Syneron Medical Ltd. Announces Result Of Clinical Study On Skin Lightening With Elure

Syneron Medical Ltd. announced the publication of results from a clinical study evaluating the skin lightening efficacy and safety of its elure Advanced Skin Lightening product (lignin peroxidase cream) compared with 2% hydroquinone cream. The study, which demonstrated significantly faster and superior skin lightening results with elure, was published in the December 2011 issue of the peer-reviewed Journal of Cosmetic Dermatology. The Journal of Cosmetic Dermatology is the official journal of The International Academy of Cosmetic Dermatology (IACD). The publication, which is titled A Randomized and Placebo-Controlled Study to Compare the Skin Lightening, Efficacy, and Safety of Lignin Peroxidase Cream Versus 2% Hydroquinone Cream. The single-center, randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled study included 51 patients, all of which were Asian women. Patients were randomized to receive day and night applications of elure Advanced Skin Lightening products on one randomly selected side of their face, and either 2% hydroquinone cream or placebo on the other side of their face.  Full Article

Syneron Medical Ltd. announced that is has signed a definitive agreement to acquire Ultrashape Ltd. (Ultrashape), a developer, manufacturer and marketer of non-invasive technologies for fat cell destruction and body sculpting. Ultrashape is the sole operating entity of Ultrashape Medical Ltd. and it owns all rights and interests in the fat cell reduction and body sculpting business. Under terms of the agreement, Syneron will acquire 100% of the outstanding shares of Ultrashape Ltd. from Ultrashape Medical Ltd. for $12.0 million in cash. The acquisition is subject to customary closing conditions and is expected to close by the end of the first quarter 2012.  Full Article

Palomar Medical Technologies, Inc. And Syneron Medical Ltd. Announces Settlement Of Patent Infringement Lawsuits

Palomar Medical Technologies, Inc. and Syneron Medical Ltd., the global aesthetic device company, announced that they have entered into a comprehensive settlement agreement ending the patent disputes between the companies on mutually agreeable terms. The comprehensive settlement agreement includes two Non-Exclusive Patent License Agreements by Palomar with Candela Corporation (acquired by Syneron in January 2010) and Syneron. Under the first Agreement, Palomar grants to Candela and Syneron a non-exclusive, worldwide, fully paid-up, irrevocable license to U.S. Patent Nos. 5,735,844 and 5,595,568 and foreign counterparts for their professional laser- and lamp-based hair removal systems. Under this Agreement, Candela and Syneron will pay Palomar $31 million by September 19, 2011. In addition, Palomar will receive a royalty-free license to certain Candela patents. Under the second Agreement, Palomar will grant to Syneron and affiliates a non-exclusive, royalty bearing, license in the United States to U.S. Patent Nos. 5,735,844 and 5,595,568 for consumer home-use lamp-based hair removal products. Syneron will pay Palomar on sales in the United States a 5.0% royalty up to an undisclosed amount of cumulative sales, then 6.5% up to the next undisclosed amount of cumulative sales, and 7.5% on all cumulative sales thereafter. In addition, Palomar will receive a royalty-free license to certain Syneron and Candela patents.  Full Article

Syneron Medical Ltd. announced that Syneron Beauty, a subsidiary of Syneron Medical Ltd., announced that it has received 510(k) clearance from the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to market the new Taenda Luxe Light Emitting Diode device to consumers (OTC). The new device is a evolution of the Taenda Regenerate, and is cleared by the FDA for over-the-counter treatment of wrinkles, rhytides and fine lines around the periorbital (around the eye) region. Syneron Beauty expects to begin commercialization of the Taenda Luxe wrinkle treatment device in the fourth quarter in the prestige retail consumer market.  Full Article
