Emc Corp, International Business Machines Corp Eye Web Hosting Company SoftLayer Technologies Inc; AT&T Inc No Longer Involved In Deal-Reuters
Reuters reported that International Business Machines Corp (IBM) and Emc Corp are among parties in talks to buy privately held database web hosting company SoftLayer Technologies Inc, in a deal that could fetch over $2 billion. Dallas, Texas-based SoftLayer has hired Morgan Stanley and Credit Suisse to run the sale process, asking not to be named because the talks are private. SoftLayer's sale process was initially spurred by one of its customers, AT&T Inc, which approached the company in recent months seeking exclusive talks. AT&T is no longer involved in the process. The two companies have committed to work collaboratively to deliver customer value through the implementation of cloud solutions. Responding to the demand for cloud-based solutions in Latin America, Capgemini and EMC will deliver a portfolio of end-to-end As-a-Service cloud offerings designed for specific vertical market segments. Lenovo Group Ltd And Emc Corp announced that they have completed the formation of LenovoEMC Ltd, the joint venture previously announced in August 2012 along with a wider strategic partnership in industry standard servers and networked storage solutions. Incorporating the core assets of EMC's Iomega business, the new JV will bring co-branded network attached storage (NAS) solutions to distributed enterprise, remote branches, and small and medium businesses. Emc Corp, VMware Inc To Merge Data And Cloud App Assets Into New Group-Reuters
Reuters reported that Emc Corp and its publicly-traded subsidiary, software maker VMware Inc, are planning to merge their data analytics and cloud application assets. The companies expect to combine a number of divisions into the new group, called the Pivotal Initiative - by the second quarter of 2013 and said the specific operational structure will be determined then. The companies will provide an update on the details of the plans in the first quarter of next year, EMC said. The move will combine EMC's data analytics division Greenplum and its Pivotal Labs group with VMware's vFabric, SpringSource and Gemstone units as well VMware's data analytics company Cetas and CloudFoundry, a cloud computing platform as a service. This will affect about 600 employees from VMware and 800 employees from EMC. Full Article
Emc Corp To Acquire Silver Tail Systems
Emc Corp announced that it has signed a definitive agreement to acquire privately-held Silver Tail Systems, company in real-time web session intelligence and behavioral analysis. Upon closing, Silver Tail will operate within the RSA security division and is expected to extend the capabilities of RSA's Identity Protection and Verification (IPV) solutions, as well as other areas across RSA's enterprise security portfolio. Guidance Software Inc And Emc Corp's RSA Collaborate On Automated Cyber Security Incident Response
Guidance Software Inc announced an interoperability partnership with RSA, the Security Division of Emc Corp, to interconnect Guidance’s EnCase Cybersecurity and the RSA enVision security information and event management (SIEM) platform to enable automated incident response and management. The integration will enable the RSA enVision platform to automatically trigger an EnCase Cybersecurity incident response, including exposing, collecting, triaging and remediating data related to threats – essentially taking action on or gathering data about a security event that might otherwise have been inappropriately disregarded. The interoperability of the two solutions will allow organizations to reduce the time it takes to remediate threats, thus reducing the high cost of response and the risk of exposing sensitive data to loss or theft. EMC reaffirms full-year forecast after first-quarter miss
