Ericsson To Acquire Microsoft Corp's Mediaroom Business
Ericsson announced that it has reached an agreement with Microsoft Corp to acquire TV solution Mediaroom business. Closing expected during the second half of 2013. Mediaroom is situated in Mountain View, California and employs more than 400 people worldwide. Mediaroom will be incorporated into Business Unit Support Solutions. Airvana Network Solutions Inc Gets Preliminary Injunction Against Ericsson in Trade-Secret Lawsuit-DJ
Dow Jones reported that judge granted Airvana Network Solutions Inc.'s request for a preliminary injunction against Ericsson in a lawsuit over trade secrets. The injunction blocks Ericsson from using certain hardware unless it uses software that Airvana developed. According to the report, Airvana alleges that Ericsson helped create knock-off hardware, while Ericsson argued that the hardware wasn't based on Airvana's designs. Samsung Electronics Co Ltd Counter Sues Ericsson In U.S. Over Alleged Patent Infringement-DJ
Dow Jones reported that Samsung Electronics Co Ltd countersued Ericsson earlier this week claiming that the mobile equipment maker infringed several of its patents including those relating to data transmission, a filing in a U.S. district court showed. The filing comes after Ericsson filed a suit against Samsung Electronics Co Ltd in November in a U.S. court alleging the South Korean company infringed its mobile-technology patents after the two companies failed to agree on licensing terms. Although Samsung is a willing licensee, Ericsson demands unreasonable terms and conditions, Samsung said in the complaint. Ericsson no doubt has plans to extract unreasonable fees from the rest of the industry unless stopped by Samsung here. Full Article
Ericsson Launches Ericsson SNP 4000 Network Processing Chipset
Ericsson announced that at the MPLS & Ethernet World Congress in Paris, the Company announced two developments that reinforce its commitment to developing 4th Generation IP networks: an in-house ASIC, the Ericsson SNP 4000 network processing chipset, and extension of the Ericsson IP Operating System as the common platform across the entire IP portfolio. The Ericsson SNP 4000 brings to the market packet processing capacity with an ASIC solution that integrates thousands of processing cores to enable products that can scale from 100Gbps to 1Tbps and applications that support millions of subscribers. With its hyper-threaded run to completion architecture running the Linux OS with full support for GNU based C/C++ tool chain, the SNP 4000 will herald a new era of feature velocity and power efficiency in IP products. Ericsson IP Operating System, that runs on the SSR 8000 family of Smart Services Routers, will be extended to cover all Ericsson IP products. The MINI-LINK SP 415 and MINI-LINK SP 420 running. Ericsson closes telecom cable manufacturing facility
STOCKHOLM, May 21 - Ericsson announced on Tuesday plans to shut its telecom cable manufacturing facility in Sweden and would take a 500 million Swedish crown ($75 million) charge as a result.
