Fomento de Construcciones y Contratas SA in Consortium with Alstom SA and Other Companies to Build Three Subway Lines in Saudi Arabia

Fomento de Construcciones y Contratas SA (FCC) announced that a consortium it leads won a contract to build three subway lines in Riyadh, the capital city of Saudi Arabia. The Company announced that EUR 16.3 billion (USD 21.6 billion) budget for the Riyadh metro is over 2.5 times the cost of the Medina-Mecca high-speed railway in the same country, which has also been constructed by a consortium involving Spanish firms. FCC's consortium won one of three parts into which the contract was divided, with a budget of EUR 6.07 billion. The subway will be the longest in the world under construction once work starts, with 176 kilometers worth of lines. The construction will create 15,000 jobs over five years. FCC's consortium also includes South Korea's Samsung Group, France's Alstom SA, Strukton, Freyssinet, Saudi Arabia, Typsa and Setec.
