Comprehensive settlement achieved on FirstEnergy Corp's Mon Power and Potomac Edison Rate Case

FirstEnergy Corp:Says its subsidiaries Mon Power and Potomac Edison today announce the filing of a settlement agreement with the Public Service Commission (PSC) of West Virginia.Says agreement was reached with the PSC staff, the state's Consumer Advocate Division, the West Virginia Energy Users Group and Wal-Mart.Settlement agreement includes recovery of expenses associated with storm repairs from 2012 Derecho and Hurricane Sandy, increased operating and environmental compliance investments at coal-fired power plants, and service reliability enhancements to distribution system.Including a more extensive tree trimming program to help limit power outages.If approved by PSC, agreement would take effect on Feb. 25, 2015, and result in recovery of about $63 mln annually.For the typical Mon Power and Potomac Edison residential customers using 1,000 kilowatt hours per month, electric bills are expected to increase from $92.62 to $99.52, or about 23 cents a day.This settlement agreement resolves the rate case that Mon Power and Potomac Edison agreed to file in the proceeding that approved the acquisition of the utilities' remaining interests in the Harrison Power Plant.Settlement agreement enables Mon Power and Potomac Edison to move the costs associated with the Harrison Power Plant transaction to base rates and captures certain additional incremental expenses.  Full Article
