Dow Jones reported that Standard & Poor's has cut France Telecom SA's long-term rating from A- to BBB+ with a stable outlook. The decision comes as a result of the impact of competition and pressure on prices in the French mobile phone market in the next two years. Vivendi SA announced that its subsidiary SFR and France Telecom SA Orange have signed an agreement with the State and the Ile-de-France (Greater Paris) region on Internet access and the rollout of fiber optics throughout the region. Dow Jones reported that KT Corp will drop its initial bid to buy Vivendi SA's controlling stake in Itissalat Al Maghrib Ste SA, in what would have been the biggest-ever cross-border deal by a South Korean company. Under the deal, Vivendi's 53% stake was valued at roughly EUR5.5 billion ($7.19 billion). French conglomerate Vivendi S.A. has been trying to shift away from the telecoms business toward focusing on media assets like U.S.-based Universal Music Group and French TV and movie giant Canal Plus. Vivendi has been auctioning off both Maroc Telecom and its Brazilian phone and broadband unit GVT. Aside from KT Corp., Ooredoo QSC, Emirates Telecommunication Corp Ltd, or Etisalat, and France Telecom SA were among a number of potential bidders that expressed preliminary interest in Maroc Telecom last year.  Full Article

Myanmar Names France Telecom SA And Other Bidders In Race For Two Mobile Licences-Reuters

Reuters reported that Myanmar has announced the names of 12 international consortia that have pre-qualified to bid for two mobile licences, moving closer to opening one of the last major untapped mobile markets. The companies include Bharti Airtel Ltd, China Mobile Ltd, KDDI CORP, MTN Group Ltd, Singapore Telecommunications Ltd, Telenor ASA and Digicel, a group backed by billionaire George Soros. The pre-qualified applicants will be required to submit their applications to the committee by June 3, 2013. The committee expects to announce the names of two winners to receive 15-year telecommunications licences by June 27, it said. China Mobile has teamed up with Vodafone Group Plc, while France Telecom SA is working with Marubeni Corporation, and Africa's MTN with M1 Telecom and Amara Communications. SingTel has joined with Myanmar Telephone Co Ltd and KBZ, while KDDI has teamed up with Japan's SUMITOMO CORP and Myanmar Information and Communication Technology Development Corp. Other pre-qualifiers are Axiata Group Bhd, Millicom International Cellular SA, Qatar Telecom QSC and Viettel Group. The bidding has attracted wide interest from international telecoms firms, which see huge opportunities in a country of 60 million where mobile penetration is just 5%-10%, compared with rates of over 100% in many developed markets.  Full Article

France Telecom SA, Deutsche Telekom AG Line Up Banks For EE Market Listing-Reuters

Reuters reported that France Telecom SA has chosen Morgan Stanley and Bank of America Merrill Lynch to advise it on a potential initial public offering (IPO) of EE. Deutsche Telekom AG is expected to hire JP Morgan for the sale, since the bank advised it in 2009 when the 50-50 joint venture (JV) with France Telecom was formed. Private equity groups, including U.S.-based KKR and Europe's CVC Capital Partners, have also been sounding out banks to raise money to mount a potential GBP9 billion to GBP10 billion ($14 billion to $15 billion) buyout of EE.  Full Article

Eutelsat Communications SA and France Telecom SA's GlobeCast Win Contract with Dutch Broadcaster NOS

Eutelsat Communications SA and GlobeCast, a subsidiary of France Telecom SA announced that they have signed a multi-year agreement with NOS, the Dutch broadcasting network, for dedicated capacity on the EUTELSAT 12 West A satellite to meet NOS's growing requirements for satellite news gathering (SNG). Reuters reported that France Telecom SA priced a EUR 750 million bond, reaching maturity on October 2, 2019. The bond pays a coupon of 1.875%. Barclays , BBVA, HSBC and SGCIB acted as Lead Managers for the issue.  Full Article

Safran SA's Morpho and France Telecom SA-Orange's Almerys Launch Mobile Identity Management System

Safran SA announced that France Telecom SA-Orange, through its healthcare services subsidiary Almerys, and Morpho (Safran) have jointly created a mobile identity management system for the healthcare sector. This healthcare data mobility solution from Orange and Morpho enables doctors to securely access patient files via a tablet or mobile device. The system uses SIM authentication to establish a link between the device’s SIM card and the physician’s identification number via the identity management platform. Once the SIM card is registered, an applet is directly loaded onto the mobile device or tablet that contains the SIM card. The doctor can then access patient files via a secure Website by entering his or her phone number. A pop-up message requesting the physician’s identification number then appears to complete the authentication process.  Full Article

France Telecom SA Announces FY 2012, FY 2013 Dividend, And FY 2013 Interim Dividend

France Telecom SA announced that taking into account the interim dividend payment of EUR 0.58 on September 12, 2012 (which is EUR 0.60 minus the additional contribution of 3% on the dividends distributed), the Board of Directors will recommend to the Annual General Meeting of Shareholders of May 28, 2013 the payment of a dividend of EUR 0.20 per share, to be paid in cash on June 11, 2013. France Telecom SA also announced payment of a minimum dividend of EUR 0.80 per share for 2013. An interim dividend payment for 2013 of EUR 0.30 per share will be paid in cash in December 2013.  Full Article

Orange beats Yoigo in race to launch 4G in Spain

MADRID, May 10 - France Telecom's Orange will launch superfast mobile Internet in Spain on July 8 in six cities, making it the first to make 4G services widely available in the country and beating rival Yoigo by a matter of days.
