Fortum Oyj Updates on Maintenance at Loviisa Nuclear Plant-Argus Media

Friday, 16 Aug 2013 12:25pm EDT

Argus Media reported that Fortum Oyj will carry out annual maintenance at two 496MW capacity units at its Loviisa nuclear power plant in Finland over the next month, with unit 1 expected to be brought offline on August 18, 2013. Unit 1 requires a new emergency diesel generator, in addition to regular maintenance and refuelling tasks. It is expected to be out of operation for at least two and a half weeks - until September 4, 2013. When maintenance at unit 1 is complete, the plant's second unit will be brought offline. Unit 2 requires Finnish transmission system operator, Fingrid, to replace equipment at the unit's switching substation. The unit is expected to return to operation by the end of September 2013. Nuclear outages in the Nordic region currently total around 3.8GW of capacity, which will rise to nearly 4.3GW when unit 1 at Loviisa is taken offline on August 18, 2013. But around 2GW worth of capacity is expected to return to operation by the end of August 2013.
