Gol Linhas Aereas Inteligentes SA and Delta Air Lines Inc Announce Codeshare Expansion
Gol Linhas Aereas Inteligentes SA and Delta Air Lines Inc announced the implementation of GOL codeshare on Delta’s flights from Brasilia to Atlanta, which is an extension of their partnership. GOL will now sell Delta’s international tickets through its sales channels – website, Voe GOL stores, call centers and travel agencies. Over the next months other markets will be included in the codeshare including all Delta flights between Brazil and the United States, as well as key connecting markets operated by Delta. The codeshare agreement implementation also provides corporate clients with a single contract to facilitate negotiations in all destinations operated by the airlines. Furthermore, the companies will share commercial and promotional activities. The route from Brasilia to Atlanta is already available to be acquired at Gol channels and the first flight will take place on May 20, 2013. The second phase will include flights from Goiania, Belo Horizonte, Curitiba and Porto Alegre all via Brasilia to Atlanta. Gol Linhas Aereas Inteligentes SA announced that SMILES, its subsidiary that manages the Smiles Program, has formed partnerships with two major retail chains, Polishop and Cybelar. The miles accumulated in SMILES can be redeemed for air tickets, called prize tickets, for flights throughout Brazil, Latin America and the Caribbean and to the five continents through GOL's partner airlines. With the new purchasing platform, SMILES Shopping, it is also possible to redeem items such as electronic equipment, tickets for shows, home appliances, furniture, toys, household items and perfumery, among others. Dow Jones reported that Gol Linhas Aereas Inteligentes SA in a regulatory filing on February 27, 2013, formally registered its intention to hold an initial public offering of shares for its frequent-flyer unit, known as Smiles. Company executives previously had signaled in informal comments their intention to hold an IPO for Smiles. In its filing February 27, 2013, Gol said it hopes to list the shares on the Novo Mercado segment of the Brazilian Stock Exchange. Gol Linhas Aereas Inteligentes SA Starts Winding up Webjet's Activities; Lays off 850 Employees of Webjet
Gol Linhas Aereas Inteligentes SA (Gol) announced that, as of November 23, 2012, it will begin the process of winding up the activities of its subsidiary Webjet and the discontinuation of its brand. The first step is to extinguish flight operations. Webjet has an operational model based on a fleet that mostly consists of aging Boeing 737-300 aircraft that are advanced age, technologically out of date and consume a lot of fuel and is no longer competitive. As a result of the winding up of operations, around 850 employees, including flight and cabin crew and maintenance personnel, will be laid off. Webjet's clients and passengers will be fully served by Gol and their flights will be guaranteed. As of November 23, 2012, Gol will be responsible for all air transport and associated services for these passengers. In this context, all the necessary measures are been taken. Full Article
