Grifols SA’s Study Demonstrates Higher Dose Of PROLASTIN-C Increases Levels Of Alpha1-PI To Within Normal Range In Patients With AAT Deficiency-DJ
Dow Jones reported that Grifols SA presented results from a study demonstrating that a higher dose of PROLASTIN(c) -C (Alpha(1)-Proteinase Inhibitor [Human]) increased levels of the alpha(1) protein in patients with alpha(1) antitrypsin ( AAT) deficiency to levels that are considered within the normal range for healthy individuals. AAT deficiency is a life-threatening, genetic condition in which low levels of the alpha(1) proteinase inhibitor (A1PI) protein can lead to emphysema. The results of the PROLASTIN-C SPARK study, a multidose pharmacokinetic clinical trial, were presented at the annual meeting of the American Thoracic Society (ATS) on May 21, 2013. Data from the study showed that weekly infusions of PROLASTIN-C at 120 mg/kg increased serum concentrations of the A1PI protein to proportionately higher levels than weekly infusions of 60 mg/kg, the currently approved dose of PROLASTIN-C. Furthermore, the 120 mg/kg dose raised serum concentrations of A1PI to the range of 20-53 micromolar, considered to be normal for healthy individuals. Both doses were safe and well tolerated in subjects with AAT deficiency. Full Article
Grifols SA Signs Deal To License Aradigm Corp's Pulmaquin; May Buy 35% Stake In Aradigm Corp-Reuters
Reuters reported that Grifols SA said it has signed an exclusive contract to license Aradigm Corp's Pulmaquin compound and may take a stake in the California-based firm. Pulmaquin is a dual release ciprofloxacin for inhalation in non-cystic fibrosis bronchiectasis. In a regulatory filing, Grifols SA said it will invest up to USD 65 million to help develop the compound and may spend USD 25.7 million to buy a 35% stake in Aradigm Corp through a capital hike at the United States firm. Grifols SA Announces Share Repurchase
Grifols SA announced that on March 11, 2013 it proceeded with the repurchase of its 4,402,986 American Depositary Shares (ADSs) from various funds managed by Cerberus Capital Management LP and its affiliated advisory companies at a purchase price of USD 118,880,622, which represents a value of USD 27 per ADS. The Company aims to hold the ADSs in treasury to use them in the future in possible corporate operations. Grifols SA announced that at the Extraordinary Shareholders’ Meeting held on December 4, 2012, the Company’s shareholders agreed on the share capital increase in the amount of EUR 1,632,821.20 by the issuance of 16,328,212 new class B shares at the nominal value of EUR 0.10 per share, in the proportion of one new class B share for each class A or class B 20 shares held.
