Honda Motor Co Ltd:The brother of a Texas teenager killed by shrapnel from an exploding Takata Corp air bag said on Thursday that his family never received a recall notice about the defective vehicle safety device. - RTRS.The brother's comments came as federal safety regulators called current methods of alerting consumers about vehicle safety recalls inadequate.They also contradicted a statement from Honda Motor Co that said notices to replace the air bag were sent to the owners of the 2002 Honda Civic involved in the accident in which Huma Hanif, a high school senior, was killed.Hanif's death was the 10th in the United States linked to defective air bags made by Takata.Automakers have repaired or replaced about a quarter of the estimated 29 million defective Takata air bags recalled, according to the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).Hanif, of Richmond, Texas, died on March 31 after the 14-year-old Civic she was driving hit the rear of another vehicle at an intersection, causing the air bag to deploy.Texas officials released new details about the accident on Thursday. Fort Bend County Sheriff Troy E. Nehls and other officials told a news conference that Hanif, 17, should have survived the relatively minor accident that crumpled the car's hood.However, an autopsy showed that her jugular vein and carotid artery were cut by metal shrapnel from the air bag's inflator.  Full Article

Honda Motor Co Ltd:A unit of Omron Corp has agreed to plead guilty and pay $4.6 million for conspiring to rig bids on power window switches installed in Honda Civics 7267.T sold in the U.S., the Department of Justice said on Thursday. - RTRS.Omron Automotive Electronics Co. Honda Motor Co Ltd:Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India (HMSI) has suspended close to 100 workers at its Tapukara factory in Rajasthan's Alwar district, alleging their involvement in the February 16 incidents of damage and disturbance - Business Standard.Many workers had gone on a strike that day, something the company says was illegal. HMSI, part of Japanese auto major Honda, is the country’s second largest two-wheeler player.“Close to 100 workers who were found to be involved directly in sabotage were given the suspension letters”, HMSI said in an e-mail.Another 60 workers were also sent warning letters, directing them to report for duty or face consequences.The high court in Jaipur granted bail on Tuesday to 39 of the 44 Tapukara workers who were arrested for alleged involvement in the February 16 happenings.The letter blames some workers for inciting others, hampering production, taking control of and damaging equipment, and intimidating executives.It said the presence of these workers was not in the interest of the company. The period of suspension is not mentioned.The warning letter accuses workers of being involved in an illegal strike and creating an atmosphere of indiscipline.And, that despite five separate directions to join work, these workers have stayed away.
