Fuji Sankei Business reported that Hitachi, Ltd. entered into an order contract with Management Authority for Urban Railways of the People's Committee of Ho Chi Minh City for the construction of Vietnam's first urban railway in Ho Chi Minh City (between Ben Thanh - Suoi Tien "Line 1"). Hitachi Ltd to Establish Joint Venture with Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Ltd

Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Ltd announced that it has signed a contract with Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Ltd to integrate their thermal power system business, including thermal power generation, geothermal power generation, environment equipment business, fuel battery business and other related businesses. The two companies will establish a joint venture to operate the integrated businesses. Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Ltd and Hitachi Ltd will hold a 65% stake and a 35% stake in the joint venture respectively. The business integration will take effective January 1, 2014.  Full Article

Dow Jones reported that Hitachi Ltd and Tokyo Electric Power Co Inc will cooperate in exporting an electric-power system by jointly establishing a consulting firm for electricity transmission and distribution Monday, according to Kyodo News. By providing technologies and management know-how to overseas power companies through the joint firm, the two companies aim to receive more orders for power generation equipment, Kyodo reported.  Full Article

Hyflux Ltd's Hyflux Utility (India) Pvt Ltd And Hitachi Ltd Special Purpose Company Announces Water Purchase Agreement To Deliver Desalinated Water To Dahej Special Economic Zone

Hyflux Ltd announced that the water purchase agreement (WPA) to deliver desalinated water to the Dahej Special Economic Zone (Dahej SEZ) in Gujarat, India has been finalised and signed with Dahej SEZ Limited (DSL). The WPA between DSL and Swarnim DahejSpring Desalination Pvt Ltd (DahejSpring) will become effective once financial close for the desalination project is achieved. DahejSpring is the special purpose company formed by consortium members Hitachi Ltd and Hyflux Utility (India) Pvt Ltd, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Hyflux, for the development of the seawater desalination project in the Dahej SEZ. The WPA will be for a term of 30 years, including an estimated three-year construction period. DSL is committed to purchase 100% of the water on a take or pay basis. The signing of the WPA followed the formalisation of the Co-Developer Agreement between DSL and DahejSpring last March. The desalination project, which will have a 336,000m3 per day capacity, will employ ultrafiltration pre-treatment and reverse osmosis membrane technologies to treat the seawater into water suitable for industrial use. The total project cost is estimated at USD600 million and will be funded through a combination of equity and non-recourse project finance. The consortium is currently in discussion with financial institutions to provide non-recourse financing for the project. Hyflux is expected to undertake an estimated USD420 million worth of the project value.  Full Article

Hitachi Ltd and Hitachi Plant Technologies Initiate Joint Research with King Abdulaziz University

Hitachi Ltd and Hitachi Plant Technologies Ltd announced that it has signed an agreement with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia's King Abdulaziz University (KAU) (President, Prof. Osama S. Tayek) for joint research on water quality monitoring technology to be used in seawater desalination facilities. The joint research will focus on the demonstration and validation, evaluation, and improvement of water quality monitoring technology developed at Hitachi's Yokohama Research Laboratory (Yokohama, Kanagawa, Japan) that will be used in Hitachi Plant Technologies' seawater desalination plant. This work will be conducted over a nearly two-year period in cooperation with KAU's Center of Excellence in Desalination Technology (CEDT).  Full Article

Hitachi gets $373 million Vietnam railway order

TOKYO, June 11 - Hitachi Ltd has received an order to build Vietnam's first urban railway in Ho Chi Minh city for 37 billion yen ($373.2 million), the Japanese infrastructure company said on Tuesday.
