Lions Gate Entertainment Corp and Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd., are partnering to expand the availability of popular theatrical titles in 3D for the home entertainment market. Utilizing Samsung's 3D image processing technology, the two companies will kick off the partnership by delivering new 3D versions of the Lionsgate action films GAMER, CRANK, and BANGKOK DANGEROUS as well as the horror/thriller hit THE DESCENT. In addition to these films, a number of other theatrical titles are in the pipeline for 3D conversion and release. Youku Inc And Lions Gate Entertainment Corp. Sign Deal For Feature Films

Youku Inc announced that it has signed a licensing agreement with Lionsgate, a diversified global entertainment company. The deal was arranged through Celestial Tiger Entertainment, the exclusive sales agent for Lionsgate in Greater China and Southeast Asia. The agreement grants Youku the right to make 200 Lionsgate titles, including Hotel Rwanda, Monster's Ball, and Mr. Magorium's Wonder Emporium, available to users on an ad-supported basis via Youku's Movies Channel. Youku's Movies Channel is a curated front-end to Youku's free and premium film content, and offers content owners a range of options for making their work available to viewers. In addition to choosing to set a price for their content, content owners can opt to allow their content to become freely available after a set period. Eleven of the 18 films with Chinese box office revenues of more than RMB 100 million in 2011 are available on Youku's Movies Channel.  Full Article

Lions Gate Entertainment Corp. And Alliance Films Announces Sale Of Lionsgate's Canadian Distributor, Maple Pictures, To Alliance Films

Lions Gate Entertainment Corp. and Alliance Films announced that the Alliance group has agreed to purchase Lionsgate's Canadian distributor Maple Pictures for approximately $38.5 million subject to a working capital adjustment. The Alliance group will acquire Maple and its film library and will assume responsibility for Maple's exclusive five year output deal with Lionsgate for Canadian distribution of Lionsgate's motion picture and television product and Maple's exclusive long-term arrangement for distribution of Lionsgate's prestigious filmed entertainment library in Canada.  Full Article
