Malaysian Airline System Bhd Places Firm Orders To Buy 20 Turboprop ATR Planes-DJ
Dow Jones reported that Malaysian Airline System Bhd has ordered 20 ATR turboprops with an option to buy another 16. The deal is worth about 3 billion ringgit ($968.3 million). The French-Italian ATR 72-600s will expand the national carrier's network and flight frequency at low-cost offshoot Firefly and MASwings. MASwings mainly flies to Sarawak and Sabah. Firefly operates 12 ATR 72-500 now and MASwings 10. The first aircraft arrive in June and the rest until November 2017. If it pick ups the option deliveries will continue until August 2020.
