Monsanto Co reaffirmed fiscal 2013 guidance and expects earnings per share (EPS) in the range of $4.50-$4.55 on an ongoing basis, with mid-teens ongoing earnings growth anticipated for fiscal 2014. The Company expects fiscal 2013 earnings per share on an as-reported basis to be in the range of $4.54-$4.59. U.S. Farmer Files Lawsuit Against Monsanto Co Over GMO Wheat-Reuters

Reuters reported that American wheat farmers and a food safety advocacy group filed a lawsuit against biotech seed developer Monsanto Co, accusing the Company of failing to protect the U.S. wheat market from contamination by its unauthorized wheat. The petition, filed in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Washington, seeks class-action status to represent other farmers it says were harmed by lower wheat prices as some foreign buyers have shied away from U.S. wheat. It names Clarmar Farms Inc farmer Tom Stahl, and the Center for Food Safety as plaintiffs.  Full Article

Monsanto Co Raises FY 2013 EPS Guidance; Issues Q3 2013 EPS Guidance Below Analysts' Estimates; Comments On Q4 2013 Earnings Guidance

Monsanto Co raised it fiscal 2013 earnings per share (EPS) guidance and expects EPS to the range of $4.50 to $4.55 on an ongoing basis and $4.52 to $4.57 on an as-reported basis. For third quarter of 2013, it expects earnings per share (EPS) in the range of $1.55 to $1.60 and a smaller year-over-year fourth-quarter of 2014 loss. The improvement in the fourth quarter of 2013 reflects the expected continued contribution from Agricultural Productivity and the Company's global corn business, driven by the acceleration and mix benefit in the Company's growing Latin American corn business. According to I/B/E/S Estimates, analysts on an average are expecting the Company to report EPS of $1.69 for third quarter of 2013.  Full Article

Indiana Farmer Loses Fight Over Monsanto Co Seed Patent-DJ

Dow Jones reported that the Supreme Court afforded broad patent protection to genetically engineered seeds Monday, siding with Monsanto Co. in its dispute with an Indiana farmer. The court unanimously found that farmer Vernon Bowman violated Monsanto's patent on herbicide-resistant soybean seeds by using them to grow successive generations of similarly endowed crops, rather than consuming or selling the seeds. Still, the court stressed its ruling was limited to seeds. A decision potentially more significant, on whether human genes may be patented, is pending and expected by the end of June.  Full Article

Bayer AG And Monsanto Co. Enter Into Licensing Agreement-DJ

Dow Jones reported that Bayer AG said its CropScience unit and Monsanto Co. have entered into a series of licensing agreements for next-generation and enabling technologies in plant biotechnology. Monsanto Co. will provide Bayer AG’s CropScience with a royalty-bearing license to technology in some soybeans in the United States and Canada. CropScience will also receive a royalty-bearing license regarding soybeans in Brazil with an option to a royalty-bearing license in other Latin-American countries in the future. CropScience has also been granted stacking-rights under certain conditions and it will grant Monsanto Co. licenses to evaluate enabling technologies for corn rootworm control and herbicide tolerance. E. I. du Pont de Nemours and Co, Monsanto Co Strike $1.75 Billion Licensing Deal, End Lawsuits-Reuters

Reuters reported that will pay E. I. du Pont de Nemours and Co will pay Monsanto Co at least $1.75 billion in a new licensing deal and both companies have agreed to dissolve their bitter legal battles over rights to technology for genetically modified seeds, the companies said. The companies agreed to drop antitrust and patent claims against each other while forging the new collaboration, and agreed to toss out a $1 billion jury verdict DuPont was ordered to pay Monsanto last August. Separately, DuPont will make at least $1.75 billion in royalty payments over several years in exchange for broad access to Monsanto's genetic technology for the development of new agricultural seed products.  Full Article

Monsanto Co and Grower Associations Announce Agreement That Supports Introduction Of Future Soybean Technologies For Brazil

Monsanto Co announced that they have reached an agreement that will support the introduction of products like INTACTA RR2 PRO soybeans. The agreement represents an important next step towards the commercial introduction of INTACTA RR2 PRO soybeans in the Country. It demonstrates support by the Agriculture and Livestock Confederation of Brazil (CNA), a national grower organization, as well as ten state agriculture federations in the soybean-production regions of Brazil. The agreement recognizes the important role of technology providers that invest in new technologies for farmers as well as for a value collection system that ensures technology providers are duly compensated for technology each time it is used on farm. Under the agreement, participating Brazilian farmers will secure a new license that will allow them to purchase soybeans containing the new INTACTA RR2 PRO technology, expected to be available in the 2013-2014 growing season. The agreement also underscores the grower associations' support for continuing a royalty collection approach, which ensures that growers pay royalties each time they use the technology.  Full Article
