Maruti Suzuki India Ltd's Plant Still Occupied By Striking Workers-WSJ

Tuesday, 11 Oct 2011 04:00am EDT

The Wall Street Journal reported that Maruti Suzuki India Ltd's factory at Manesar in the northern state of Haryana continued to remain idle as about 1,500 workers are still laying siege to the facility. Production at the auto maker's factory at Gurgaon, also in Haryana, has declined to 1,000 cars on Tuesday, from 1,800 cars on Monday and compared with a normal daily production of 2,800 cars. Production has been hit at Gurgaon due to lower supply of diesel engines and transmissions from Suzuki Powertrain India Ltd., where the workers have struck work in solidarity with their peers at Maruti. The strike at Maruti Suzuki began on Friday after regular workers at its Manesar factory demanded the reinstatement of 44 suspended colleagues who weren't taken back after a 33-day impasse with the management ended October 1.
