Telefonica Brasil SA, America Movil SAB de CV, Telecom Italia SpA and Oi SA Win 4G Mobile Licenses in Brazil-Reuters
Reuters reported that Telefonica Brasil SA’s Vivo, America Movil SAB de CV’s Claro, Telecom Italia SpA’s TIM and Oi SA’s Oi have secured new licenses from the Brazil National Telecommunications Agency (Anatel) to launch fourth generation (4G) services in some of Brazil's major cities in time for the Confederations Cup Soccer Tournament that will be held in 2014. The licenses comprise four sub blocks within a 2.5 gigahertz range, as well as the provision of mobile telephony services in the rural areas within the frequency of 450 megahertz. Vivo won one of the licenses with a bid of BRL 1,050 million; Claro paid BRL 844 million; TIM bought one of the four nationwide licenses on offer at a value BRL 340 million, and Oi offered BRL 330.85 million. Oi SA Announces FY 2011 Dividend Payment
Oi SA, former Brasil Telecom SA, announced that, on Ordinary General Meeting held on April 30, 2012, it will start dividend payment for fiscal year 2011 at the total value of BRL 2,000,000,000, corresponding to BRL 1.22 per ordinary and preferred share. Oi SA Announces Dividend Policy for Period between 2012 and 2015
Oi SA, former Brasil Telecom SA, announced its dividend policy for the period of 2012 to 2015 (in regards to the results for the years ended December 31, 2011 to 2014). The approved Compensation Policy consists of the payment of a total amount of BRL 8.00 billion observing the following schedule: BRL 2.00 billion to be declared at the Ordinary General Shareholders’ Meeting that decides on the financial statements for the year ended December 31, 2011; BRL 1.00 billion in August 2012, BRL 1.00 billion in August 2013 and BRL 1.00 billion in August 2014; and BRL 1.00 billion at each of the Ordinary General Shareholders’ Meetings that decide on the financial statements for the years ended December 31, 2012, 2013 and 2014, in addition to the dividends paid in August of each year. This Policy will be subject to market conditions, the financial stability of the Company and the applicable legal and regulatory environments. It may be implemented through the distribution of dividends, the payment of interest on equity, bonuses, redemption, the reduction of capital or, furthermore, under other forms that enable the distribution of funds to shareholders, each year observing the maximum threshold corresponding to three times Net Debt (including compensation to be paid in the same year) / EBITDA (earned in the year prior tothe payment of compensation). Portugal Telecom SGPS SA Announces Stake in Oi SA after Corporate Reorganization
Portugal Telecom SGPS SA (PT) announced that Oi SA’s (Oi) corporate simplification was successfully concluded having integrated the corporate structure constituted by Tele Norte Leste Participacoes SA (TNE), Telemar Norte Leste SA (TMAR) and Brasil Telecom SA (BRT) in BRT, which was renamed Oi SA (Oi). The new company has only two share classes (common shares, ON, and preferred shares, PN). The new shares will be traded on the Brazilian Stock Exchange (Bovespa) and on the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE), through the ADR program, as of April 9, 2012. PT’s total economic position in Oi, direct and indirect, is 23.26%. PT holds a direct stake in Oi of 15.55%. The total consideration spent by Oi in connection with the withdrawal rights at TNE, share class TNLP3, and at TMAR, share classes TMAR3, TMAR5 and TMAR6, amounted to BRL 2.0 billion. Full Article
Brazil's Oi sees $500 mln in cash from selling tower rights
SAO PAULO, April 30 - Brazilian telecom Oi SA expects to get about 1 billion reais ($500 million) in cash in coming months from the sale of rights to the use of its towers, Chief Financial Officer Alex Zornig told analysts on a Tuesday conference call.
