European Regulators Fine Koninklijke Philips Electronics NV, Samsung SDI Co. Ltd. and Panasonic Corp. for TV, Monitor-Tubes Cartel-DJ

Wednesday, 5 Dec 2012 09:53am EST

Dow Jones News Service reported that Koninklijke Philips Electronics NV, Samsung SDI Co. Ltd. and Panasonic Corp. were among seven companies fined a EUR 1.47 billion (USD 1.92 billion) by European regulators as of December 5, 2012 for operating price-fixing cartels in TV and computer parts. The firms were found guilty of involvement in one or two separate cartels set up to fix the market for cathode ray tubes, the component in color television and computer screens but defunct as a result of the advent of plasma and LCD screens. The cartels began in 1996 and ended 10 years later. The European Union and other antitrust regulators have been investigating the issue for the past three years.
