Qantas Airways Ltd : Qantas Group capacity (available seat kilometres) increased by 3.7 per cent and group demand (revenue passenger kilometres) increased by 6.4 per cent in April . April group revenue seat factor of 79.4 per cent which was 2.1 percentage points higher than in the prior corresponding period . Qantas Airways Ltd:Europe's second highest court backed on Wednesday a challenge by Air France-KLM AIRF.PA and other airlines against a near 800 million-euro ($873.9 million) cartel fine handed down to the group five years ago for fixing prices of air cargo - RTRS."The General Court annulled the decision by which the Commission imposed fines amounting to approximately 790 million euros on several airlines for their participation in a cartel on the air freight market," the General Court said in its ruling. - RTRS.The European Commission in its 2010 decision said that 11 air cargo carriers fixed surcharges for fuel and security from December 1999 to February 2006. - RTRS.The other carriers were Air Canada, KLM, Martinair, British Airways, Cargolux, Cathay Pacific Airways, Japan Airlines, LAN Chile, Qantas, SAS and Singapore Airlines - RTRS.Lufthansa LHAG.DE escaped a sanction because it blew the whistle on the cartel. - RTRS.Air France took the biggest hit with a fine of 182.9 milion euros while KLM came in second at 127.2 million euros. Qantas Airways Limited:BMW and Bosch said on Jan. 31 they would join Deutsche Bahn in two claims for about 2.1 bln euros ($2.4 bln) in damages from air freight carriers who were involved in a cartel - Reuters.The air cargo cartel, which included Lufthansa and British Airways, was first discovered seven years ago and triggered fines in the European Union and in the United States.Confirming a report in German magazine WirtschaftsWoche, spokespeople for BMW and Bosch said the companies had joined the lawsuits, announced by Deutsche Bahn in December.The magazine also reported that Continental, Kuehne + Nagel and Panalpina were seeking damages from the cartel members.Deutsche Bahn says its freight business Schenker was overcharged for air cargo services for more than six years as carriers colluded in setting fuel and security surcharges.The firm is seeking 1.2 bln euros in damages plus 560 mln euros in interest in a suit filed with a court in Cologne, plus another $370 mln in the United States.The airlines it is suing in Germany are Lufthansa, Air Canada, British Airways, Cargolux, Cathay Pacific, Japan Airlines, LAN, Qantas, SAS and Singapore Airlines.In the United States, it is seeking damages from Air France, All Nippon Airways, Cargolux, KLM, Martinair, Qantas and SAS.  Full Article
