Qualcomm Inc Declares Quarterly Cash Dividend
Qualcomm Inc announced that its new quarterly cash dividend of $0.35 per common share will be payable on June 26, 2013, to stockholders of record at the close of business on June 5, 2013. Reuters reported that talks on an alliance between Sharp Corp and Hon Hai Precision Ind. Co Ltd will continue even though a deadline for a deal between the two lapsed on Tuesday. Hon Hai said it remained committed to buy a 9.9% stake in Sharp. The banks, which include Mizuho Financial Group Inc and Mitsubishi UFJ Financial Group Inc had not been expecting a revised deal with Hon Hai. Sharp Corp To Miss March 29 Deadline For Qualcomm Inc Investment-Reuters
Reuters reported that Sharp Corp will miss a March 29 deadline to receive the second half of a $120 million investment from Qualcomm Inc after it failed to complete a plan to begin fabricating power-saving screens the two companies are jointly developing. Qualcomm, which paid half the $120 million in December, set conditions for the remainder that included having completed the specifications for the smartphone and tablet PC screens and preparations for their production. Qualcomm Inc Increases Quarterly Dividend By 40% and Announces New $5.0 Billion Stock Repurchase Program
Qualcomm Inc announced that its Board of Directors has approved a 40% increase in the Company's quarterly cash dividend and, effective immediately, a new $5.0 billion stock repurchase program to replace the prior $4.0 billion stock repurchase program, which had $2.5 billion of repurchase authority remaining. The cash dividend will increase from $0.25 to $0.35 per share of common stock and will be effective for quarterly dividends payable after March 27, 2013. Qualcomm Inc announced that a United States District Judge has ordered Gabriel Technologies Incorporated to pay more than USD12,400,000 in attorneys' fees for pursuing objectively baseless claims against Qualcomm in bad faith. The complaint, filed in October 2008, asserted eleven causes of action against Qualcomm and focused on allegations that Gabriel had ownership rights to numerous Qualcomm patents relating to GPS technologies; Gabriel sought one billion dollars in damages. Qualcomm is represented by Cooley LLP. The case is Gabriel Technologies Incorporated and Trace Technologies v. Qualcomm Inc Announces Management Change
Qualcomm Inc announced that William (Bill) Keitel has decided to retire as Qualcomm Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer. George S. Davis, currently executive vice president and chief financial officer of Applied Materials, Inc., will replace Mr. Keitel effective March 11, 2013. Keitel will continue as chief financial officer until that time, and will then assist with the transition and serve as special advisor to the CEO for the remainder of the calendar year.
