Royal Dutch Shell PLC's Shell Nigeria Sentenced To Pay Compensation In One of Five Nigeria Oil Spill Claims-DJ
Dow Jones reported that a Netherlands court on Tuesday sentenced Royal Dutch Shell PLC's subsidiary Shell Nigeria to pay damages in one of five cases against the company over claims by an environmental group and four farmers that oil spills from Shell pipelines in Nigeria have damaged their livelihood. The suit has been brought by environmental group Friends of the Earth Netherlands and four Nigerian farmers, who are seeking compensation over the claims. The court dismissed all claims in the other four cases saying that the spills weren't caused by poor maintenance by Shell, but by sabotage from third parties.
