Royal Dutch Shell PLC:Says face-to-face negotiations on Feb. 20 with the United Steelworkers union (USW) failed to yield an agreement to end the 20-day-old U.S. refinery strike - Reuters.Workers at several refineries and chemical plants were waiting for instructions to join the more than 5,000 workers at 11 plants, including nine refineries accounting for 13 pct of U.S. production capacity.Rumors about a tentative deal between the USW and Shell Oil, which is the U.S. arm of Royal Dutch Shell Plc, were being swapped through text messages, emails and phone calls among oil industry insiders throughout the night.Union negotiators rejected the seventh contract offer from Shell on Feb. 19.  Full Article

Royal Dutch Shell PLC:Shell negotiators met with the union representing workers at U.S. refineries as a strike stretches into a third day after talks on a new national contract broke down - Reuters.No progress was made toward a new agreement after the two sides discussed the issues.Walkouts called on Feb. 1 at nine plants with a combined 10 pct of U.S. refining capacity would cover 63 refineries.Contract talks broke down on Feb. 1 with workers asking for higher wages against a backdrop of crude prices that have plunged nearly 60 pct since June, prompting oil companies to cut spending.Most affected refineries were running almost as usual, with operators having called on trained managers to replace workers.The United Steelworkers union (USW) has said Shell, the lead industry negotiator, halted negotiations early Feb. 1 after the union rejected a fifth proposal from the company.The union is seeking annual pay increases of 6 pct, double the size of those in the last agreement.It also wants work that has been given in the past to non-union contractors to start going to USW members, a tighter policy to prevent workplace fatigue and reductions in members' out-of-pocket payments for healthcare.  Full Article

Royal Dutch Shell PLC to pay out $83 mln to settle Nigeria oil spill claims-Reuters

Royal Dutch Shell PLC:Will pay out 55 mln pounds ($83.4 mln) in compensation for two oil spills in Nigeria in 2008 after agreeing a settlement with the affected community-Reuters.The payment will be split, with 35 mln pounds shared evenly between 15,600 Bodo individuals and the remaining 20 mln pounds set aside in a trust fund for projects such as health clinics and schools.The individuals will each receive about 2,200 pounds, equivalent to a little more than 600,000 naira ($3,249).Claimants said that the two pipeline spills resulted in the leakage of 500,000 barrels of oil, with Shell initially estimating the volume at about 4,000 barrels.Subsequently accepted that the total may have been higher, though it did not provide a final figure.  Full Article

Royal Dutch Shell PLC:Shell has signed agreement with ST1 for the sale of its retail, commercial fuels and supply and distribution logistics businesses in Norway.In addition, Shell's aviation business in Norway will become 50-50 joint venture with ST1.The sale is subject to regulatory approval and is expected to be completed in 2015.Transaction includes Retail Brand Licence Agreement which will ensure that Shell's brand remains highly visible in Norway and that high-quality Shell fuels and lubricants products, and euroShell loyalty card scheme, will continue to be available to customers in country.Deal will have no impact on Shell's other businesses in Norway - Shell Energy Europe (SEE), Gasnor and Upstream, and Shell lubricants will continue to be sold via macro distributor.  Full Article
