Friday, 30 Nov 2012 04:31am EST

Interfax reported that Rossiyskiye zheleznye dorogi OAO (OJSC Russian Railways; RZD) will ask the government for an additional RUB 50 billion to implement infrastructure projects in Siberia and the Far East in 2013-2014, Senior Vice President of RZD Valery Reshetnikov said during parliamentary hearings on November 30, 2012. "In order to solve the problem with railroad infrastructure in Siberia and the Far East, it would be advisable to allocate state support, since these projects are commercially not recoverable for RZD," he said. "In connection with this, RZD is asking the government to allocate 50 billion rubles in funds in 2013-2014, which will allow them to be used to finance several priority projects," Reshetnikov said. In particular, the Company wants to develop railroad infrastructure on the eastern portion of the Baikal-Amur Mainline (BAM), on which it will spend RUB 39.8 billion. The development of the Chita-Arkhara section, which will involve strengthening power supply devices and extending station tracks, will require RUB 3.5 billion. Another 6.6 billion rubles will be channeled towards developing the Baranovsk-Khasan section.
