Southern Co's Southern Power To Help Meet Cobb EMC Members' Energy Needs
Southern Power, a Southern Co's subsidiary, announced that it has been selected to supply Cobb Electric Membership Corporation (EMC) electricity to supplement its current generation resources for a seven-year period beginning in 2016. The power purchase agreement - which calls for the sale of at least 325 megawatts annually - is the first such contract between Southern Power and Marietta, Ga.-based Cobb EMC. The power purchase agreement resulted from a request for proposals issued by Cobb EMC in late 2011. Southern Power will supply Cobb EMC electricity generated using the Company's existing resources. Southern Company And Ted Turner Acquire Second Solar Photovoltaic Power Project From MEMC Electronic Materials 's SunEdison
Southern Company and Turner Renewable Energy founder Ted Turner announced that the companies have acquired and will bring on line a 20 megawatt solar photovoltaic power plant in Nevada. The Apex Solar Project was acquired from and was built by SunEdison, a global provider of solar energy services and a subsidiary of MEMC Electronic Materials. Turner, an internationally renowned philanthropist and environmentalist, teamed with Southern Company in January 2010 to form a strategic alliance to pursue development of renewable energy projects in the United States. Southern Company and Turner are focusing on developing and investing in solar photovoltaic projects in the Southwest, where solar resources are in demand. The partnership's first project was acquisition and development of the 30-megawatt Cimarron Solar Facility on land adjacent to Turner's Vermejo Park Ranch near Raton, N.M. HOUSTON, April 24 - More high-quality pipe and more workers are needed to complete Southern Co's coal-gasification plant in Kemper County, Mississippi, by a 2014 deadline, company executives said on Wednesday.
