Stroytransgaz OAO Builds First Compressor Station in Greece-Interfax

Interfax reported that Stroytransgaz OAO Stroytransgaz OAO (OJSC Stroytransgaz), which heads a consortium with Greece's Prometheus Gas S.A., has completed the construction of the Nea Mesimvria compressor station in Greece, the Company said on December 20, 2012. Nea Mesimvria was built along the Kulata-Athens gas pipeline near the city of Salonika. This the first and so far sole compressor station in Greece. The facility is posted with two Solar turbo-compressors each with 7,688 MW capacity. A third unit will be set up in future.The compressor station is now connected to the gas transport system and started joint test operations on December 17, which will last three months. After this, the facility will be transferred to the client for further operations. The compressor station was designed so that it can deliver Russian natural gas to Greek consumers. The gas is received from Bulgaria through the Blue Stream Pipeline from Turkey. The operator of the Greek gas transportation system is DESFA S.A. The construction of the NEA Mesimvria facility was set out in an intergovernmental agreement between Russia and Greece signed in December 1994. The agreement for forming a consortium for the implementation of the project under EPC terms (design, delivery and construction) was signed by Stroytransgaz in 2008. During the construction work, the Company supported design, delivery, construction, setup and alignment of machinery at the site.
