Antitrust Says Telecom Italia SpA Hampers Competition-La Stampa

Wednesday, 12 Dec 2012 07:00pm EST

La Stampa reported that the Italian antitrust authority has ruled that Telecom Italia SpA created obstacles to its rivals on the retail market and violated the competition regulations. As a result of an inquiry launched in 2010 after the reports of rivals Fastweb and Wind, the watchdog ruled that Telecom Italia SpA hampered market competition referring to the high number of refusals to activate wholesale services requested by its rivals in order to provide services to end customers. According to the authority, Telecom Italia SpA applied retail service prices to the fixed-line network impeding an efficient competition. Between 2009 and 2011, Telecom Italia SpA had an unjustified number of refusals to activate wholesale services that represents a grave violation of the regulations that safeguard competition, the authority said. Some five million refusals were registered in the period out of between 10 million and 15 million requests.
