TeliaSonera AB announced that it cooperates with investigations regarding its investment in telecom operator business in Uzbekistan. Two of its employees have been heard, as representatives of the Company, and served with indictments in conjunction with preliminary investigation. The individuals and TeliaSonera deny allegations. Documentation was made public which Prosecutor submitted to Court of Appeals. Documentation includes copies of email correspondence in spring 2007 from Serkan Elden, former CEO of Fintur Holdings (majority-owned subsidiary of TeliaSonera within Business area Eurasia), to employees in Fintur Holdings and TeliaSonera, in which Gulnara Karimova is mentioned as local partner in Uzbekistan. The negotiations regarding the investment were led by Serkan Elden, who from January 1, 2007 to June 15, 2007 was CEO of Fintur Holdings. In 2007 Tero Kivisaari was appointed Head of the business area Eurasia on May 1, 2007. In June 2007 Mr. Elden was dismissed due to lack of trust and Mr. Kivisaari took over responsibility for negotiations. The local partner was represented by Bekhzod Akhmedov, who was also Managing Director of the Uzbek operator, owned by Russian MTS. The agreement with Takilant was signed on December 24, 2007, with its only registered director Gayane Avakyan. The Company could not identify any other beneficiaries than Avakyan. The Company is convinced that investigations will clarify that it has not bribed anyone or participated in money laundering.
