Toshiba Corp's Subsidiary Wins Hydropower Order in Laos- The Nation
The Nation reported that Toshiba Corp announced that Toshiba Hydro Power (Hangzhou) Co., a subsidiary of the Company, has won an order from Sinohydro Resources to supply three 80-megawatt hydroelectric turbines and generators for the Nam Ou 5 hydropower plant on the Nam Ou, a river in Laos. Toshiba Corp, KKR To Bid For Panasonic Corp's Healthcare Unit-Reuters
Reuters reported that Toshiba Corp and U.S. private equity firm Kohlberg Kravis Roberts & Co (KKR) are among those expected to bid for Panasonic Corp's healthcare business, financial sources with knowledge of the matter said. Panasonic is looking to raise as much as $1 billion by selling shares in the healthcare unit, whose products include blood sugar monitoring equipment, hearing aids and electronic medical record-keeping systems. The Company, which is being advised by Bank of America Merrill Lynch on the sale, has set a deadline of Monday for first-round bids, according to the sources who spoke on condition of anonymity because the bidding is not public. Toshiba Corp announced that it will issue JPY 20 billion 54th series unsecured corporate bonds with a term of three years and interest rate 0.47%, JPY 60 billion 55th series unsecured corporate bonds with a term of five years and interest rate 0.75%, JPY 10 billion 56th series unsecured corporate bonds with a term of seven years and interest rate 1.06%. Toshiba Corp to Build Solar Plants in Japan with SunEdison-Nikkei
Nikkei reported that Toshiba Corp and U.S. firm SunEdison have agreed to jointly build solar power plants in the growing Japanese market by sharing core components and technologies. SunEdison, which is a builder of megasolar plants, will make a full entry into electricity sales in Japan through the partnership. Toshiba anticipates JPY 270 billion in orders for construction of power-plant-related facilities by the end of fiscal year 2013 and SunEdison is to sell the power generated at the plants.
