United Continental Holdings Inc and its wholly owned subsidiary, United Air Lines, Inc., announced an order to purchase 150 narrow body Boeing 737 aircraft. Under the new agreement, the Company will purchase 100 Boeing 737 MAX 9 aircraft and 50 Boeing 737-900ER aircraft for delivery between 2013 and 2022. United Continental Holdings Inc and Association of Flight Attendants Reach Tentative Agreement

United Continental Holdings Inc announced that the United Master Executive Council (MEC) of the Association of Flight Attendants (AFA) informed UAL that the MEC has approved a tentative agreement between AFA and UAL for a flight attendants' contract and is recommending the tentative agreement to United flight attendants for their consideration and ratification. The agreement is the result of an expedited mediation process that began last September, modeled on the National Mediation Board's Expedited Mediation Program. The agreement provides for numerous improvements, including increased wages and a signing bonus for United flight attendants. The tentative agreement covers more than 15,000 flight attendants at the Company's United Airlines subsidiary located throughout the United States and several international bases and is subject to ratification by United Airlines flight attendants. Continental flight attendants ratified their collective bargaining agreement in February 2011.  Full Article

United Continental Holdings Inc Announces Daily Service From Washington To Doha, Qatar

United Continental Holdings Inc announced that United Airlines will launch daily service between its Washington/Dulles hub and Doha, Qatar, via Dubai, effective May 1, 2012, subject to government approval. Doha will be the fourth city in the Gulf region that United serves from Washington/Dulles, in addition to Dubai, Kuwait City and Bahrain. Canada Watchdog Assails Air Canada Inc, United Continental Holdings, Inc. JV-Reuters

Reuters reported that a proposed joint venture (JV) between Air Canada Inc and United Continental Holdings, Inc. would hurt Air Canada's customers and the Canadian economy, the competition watchdog said in documents made public on Tuesday. In June, the Competition Bureau appealed to the Competition Tribunal to have the joint venture scrapped on antitrust grounds. In the documents released, Commissioner Melanie Aitken said the venture would lead to reduced service at higher prices, undermining the efficiency and adaptability of the Canadian economy. Air Canada and United are already in an alliance agreement in which they co-ordinate seat sales, fare structures, discounts and marketing campaigns on transborder routes. The proposed joint venture would go a step further, allowing the two airlines to pool resources and share revenue on transborder routes to the extent that it would not matter which airline operated a certain route or collected the fares.  Full Article
