Varian Medical Systems Inc announced that Timothy E. Guertin has declared his intention to retire as the Company's President and CEO at the end of the Company's current fiscal year on September 28, 2012. Varian's Board of Directors has elected Dow R. Wilson, the Company's current Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer, to become Varian's President and CEO upon Guertin's retirement. Varian Medical Systems Inc. announced that with tremendous movements in currency exchange rates, particularly the substantial weakening of the Euro, it is adjusting outlook for fiscal 2012. Compared with fiscal 2011 totals, the Company now expects revenues could increase by about 8% and net earnings per diluted share from continuing operations could grow by 8% to 9%. The Company reported revenues of $2.597 billion and EPS $3.44 in fiscal 2011. Varian Medical Systems Inc. announced that for the third quarter of 2012, it expects revenue to be 9%-10% over the third quarter of 2011 and earnings per share (EPS) to be in the range of $0.91-$0.95. For fiscal 2012, it expects revenues to increase over the fiscal 2011 total by about 10% and earnings per diluted share (EPS) to be in the range of $3.76-$3.84. The Company reported revenue of $649.4 million in the third quarter of 2011 and $2.60 billion for fiscal 2011. According to I/B/E/S Estimates, analysts are expecting the Company to report revenues of $719 million and EPS of $1.18 for the third quarter of 2012; revenues of $2.834 billion and EPS of $3.96 for fiscal 2012.  Full Article

Varian Medical Systems Inc. And Siemens Healthcare Announce Global Collaboration To Advance Clinical Capabilities And Offerings In Radiotherapy And Radiosurgery

Varian Medical Systems Inc. and Siemens Healthcare announced the signing of a strategic global partnership to provide advanced diagnostic and therapeutic solutions and services for treating cancer with image-guided radiotherapy and radiosurgery. The collaboration covers the mutual marketing and representation of products for imaging and treatment in the global radiation oncology business. This collaboration further comprises the development of software interfaces between Siemens and Varian treatment systems. The two companies will also investigate opportunities for joint development of new products for image-guided radiotherapy and radiosurgery. Under the agreement that was signed, Varian will represent Siemens diagnostic imaging products such as CT, PET/CT or MRI to radiation oncology clinics around the world beginning immediately in international markets and expanding to North America later this year. Furthermore, Varian and Siemens will develop interfaces that will enable connecting Varian's ARIA oncology information system software with Siemens accelerators and imaging systems to give clinics more options for improving workflow and streamlining their operations. The collaboration enables Varian and Siemens to co-develop and offer cancer treatment centers new imaging and treatment solutions utilizing the strengths and technology of both companies.  Full Article

Varian Medical Systems Inc Establishes Office in Hungary to Support Local Radiotherapy Departments-Obesity, Fitness & Wellness Week

Obesity, Fitness & Wellness Week reported that Varian Medical Systems Inc is opening a local office in Hungary with the aim of helping the country's radiotherapy departments to offer advanced treatments for a growing cancer population. The headquarters, situated in Budapest and initially employing seven people, will serve Hungary's radiotherapy departments and act as a sales and support services support hub for customers across south-east Europe. Varian Medical Systems Inc. Announces Agreement To Acquire InfiMed, Inc.

Varian Medical Systems Inc. announced that it has reached an agreement to acquire InfiMed, Inc., a privately-owned, supplier of workstations including hardware and software for processing diagnostic X-ray images. The acquisition, which is expected to close in early April subject to the satisfaction of certain closing conditions, will operate within Varian's X-Ray Products segment. The agreement provides that Varian will pay approximately $15 million for InfiMed plus earnouts based on sales of InfiMed products achieved over the next 24 months. Varian expects that the acquisition will be about neutral to earnings per diluted share in fiscal 2012. Terms of the transaction were not disclosed.  Full Article

Varian Medical Systems Inc. to Equip New Proton Treatment Center in Russia

Varian Medical Systems Inc. announced that it has booked an order to equip a new two-room proton therapy center at the PTC St. Petersburg Center of Nuclear Medicine of the International Institute of Biological Systems in Russia. The equipment order was placed by Owen Kane Oncology Equipment, Inc. in New York which is supplying the system to the center in St. Petersburg. Under the purchase agreement Varian will equip the new center with a ProBeamâ„¢ system as well as its ARIA information management and Eclipse treatment planning software products. The equipment order is valued at about $50 million not including service. Equipment delivery and installation is expected to commence in 2014 and patient treatments are scheduled to begin in 2016.  Full Article

Varian Medical Systems Inc. Secures $77 Million Order To Equip Proton Treatment Center In Saudi Arabia

Varian Medical Systems Inc. announced that it has booked a $77 million order with Saudi Particle Therapy Centre LLC to equip a new proton therapy facility at the King Fahd Medical Center in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia . Varian will equip the new center with a ProBeam system for five treatment rooms as well as two TrueBeam medical linear accelerators. Equipment delivery and installation is expected to commence in spring 2013 and patient treatments are scheduled to begin in late 2014. The agreement will also include a multi-year service contract that should commence as the installation is completed.  Full Article
