US agency probing complaints that steering column control computer can fail on 2 Volkswagen AG models - AP

Volkswagen AG:U.S. safety regulators are investigating reports that a steering column control computer can fail on two Volkswagen models, knocking out the horn and air bags - The Associated Press.The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration says it received nine reports of the problem on the 2012 Passat and CC models.The probe covers about 30,000 cars.Owners have complained that the failure happens during normal driving conditions and is sometimes accompanied by a noise from the steering column.The agency says that when the computer fails, the air bag warning light illuminates on the dashboard.Investigators will look at how often the problem happens and the consequences before deciding if a recall is needed.Volkswagen says it’s co-operating with the investigation.  Full Article

Volkswagen AG:Says Audi, Volkswagen (VW) and Porsche are recalling more than 93,500 cars and SUVs worldwide to fix fuel leak problems - The Associated Press.Recalls cover the Audi A6 and Volkswagen Touareg hybrid from the 2012 model year, the Audi A7 from 2012 and 2013, and the Audi Q7, S4 and S5 from 2011 through 2012.All the vehicles have 3-litre V-6 engines, according to documents posted by U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.Also, the documents show a separate but similar recall from Porsche covering the Cayenne and Panamera S hybrids from 2011 to 2012.Says vibration during driving, and production issues can cause small leaks in rare cases.VW and Audi said they were not aware of any fires or injuries caused by the problem.About 27,000 VW, Audi and Porsche vehicles are being recalled in the U.S., according to the documents.The problem was discovered in March of 2013 when customers complained of fuel odour, according to the NHTSA documents.VW investigated and decided Jan. 12 to do a recall.  Full Article
