VMware Inc Issues Q2 2013 Revenue Guidance Below Analysts' Estimates; Issues FY 2013 Revenue Guidance In Line With Analysts' Estimates

VMware Inc announced that for second quarter of 2013, it expects total revenues to be in the range of $1.21 billion to $1.24 billion, an increase of approximately 8% to 10% from the second quarter of 2012. Second quarter license revenues are expected to be between $515 million and $535 million. For fiscal 2013, it expects revenues to be in the range of $5.12 billion to $5.24 billion, an increase of approximately 11% to 14% from 2012, and annual license revenues are expected to grow approximately 6% to 9%. According to I/B/E/S Estimates, analysts on an average were expecting the Company to report revenues of $1.25 billion for second quarter of 2013 and revenue of $5.21 billion for fiscal 2013.  Full Article

Cisco Systems Inc, International Business Machines Corp, VMware Inc And Others Team Up On New Technology Project-Reuters

Reuters reported that Cisco Systems Inc, International Business Machines Corp (IBM) and Citrix Systems Inc have joined forces with other tech companies in a consortium to kickstart the corporate market for software-defined networking (SDN), aimed at making network management easier and cheaper. Other members of the development platform called OpenDaylight include Juniper Networks, Inc., VMware Inc, Microsoft Corp, Red Hat, Inc., Intel Corp and Brocade Communications Systems Inc as well as privately held Big Switch Networks and Arista Networks. Each member will contribute technology such as code to the project in an effort to share the costs of basic research and development, and enable products from different vendors to work together. Vendors will still be able to customize their offerings to differentiate themselves from rivals. The SDN market is still considered nascent, but is expected to grow to $3.7 billion by 2016 from an estimated $360 million this year, according to research firm IDC. The first code from OpenDaylight is expected to be released in the third quarter of this year.  Full Article

VMware Inc announced that for the first quarter 2013, it expects revenues to increase between approximately 9% and 13% over the prior year period and net income to be between $0.55 and $0.58 per diluted share. The Company reported revenues of $1.055 billion in the first quarter of 2012. According to I/B/E/S Estimates, analysts on an average were expecting the Company to report revenues of $1.185 billion and EPS of $0.68 for the first quarter of 2013.  Full Article

VCE and VMware Inc Extend Partnership to Jointly Develop, Sell and Deliver Vblock Cloud Management and Orchestration

VCE, is in converged cloud infrastructure systems and VMware Inc announced an expanded development partnership that will allow Vblock customers to experience seamless integration between VMware's portfolio of Cloud Management Solutions and VCE's Vblock Systems. The two companies will integrate technologies to enhance service provisioning, operations management and business management with the Vblock Systems Portfolio. In addition to VMware vSphere and vCenter Server, VCE will OEM vCenter Operations Manager, which will be integrated with VCE's newly announced VCE Vision Intelligent Operations software. Based upon joint development activities underway since early 2012, VCE is announcing native integration of its VCE Vision Intelligent Operations software into two key VMware virtualization management technologies: VMware vCenter Operations; VMware vCenter Server. In addition to the capabilities announced the two companies will be jointly developing, marketing and selling expanded integrations into the entire portfolio of VMware virtualization and cloud management solutions with Vblock Systems. This includes plans to integrate VCE Vision Intelligent Operations with VMware vCloud Automation Center, VMware vCloud Suite, and IT Business Management solutions.  Full Article

VMware Inc to Acquire Virsto Software

VMware Inc announced it has signed a definitive agreement to acquire Virsto Software, a Sunnyvale, Calif.-based provider of software that optimizes storage performance and utilization in virtual environments. VMware Inc To Cut Jobs-Reuters

Reuters reported that VMware Inc plans to cut about 7% of its workforce as part of a restructuring. Chief Financial Officer Jonathan Chadwick said that strategy included shifting some people to new roles as well as cutting 900 jobs, resulting in a charge of $90 million to $110 million. Emc Corp, VMware Inc To Merge Data And Cloud App Assets Into New Group-Reuters

Reuters reported that Emc Corp and its publicly-traded subsidiary, software maker VMware Inc, are planning to merge their data analytics and cloud application assets. The companies expect to combine a number of divisions into the new group, called the Pivotal Initiative - by the second quarter of 2013 and said the specific operational structure will be determined then. The companies will provide an update on the details of the plans in the first quarter of next year, EMC said. The move will combine EMC's data analytics division Greenplum and its Pivotal Labs group with VMware's vFabric, SpringSource and Gemstone units as well VMware's data analytics company Cetas and CloudFoundry, a cloud computing platform as a service. This will affect about 600 employees from VMware and 800 employees from EMC.  Full Article
