ViaSat Inc awarded $54 mln for MIDS JTRS Development

ViaSat Inc:Has been awarded $54 mln from Space and Naval Warfare Systems Command (SPAWAR) for co-development and qualification of Tactical Targeting Network Technology (TTNT) capabilities for Multifunctional Information Distribution System Joint Tactical Radio System (MIDS JTRS).MIDS JTRS joint development by ViaSat and Data Link Solutions is part of the U.S. government program to provide migration path from MIDS-LVT terminal to certified, reprogrammable, software-defined radio architecture for tactical data links.Order was awarded under MIDS Indefinite Delivery/Indefinite Quantity contract initially executed in March 2010 and recently expanded to higher ceiling amount to accommodate additional awards.Link 16 MIDS is line-of-sight radio system for collecting and transmitting broadband, jam-resistant, secure data and voice across variety of air, sea, and ground platforms.  Full Article

ViaSat Inc reaches settlement with Space Systems/Loral and Loral Space & Communications Inc

ViaSat Inc:Says that it has reached a comprehensive settlement of all outstanding claims related to its litigation with Space Systems/Loral (SS/L) and Loral Space & Communications Inc.Says for breach of contract and patent infringement.In April 2014 a U.S. District Court in San Diego determined that SS/L breached its non-disclosure agreement with ViaSat by disclosing proprietary data to SS/L customer, and ViaSat competitor, Hughes Network Systems that was used to design Hughes' Jupiter-1 (now EchoStar XVII) high-capacity satellite.Says the jury also found three ViaSat patents to be both valid and infringed by SS/L's design of the Hughes Jupiter-1 satellite.Says a second lawsuit covering additional ViaSat patents and alleging infringement by additional SS/L satellites, including Jupiter-2 (EchoStar XIX), was likely to go to trial in early 2016.Says under the terms of this agreement, ViaSat will settle its claims in both suits in exchange for $100 million plus interest to be paid to ViaSat through 2016.  Full Article

ViaSat Inc:ViaSat Inc and Eutelsat enters into pioneering agreement that will enable service access and roaming on each other`s high-capacity satellite networks (KA-SAT for Eutelsat and ViaSat-1 for ViaSat).Both Ka-band networks, representing well over half of all Ka-band capacity on orbit worldwide, share the same high-capacity satellite ecosystem, enabled by the ViaSat Broadband System, along with other ground infrastructure owned and operated by Eutelsat and ViaSat.Resulting high-capacity service area will span North America, Europe and the Mediterranean Basin.Customers will be able to operate an array of fixed and mobile services including in-flight connectivity, maritime, emergency relief, oil and gas operations and government applications anywhere within the combined coverage areas.Agreement includes provisions for future satellites and follow-on technologies as they complement current Eutelsat and ViaSat High Throughput Satellites.Future includes ViaSat-2, scheduled for launch in 2016, which is designed to cover a broader footprint in North America, Central America, the Gulf of Mexico, the Caribbean and to bridge the North Atlantic to form a blanket of high-capacity coverage across the region.  Full Article

ViaSat, Inc:Says that federal court jury has awarded ViaSat $283 million in damages in its patent infringement and breach of contract case against Space Systems/Loral (SS/L).The jury found SS/L infringed three ViaSat patents relating to its ViaSat-1 high-capacity satellite system: U.S. Patent Nos. 8,010,043, 8,068,827, and 8,107,875 and (2) breached the non-disclosure agreements and manufacturing contract between the parties.During trial, SS/L dropped its counterclaim alleging ViaSat had infringed an SS/L patent.The trial was held in the United States District Court for the Southern District of California.  Full Article
