ITT Exelis Secures $15 Million Contract For Composite Tail Rotor Blade Assemblies
ITT Exelis announced that it has been awarded a contract valued at more than $15 million from Sikorsky, a subsidiary of United Technologies Corp., for the production of composite tail rotor blade components on the S-76D helicopter. The work will be performed at the new Exelis composite design and manufacturing center in Salt Lake City, Utah. Under this contract, Exelis will fabricate key structures of the S-76D composite tail rotor blade assembly, including the blades, the composite laminate beam, which carries the load of the tail rotors, and additional hardware required for final assembly. Composite materials in the tail rotor blade assembly, critical to the aircraft's directional stability, help reduce the weight of the aircraft, improve its reliability and decrease the noise impact to its passengers and the communities where it operates. ITT Exelis To Supply Antennas For International Ballistic Missile Defense Efforts
ITT Exelis announced that it has been selected by Raytheon Company to supply antenna subsystems for the Standard Missile-3 (SM-3) program. The Exelis antennas will be fielded as part of SM-3 Block IIA, a cooperative development program between the U.S. Department of Defense and the Ministry of Defense of Japan, scheduled to be deployed in 2018. Employed as part of the Aegis Ballistic Missile Defense System, the SM-3 will provide interception capability against short, medium and intermediate-range ballistic missiles. Under the contract, valued at $2.96 million, Exelis will produce conformal, multifunction apertures to provide navigation, multiple data link and flight-termination capabilities for the missiles. This will help improve accuracy and communications during flight while maintaining crew safety in the event of an emergency termination.
