UPDATE 1-Chevron lands Chubu gas deal, Gorgon sale near end

SAN FRANCISCO, Dec 16 (Reuters) - Chevron Corp said on Wednesday it closed a deal with Japan's Chubu Electric Power Co for about a fifth of the U.S. oil major's share of natural gas from the massive Gorgon project in Australia.
