NEW YORK, June 17 (Reuters) - Standard & Poor's lowered its credit ratings on 18 U.S. banks on Wednesday, saying increased regulation and market volatility will hurt the already weakened sector.

KBW says 71 banks may require $15.2 bln capital

May 12 (Reuters) - Keefe Bruyette & Woods said 71 regional banks, excluding the 19 largest U.S. banks, would need to raise a total of $15.2 billion in capital in the stress-case scenario.

UPDATE 1-Astoria earnings fall on rising credit costs

NEW YORK, Jan 28 (Reuters) - Astoria Financial Corp , a large New York savings & loan bank, on Wednesday said its fourth-quarter earnings fell by a third as a weakening economy and housing market triggered an increase in bad loans.
