US utilities post Q2 profits; cautious about recovery
(Reuters) - Utilities El Paso Electric Co , Allete Inc and Avista Corp reported strong second-quarter profits as lower costs helped offset the decline in electricity demand, but the companies remained guarded about their outlook for the remainder of 2009.

Allete to buy power line to add wind, cut coal
NEW YORK (Reuters) - Allete Inc's Minnesota Power subsidiary agreed to buy a power transmission line from Square Butte Electric Co-op for about $80 million which will transport wind energy from the plains of North Dakota to Minnesota, the company said in a release Monday.
