Name Description
Carlson, James Mr. James G. Carlson is Chairman of the Board, President, Chief Executive Officer of AMERIGROUP Corporation. He has been one of Company's Directors since 2007. Mr. Carlson has been Company's President and Chief Executive Officer since September 1, 2007, and Chairman of the Board since May 8, 2008. Prior to that, he served as Company's President and Chief Operating Officer from 2005. Previously, he served as an Executive Vice President of UnitedHealth Group and President of its UnitedHealthcare business unit, which served more than 10 million members in HMO and PPO plans nationwide. Mr. Carlson also serves on the Board of Directors of the National Kidney Foundation, Morningside College and the Health Sector Advisory Council of Duke University’s Fuqua School of Business, in addition to numerous community charitable organizations. On May 8, 2008, Mr. Carlson was re-elected as a Director of the Company for a three-year term that expires in 2011.
Truess, James Mr. James W. Truess joined AMERIGROUP Corporation in July 2006 as Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer. Mr. Truess has more than nineteen years in the managed care industry, including the last eleven years as a chief financial officer. Prior to joining the Company, Mr. Truess served as Chief Financial Officer and Treasurer of Group Health Cooperative, a vertically integrated healthcare system that coordinates care and coverage to residents of Washington state and North Idaho, from 1997 to 2006. Mr. Truess is a CFA charterholder.
Zoretic, Richard Mr. Richard C. Zoretic joined AMERIGROUP Corporation in September of 2003 and serves as the Company Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer. From November 2005 to August 2007, he served as Executive Vice President, Health Plan Operations; and from September 2003 to November 2005, Mr. Zoretic was the Company's Chief Marketing Officer. Mr. Zoretic has more than 28 years in healthcare and insurance, having served as Senior Vice President of Network Operations and Distributions at CIGNA Dental Health from February 2003 to August 2003. Root, Leon Mr. Leon A. Root, Jr. joined AMERIGROUP Corporation in May 2002 as a Senior Vice President and Chief Technology Officer and has served as the Company's Executive Vice President and Chief Information Officer since June 2003. Prior to joining the Company, Mr. Root served as Chief Information Officer at Medunite, Inc., a private e-commerce company founded by Aetna Inc., Cigna Corp., PacifiCare Health Systems and five other national managed care companies.
Baldwin, Stanley Mr. Stanley F. Baldwin joined AMERIGROUP Corporation in 1997 and serves as the Company's Executive Vice President, General Counsel and Secretary. Mr. Baldwin is licensed to practice law in Virginia, Tennessee and Texas. Mr. Baldwin has more than 27 years of experience representing healthcare companies, 24 of which have been devoted to managed care. Prior to joining the Company, Mr. Baldwin served as a senior officer and general counsel of Epic Holdings, Inc., EQUICOR — Equitable HCA Corporation and CIGNA Healthplans, Inc.
Grden, Nancy Ms. Nancy L. Grden joined AMERIGROUP Corporation in 2001 and serves as Executive Vice President. Ms. Grden was Founder and President of Avenir, LLC, providing consulting and interim executive services to new ventures, as well as Chief Executive Officer for Lifescape, LLC, a web-based behavioral health services company for employers and providers. Ms. Grden also served as Executive Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer for FHC Health Systems, parent company of ValueOptions, Inc. Previously, Ms. Grden was Executive Vice President, Marketing Services for NationsBank, before the firm became part of Bank of America.
Littel, John Mr. John E. Littel joined AMERIGROUP Corporation in 2001 and serves as Executive Vice President, External Relations. Mr. Littel has worked in a variety of positions within state and Federal governments, as well as for non-profit organizations and political campaigns. Mr. Littel served as the Deputy Secretary of Health and Human Resources for the Commonwealth of Virginia. On the Federal level, he served as the director of intergovernmental affairs for The White House’s Office of National Drug Control Policy. Mr. Littel also held the position of Associate Dean and Associate Professor of Law and Government at Regent University. Mr. Littel is licensed to practice law in the State of Pennsylvania.
McCluskey, Mary Dr. Mary T. McCluskey, M.D. joined AMERIGROUP Corporation in September 2007 as Executive Vice President and Chief Medical Officer. From 1999 to 2007, Dr. McCluskey served in a variety of senior medical positions with Aetna Inc., a diversified healthcare benefits company, most recently as Chief Medical Officer, Northeast Region. Her previous positions at Aetna Inc., included National Medical Director/Head of Clinical Cost Management and Senior Regional Medical Director, Southeast Region.
Whitley-Taylor, Linda Ms. Linda K. Whitley-Taylor joined AMERIGROUP Corporation in January 2008 and serves as Executive Vice President, Associate Services. Prior to joining the Company, Ms. Whitley-Taylor was Senior Vice President, Human Resources Operations with Genworth Financial, a global financial security company and former division of General Electric, where she was employed for nineteen years.
Roomsburg, Margaret Ms. Margaret M. Roomsburg joined AMERIGROUP Corporation in 1996 and has served as Senior Vice President and Chief Accounting Officer since February 1, 2007. Previously, Ms. Roomsburg served as our Controller. Prior to joining the Company, Ms. Roomsburg was the Director of Finance for Value Options, Inc. Ms. Roomsburg is a certified public accountant.
McBride, William Mr. McBride has been one of Directors of AMERIGROUP Corporation since 1995. Mr. McBride has been retired since 1995. Prior to that, Mr. McBride was President, Chief Operating Officer and a Director of Value Health, Inc. and President and Chief Executive Officer of CIGNA Healthplans, Inc. Mr. McBride also serves on the Board of Directors of Magellan Health Services, Inc., a specialty healthcare management organization, and a number of privately held companies.
Reinhardt, Uwe Dr. Reinhardt has been one of the Directors of Amerigroup Corp. since 2002. He is the James Madison Professor of Political Economy and Public Affairs of Princeton University, a Trustee of Duke University and of its Duke University Health System, a Trustee of the H&Q Healthcare Investors and H&Q Life Sciences Investors, and a member of the Editorial Board of the Journal of the American Medical Association, Health Affairs and several other journals. Dr. Reinhardt serves on the Board of Boston Scientific Corporation. He is a Commissioner on the Henry J. Kaiser Family Foundation’s Commission on Medicaid and the Uninsured. Until 2002, he had served for five years on the Center for Health Care Strategies, a non-profit think tank focused on improving managed-care techniques for the Medicaid and State Children’s Health Insurance Program populations. On May 10, 2007, Dr. Reinhardt was re-elected as a Director of the Company for a three-year term that expires in 2010.
Shirk, Richard Mr. Shirk has been one of Directors of Amerigroup Corp. since 2002. Mr. Shirk has been retired since April 2002. Prior to that, Mr. Shirk served as Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Cerulean Companies and as President and Chief Executive Officer of its wholly-owned subsidiary, Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Georgia. He has also held senior executive positions with CIGNA HealthCare, EQUICOR - Equitable HCA Corporation and The Equitable. In addition, Mr. Shirk serves on the Board of Directors of the SSgA funds, the Healthcare Georgia Foundation and a number of privately held companies. Child, Jeffrey Mr. Child has been one of Directors of AMERIGROUP Corporation since 2003. Since July 2005, Mr. Child has served as the Chief Financial Officer of a family office of an unaffiliated third party. From February 1999 through June 2003, Mr. Child served as a Managing Director, U.S. equity capital markets at Banc of America Securities LLC, where he was responsible for its public equity underwriting business in the United States. Capps, Thomas Mr. Capps has been one of Directors of AMERIGROUP Corporation since 2005. In 2007, Mr. Capps retired as Chairman of the Board of Directors of Dominion Resources, Inc., a position he had held since 2005. Prior to that, Mr. Capps served as the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Dominion Resources, Inc. Mr. Capps received his undergraduate and law degrees from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Mr. Capps joined Dominion Resources, Inc. in 1984 after practicing law in North Carolina and Florida and holding positions in the law departments of two other electric utility companies. Mr. Capps also serves on the Board of Directors of Associated Electric and Gas Insurance Service and The Shaw Group, Inc. He also serves on the Board of Visitors of the College of William and Mary.
James, Kay Ms. James has been one of the Directors of Amerigroup Corp. since 2005. She is the President of The Gloucester Institute. From June 2001 to January 2005, Ms. James served as Director, U.S. Office of Personnel Management, where she was principal human resources advisor to President George W. Bush. She has also served as Secretary of Health and Human Services for the Commonwealth of Virginia; Senior Fellow at The Heritage Foundation; and Assistant Secretary of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. She currently serves on the Board of The Heritage Foundation, and the National Board of The Salvation Army. Ms. James previously served on the AMERIGROUP Corporation Board of Directors from October 28, 1999 until July 26, 2001. Ms. James is a graduate of Hampton University and the author of three books. Ms. James also serves on the Board of Directors of The PNC Financial Services Group, Inc. On May 10, 2007, Ms. James was re-elected as a Director of the Company for a three-year term that expires in 2010.
Fullwood, Emerson Mr. Fullwood has been one of Directors of AMERIGROUP Corporation since February 11, 2009. Mr. Fullwood retired from Xerox Corporation in June 2008 after serving as Corporate Vice President, Executive Chief of Staff and Marketing Officer for Xerox North America since 2004. Prior to that, Mr. Fullwood held several executive and general management leadership positions with Xerox, including Corporate Vice President. Mr. Fullwood currently serves as a Director of the Vanguard Group and the Vanguard Funds and SPX Corporation. Moddelmog, Hala Ms. Hala Moddelmog is Director of AMERIGROUP Corporation. She has has led Susan G. Komen for the Cure, a nonprofit organization that is a national leader in the fight against breast cancer. She is herself a survivor of the disease. Prior to her current position, she enjoyed a 20-year career in the food services industry that included serving as President of Church's Chicken, an international restaurant chain, and founding her own consulting and investment company, Catalytic Ventures. Ms. Moddelmog has held executive management and marketing positions with Church's Chicken, Arby's Franchise Association and BellSouth. She has previously served on the boards of directors of Fiesta Brands, Inc. and HyperActive Technologies, and on the boards of trustees of Georgia Southern University Foundation and Clark Atlanta University.
