Vuursteen, Karel Mr. Karel Vuursteen has been Chairman of the Supervisory Board of Akzo Nobel N.V. since February 24, 2009. He was Deputy Chairman of the Supervisory Board of Akzo Nobel N.V. from May 1, 2006 to February 24, 2009. He was first appointed to the Supervisory Board in 2002 and his term of office ran until 2010. He holds a Masters degree in Agriculture from the Wageningen University. He is former Chief Executive Officer of Heineken. He is Deputy Chairman and Member of the Board of Directors of Heineken Holding, Member of the Supervisory Boards of ING Group, TomTom NV and Henkel AG (Germany), as well as Member of the Advisory Board of CVC Capital Partners Nederland. Mr. Vuursteen is Chairman of the Remuneration Committee and Member of the Nominating Committee.
Wijers, Hans Mr. Hans G.J. Wijers has been Chairman of the Management Board of Akzo Nobel N.V., responsible for Coatings and Chief Executive Officer since May 1, 2003. He joined Akzo Nobel in October 2002 as Member of the Management Board. Mr. Wijers studied Economics at the Rijksuniversiteit Groningen (University of Groningen). Nichols, Keith Mr. Keith Nichols has been Member of the Management Board and Chief Financial Officer of Akzo Nobel N.V. since May 1, 2008. Before that date he served as Senior Vice President - Finance of the Company. Darner, Leif Mr. Leif Darner has been Member of the Management Board of Akzo Nobel N.V., responsible for Performance Coatings since July 1, 2004. After graduating from Goteborgs Universitet (University of Goteborg), he held several Management Positions before being appointed General Manager of Powder Coatings Scandinavia at Courtaulds in 1985. In 1993, Mr. Darner was appointed Chief Executive of Coatings Northern Europe. Then in 1997 he served as Worldwide Director of Yacht Paint and Protective Coatings. In 1998, Courtaulds became part of Akzo Nobel and Mr. Darner was appointed Manager of Akzo Nobel Marine & Protective Coatings, a post he held from 1999 until 2004, when he was appointed to the Board of Management of Akzo Nobel.
Gunning, Louis Mr. Louis Willem (Tex) Gunning has been Managing Director Decorative Paints of Akzo Nobel N.V. since September 1, 2008. He is nominated to join the Company's Board of Management in April 2009. Mr. Gunning holds a degree in Economics from the Erasmus Universiteit Rotterdam. Mr. Gunning has been an Advisor to many business leaders and academics all around the world. His career has spanned over 25 years in Unilever, lastly as Business Group President Asia Foods. In September 2007 Mr. Gunning was appointed as Chief Executive Officer of Vedior, a global company in HRM services. After a successful merger with Randstad Mr. Gunning joined Akzo Nobel as the Managing Director Decorative Paints.
