Name Description

Jean-Claude Cadudal

Mr. Jean-Claude Cadudal has been the Chairman of the Board of Carmat SA since May 7, 2010. He is also Member of the Audit Committee and Compensation Board of the Company. He served as Director, International Operations, at EADS until early 2008. He serves as Chairman of KARDIOZIS SAS, of HOLDING INCUBATRICE MEDICAL DEVICES, and EPYGON SAS. He formerly held positions as Chairman of Matra Defense, Group Finance Controller at MBDA and Administrator of the CARMAT programme. After graduating in industrial automation, he started his career in design and development activities in the nuclear industry and then in the industrial division at ITT. After a spell at the Operations Directorate at Revlon Europe, he joined Matra in 1983.

Marcello Conviti

Mr. Marcello Conviti has been the Chief Executive Officer of Carmat SA since September 2009 and was appointed as a Director of the Company on May 7, 2010. He started his career with IBM in Italy in 1978. After a few years working in Italian companies (including the Fiat motor company), Mr. Conviti focused on pan-European management in the life sciences industry. He spent twelve years in several positions at SORIN BIOMEDICA, an Italian company specialized in the design and development of cardiovascular medical devices. Before joining Carmat SA, Mr. Conviti held a series of international management roles over 17 years at Edwards Lifesciences, (most recently as Senior Vice President Strategy and New Business Development), a manufacturer of haemodynamic monitoring and heart valves. Mr. Conviti was also a Member of the Board of EUCOMED, the European Medical Technology Industry Association. He holds an MBA from the Universita di Turin and a PhD in Information Technology from the Universita di Pisa.

Patrick Coulombier

Mr. Patrick Coulombier serves as Deputy Chief Executive Officer and was appointed Chief Operating Officer of Carmat SA as of 2011. He has led the GIE CARMAT artificial heart project team since July 2001, after having served as Director of two international programs in the defence sector (one concerning a UK aerial combat training system and the other a Franco-German drone system) at MBDA France (EADS’ missile systems subsidiary). From 1978 to 1990 (prior to joining MBDA France), he held a series of aerospace research and development management positions at THALES Avionics (the Airbus A310 & A320, the Rafale combat aircraft, the Super Puma helicopter and the Hermes space shuttle). Mr. Coulombier holds a Master's Degree in Electronic Engineering.

Marc Grimme

Mr. Marc Grimme is the Technical Director of Carmat SA. Since 1996, he has served as the GIE CARMAT program’s technical project leader and thus has more than 10 years of experience in the artificial heart field. From 1991 to 1996, he worked in all areas related to the development of mission-critical electronics at MBDA France, from upstream studies and the design phase to production commissioning for missile systems such as image processing modules, launch equipment and ordnance systems. Mr. Grimme holds a Master's Degree in Electronic Engineering.

Alain Carpentier

Prof. Alain Carpentier is the Scientific Director of Carmat SA and was also appointed as a Independent Director of the Company on May 7, 2010. He is also a Chairman of the Company’s Medical Advisory Board and Scientific Advisory Board. He is Emeritus Professor at the Pierre & Marie Curie University in Paris, where he founded and manages the Heart Transplant and Prostheses Laboratory. He is also a Professor at the Mount Sinai School of Medicine in New York. As a member of the French Academy of Science and a winner of the 1998 Foundation for Medical Research Prize, he also received the Albert Lasker Award for Clinical Medical Research in 2007 in recognition of his two main contributions to the field: invention of the first valve bioprostheses (Carpentier-Edwards valves) and the development of techniques for plastic and reconstructive surgery of heart valves. Prof. Carpentier also serves as a Director of Fondation Singer Polignac and Association Recherche Scientifique de la Fondation Alain Carpentier, and Chairman of Academie des Sciences.

Valerie Leroy

Ms. Valerie Leroy has served as Director of Marketing and Investor Relations at Carmat SA since February 9, 2011. She holds a Masters degree in Marketing from Institut d'Administration des Entreprises - Pantheon-Sorbonne, gained in 1996. She started her career in the area of Information Technology in 1984 and held various roles until 1996. She was notably in charge of key-accounts for Toshiba Systems from 1988 to 1994. In 1996, she joined the marketing teams of Medtronic, working on its cardiac stimulators range. In 2001, she moved to Edwards Lifesciences, where she held for nine years various marketing and sales roles. Between 2008 and 2010, she was the Europe Director of marketing for the surgical cardiac valves therapies range.

Herve Bocquet

Mr. Herve Bocquet is the Industrial Director of Carmat SA. Since 2001, he served as Chief Engineer on a drones program as part of an international cooperation scheme and then as Head of UAV production within Cassidian, the defence and security branch of EADS. Prior to that, he held roles related to industrial production for on board equipment and drones systems at MBDA after having been Technical Head of missile equipment and aerospace systems within the engines division from 1985 to 1990. Mr. Bocquet holds a degree in mechanical engineering and aeronautics.

Petrus Jansen

Dr. Petrus (Piet) Jansen has been the Medical Director of Carmat SA since December 2009. Dr. Jansen has held manager positions at medical device companies focused on Circulatory Support since 1997. He was Chief Medical Officer at World Heart Corporation in Oakland CA, USA from 2004 to 2009. Dr. Jansen was Vice President, Clinical Programs at Orqis International GmbH from 2003 to 2004; Vice President, Clinical Affairs at Jarvik Heart Inc. (New York, USA) from 2001 to 2003. From 1997 to 2001, Dr. Jansen worked for the Novacor Division of Edwards Lifesciences LLC, formerly Baxter Corporation. Prior to joining the medical device industry, he worked multiple years in cardiac surgery clinics in Amsterdam, the Netherlands. Dr. Jansen has a Doctorate of Medicine Degree from Radboud University Nijmegen, a PhD in Pathophysiology of Extracorporeal Circulation from the Free University Amsterdam and a Post-doctorate degree in Clinical Epidemiology from the Universiteit van Amsterdam.

Joelle Monnier

Ms. Joelle Monnier has been the Director of Quality of Carmat SA since 2009. She previously held various roles as marketing and regulatory affairs coordinator within Depuy France from 1991 to 1997. She was then in charge of quality and regulatory affairs as well as Site Manager of an orthopedic implants company from 1998 to 2007, before being appointed as Project Manager for medico-economic and organizational studies within Iris Conseil Sante. Ms. Monnier holds a Doctorate of Medicine from Faculte de medicine of the Universite de Rennes, and is also a graduate from Centre d’Enseignement de la Statistique Appliquee a la Medecine et a la Biologie Medicale (CESAM), with a specialization in Epidemiology, as well as holding a quality control in services certificate by CEGOS.

Claire Philibert

Ms. Claire Philibert is the Director of Purchasing of Carmat SA. She started her career in marketing at GrandOptical, following the launch of the chain. She then served as Head of Purchasing for 10 years in various companies, including Nycomed Amersham Medical Systems and Diagnostics Stago. Ms. Philibert is a graduate of Ecole d’Administration et de Direction des Affaires.

Philippe Pouletty

Dr. Philippe Pouletty has been the Representative of Truffle Capital on the Board of Directors of Carmat SA since May 7, 2010. He also serves as Chairman of the Company's Compensation Board. He qualified as a Medical Doctor and Immunologist from the Universite Paris VI and then gained clinical & research experience at the Pasteur Institute, the University of Stanford and the Paris Public Hospitals group. He is cited as an inventor on 29 patents. He has been made a Knight of the French Legion of Honour and was awarded the American Liver Foundation Prize in 1999. Dr. Pouletty is a founder and General Partner of the Truffle Capital private equity firm and also has founded several biotech companies in the USA and Europe (SangStat, Conjuchem, DrugAbuse Sciences). He is also Chairman of France Biotech. Dr. Pouletty serves on the Boards of various companies, including Neovacs, Pharnext, Symetis, Theraclion, Vexim and Wittycell, among others.

Andre-Michel Ballester

Mr. Andre-Michel Ballester has been an Independent Director of Carmat SA since May 7, 2010. He is a specialist in cardiovascular surgery devices and started his healthcare industry career at Travenol in the 1980s. He has since held senior management positions in the medical device and life science industries in Europe and the United States. Mr. Ballester is currently Admistratore Delegato (CEO) of Sorin S.P.A. He is also an Independent Director of PIXIUM VISION SA and Mauna Kea Technologies. He is a graduate of Ecole Centrale de Lille engineering school and of INSEAD business school.

Michel Finance

Mr. Michel Finance has been Independent Director of Carmat SA since May 7, 2010. He previously served as Acting Chief Executive Officer of the Company from June 2008 to September 2009. He also acts as Chairman of the Company's Audit Committee. He is Chairman and MD of HOLDING INCUBATRICE BIOTECHNOLOGIE SA. He is also a Director of Neovacs as of 2010, where he previously served as Deputy CEO from 2009 to 2010. Henri Lachmann

Mr. Henri Lachmann has served as an Independent Director of Carmat SA since December 23, 2010. He started his career in 1963 at Arthur Andersen and in 1970 he joined Strafor Facom, whwre he became President in 1981. He was appointed Director of Schneider Electric in 1996 and became its Chairman and Chief Executive Officer in 1999. He currently serves as Chairman of the Supervisory Board of Schneider Electric. Mr. Lachmann holds several other positions, including Chairman of the Board of Directors at the CENTRE CHIRURGICAL MARIE LANNELONGUE, Chairman of the INSTITUT TELEMAQUE, Director of the FONDATION ENTREPRENDRE, Member of the Supervisory Board of VIVENDI SA, among others. He graduated from Hautes Etudes Commerciales and is a Certified Chartered Accountant.
