Name Description

John Melo

Mr. John Melo is President, Chief Executive Officer, Director of Amyris, Inc. He has served as Chief Executive Officer and a director since January 2007 and as President since June 2008. Before joining Amyris, Mr. Melo served in various senior management positions at BP Plc (formerly British Petroleum), one of the world’s energy firms, from 1997 to 2006, most recently as President of U.S. Fuels Operations from 2004 until December 2006, and previously as Chief Information Officer of the refining and marketing segment from 2001 to 2003, Senior Advisor for e-business strategy to Lord Browne, BP Chief Executive, from 2000 to 2001, and Director of Global Brand Development from 1999 to 2000. Before joining BP, he was with Ernst & Young, an accounting firm, from 1996 to 1997, and a member of the management teams of several startup companies, including Computer Aided Services, a management systems integration company, and Alldata Corporation, a provider of automobile repair software to the automotive service industry. He serves on the board of directors of each of U.S. Venture, Inc. and Renmatix, Inc., and also serves as Vice Chairman of the board of directors of the Bay Area Biosciences Association (BayBio). Mr. Melo is an appointed member to the U.S. section of the U.S.-Brazil CEO Forum.

Steven Mills

Mr. Steven (Steve) R. Mills has been appointed as Chief Financial Officer, Principal Accounting Officer of Amyris, Inc. effective May 2, 2012. He has more than 34 years of experience in the fields of accounting, corporate finance, strategic planning and mergers and acquisitions. He served as Senior Executive Vice President of Performance & Growth at Archer-Daniels-Midland Company (“ADM”), a global agricultural commodity processing company, from December 2010 to February 2012. Previously, he served as Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of ADM from March 2008 to December 2010. He served as Senior Vice President of ADM from December 2006 to February 2008 and as Group Vice President and Controller of ADM from January 2002 to December 2006. He joined ADM in 1979 and served in various senior accounting and treasury roles. Mr. Mills has been a director and a member of the audit committee of Black Hills Corporation, a diversified energy holding company, since October 2011. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics from Illinois College in Jacksonville, Illinois.

Joel Cherry

Dr. Joel Cherry, Ph.D., is President - Research and Development of Amyris, Inc., since July 2011. Previously as the company's Senior Vice President of Research Programs and Operations since November 2008. Before joining Amyris, he was Senior Director of Bioenergy Biotechnology at Novozymes, a biotechnology company focusing on development and manufacture of industrial enzymes from 1992 to November 2008. At Novozymes, he served in a variety of R&D scientific and management positions, including membership in Novozymes’ International R&D Management team, and as Principal Investigator and Director of the BioEnergy Project, a U.S. Department of Energy-funded $18 million effort initiated in 2000. Dr. Cherry holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Chemistry from Carleton College and a Doctor of Philosophy degree in Biochemistry from the University of New Hampshire.

Paulo Diniz

Mr. Paulo Diniz is President of Amyris Brasil Ltda., a subsidiary of Amyris, Inc., since March 2011. Prior to joining Amyris, he served as Chief Financial Officer of Bunge Brasil S.A., from April 2009 to November 2010. From 2003 to April 2009, he was Chief Financial Officer and a member of the board of directors of Cosan S.A.. He received a Master of Business Administration degree from IMD in Switzerland, a BSc. degree in Production Engineering from USP in Brazil, and did post graduate work in human resources at INSEAD in France.

Karen Rohde

Ms. Karen D. Rohde has been appointed as Chief Human Resources Officer of Amyris, Inc., effective April 5, 2013. Previously, she was Senior Vice President Human Resources for Hitachi Global Storage Technologies, Inc. (HGST), where she helped drive the company's turnaround by building a customer-focused, high-performance culture that promoted global alignment, agility and collaboration across its 45,000 employee organization. Prior to HGST, Rohde was Senior Vice President Human Resources & Chief Talent Officer for Sun Microsystems, Inc. During her 13-year tenure at Sun, Rohde designed and implemented competitive, integrated talent systems and supported multiple acquisitions. Rohde began her career in Finance at Mobil Oil Corporation. Rohde has an MBA from the Haas Business School at University of California at Berkeley and a BA in English from the University of California at Irvine.

Christine Ring

Dr. Christine (Chris) Ring Ph.D. serves as Senior Vice President, and Chief Intellectual Property Counsel for Amyris Inc. She leads Amyris technology strategy and licensing activities. She has served as Chief Intellectual Property Counsel since August 2006, and Senior Vice President for Technology Strategy & Licensing since January 2012. Prior to Amyris, she was the Director of Intellectual Property at Sunesis Pharmaceuticals, Inc. and was Senior Patent Attorney at Kosan Biosciences. Before becoming in-house counsel, she began her legal career in private practice, most recently as Senior Attorney at Pillsbury Madison & Sutro (now Pillsbury Winthrop Shaw & Pittman). She has a J.D. from Hastings College of the Law, a Ph. D. in Pharmaceutical Chemistry from University of California, San Francisco, and an A.B. in Biophysics from University of California, Berkeley.

Joel Velasco

Mr. Joel Velasco serves as Senior Vice President for Amyris Inc. He leads Amyris investor relations, external communications, and public policy. He joined Amyris in January 2011 from the Brazilian Sugarcane Industry Association (UNICA) where as Chief Representative in North America he led UNICA's efforts to expand international biofuel and sugar markets. Prior to joining UNICA, he was managing director of Albright Stonebridge, and previously served as senior advisor to the U.S. Ambassador to Brazil and as a personal aide to Vice President Al Gore in the White House. Mr. Velasco received an M.A. from the Georgetown University School of Foreign Service, focusing his studies on the political-economy of the Southern Cone, and a B.A. in Political Science from Hampden-Sydney College in Virginia.

Jack Newman

Dr. Jack Newman Ph.D. serves as Chief Science Officer for Amyris Inc. He co-founded Amyris with over a decade of experience researching bacterial physiology and genetics. In addition to publishing in molecular biology and biotechnology journals, he co-authored the groundbreaking work underlying the technology of microbial terpene production. Dr. Newman received his doctorate from the University of Wisconsin, Madison, in the field of microbial physiology and gene regulation, and a B.A. in molecular and cellular biology from the University of California, Berkeley.

Gary Loeb

Mr. Gary Loeb serves as Senior Vice President, General Counsel and Corporate Secretary for Amyris Inc. He joined Amyris in 2011 as Senior Corporate and Regulatory Counsel and became General Counsel and Corporate Secretary in May 2012. Previously, he was Vice President of Intellectual Property at Genentech, Inc., where he most recently served as the senior-most attorney under General Counsel, overseeing a team of more than 90 employees, including 30 attorneys, and serving as Chief Litigation and Intellectual Property Officer among other positions with the company. Prior to joining Genentech in 2000, he practiced general intellectual property law in Los Angeles and San Francisco. Mr. Loeb holds a J.D. from the Columbia Law School and B.S. on Biological Sciences from Stanford University. He is also an Adjunct Professor at the University of San Francisco School of Law, where he lectures on biotechnology law.

Charles Kraft

Mr. Charles Kraft serves as Vice President, Global Manufacturing & Process Development for Amyris Inc. He leads Amyris global manufacturing and process development operations. He has three decades of experience in specialty fermentation. Prior to joining Amyris, he was Vice President of Operations, and earlier Vice President of Engineering, at DuPont Tate and Lyle BioProducts, a joint venture producing 1, 3-propanediol (Bio-PDO) via fermentation of plant-based sugars. Previously, for nearly two decades, he held a number of operational positions at Tate & Lyle's citric acid production facility in the United States. He holds MBA and B.S. Degrees from the University of Dayton, Ohio.

Zanna McFerson

Ms. Zanna McFerson serves as Chief Business Officer for Amyris Inc. She leads business development, commercial and product line activities. Prior to joining Amyris, she was Vice President of Cargill and Business Director of Truvia. In this position, she directed a global team with resources across research and development, agronomy, supply chain, scientific and regulatory affairs, sales and marketing. She has played a role in fundamentally changing the sugar substitute industry by creating consumer demand for a novel sweetener and in forming a trade group, The International Stevia Council, where she most recently served as President. During her tenure, the business received numerous awards in the area of technology, public relations and marketing while lauded for its sustainability efforts. A native of Finland, she joined Cargill in 1990 as a commodity trader and held various roles in sales, business management, and new product development at Cargill. She received a bachelor’s degree in Economics from the University of Illinois and a Masters of Business Administration from the University of Iowa.

Arthur Levinson

Dr. Arthur D. Levinson, Ph.D., is Lead Independent Director of Amyris Inc. He has been a member of the Board since April 2010 and has served as Lead Independent Director since March 2011. He has been an advisor to the Research and Early Development Center and a member of the Scientific Resource Board of Genentech, Inc., a biotechnology company, since May 2009. Previously, he served as Chief Executive Officer of Genentech, Inc. from 1995 to April 2009. He has served as Chairman of the board of directors of Genentech, Inc. since 1999, and also as Chairman of the boards of directors of Apple, Inc. since November 2011 (and as a member since 2000), Hoffman La Roche, Inc. since March 2010 and NGM Biopharmaceutical, Inc. since October 2009. He previously served on the board of directors of Google Inc. from 2004 to October 2009. Dr. Levinson has also been a member of the U.S. Department of Commerce Innovation Advisory Board since May 2011. He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Biology from the University of Washington, Seattle and a Doctor of Philosophy degree in Biochemical Sciences from Princeton University.

Nam-Hai Chua

Prof. Nam-Hai W. Chua, Ph.D. has been appointed as Director of Amyris, Inc., with effect from June 15, 2012. He is a Professor and Head of the Laboratory of Plant Molecular Biology at Rockefeller University. Professor Chua was a Director of Delta and Pine Land (USA) from 1993 until it was sold to Monsanto in 2007. He was also a director of Arpida Ltd (Muenchenstein, Switzerlad) from 2004-2008 and served as chairman of its compensation committee from 2006-2008. He has been a director of Temasek Life Sciences Laboratory, Singapore, and chairman of its Strategic Research Program since 2003. Dr. Chua received his Ph.D. from Harvard University.

Geoffrey Duyk

Dr. Geoffrey Duyk, M.D., Ph.D. has been re-designated as Director of Amyris, Inc., effective May 3, 2012. He is a partner of TPG Growth, LLC, an affiliate of TPG Biotechnology Partners II, L.P. Previously, he served on the board of directors and was President of Research and Development at Exelixis, Inc., a biopharmaceutical company focusing on drug discovery, from 1996 to 2003. Prior to Exelixis, he was Vice President of Genomics and one of the founding scientific staff at Millennium Pharmaceuticals, from 1993 to 1996. Before that, he was an Assistant Professor at Harvard Medical School in the Department of Genetics and Assistant Investigator of the Howard Hughes Medical Institute. He serves on the boards of directors of several private companies and the non-profit Wesleyan University Board of Trustees. He served on the board of directors of Agria Corporation from August 2007 to May 2009, Cardiovascular Systems, Inc. (formerly Replidyne, Inc.) from 2004 to February 2009, Exelixis, Inc. from 1996 to 2003. Dr. Duyk holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Biology from Wesleyan University and Doctor of Philosophy and Medicine degrees from Case Western Reserve University.

R. Neil Williams

Mr. R. Neil Williams has been appointed as Director of Amyris, Inc., effective May 9, 2013. Mr. Williams was also appointed as the Chair of the Audit Committee. He has been Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of Intuit, Inc. since January 2008. Mr. Williams has a thirty-year career in the financial services industry. At Intuit, he has been responsible for all financial aspects of the company, including corporate strategy and business development, investor relations, financial operations and real estate. Before joining Intuit, Williams was the Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer for Visa U.S.A., Inc. In that role, he led all financial functions for the company and its subsidiaries, including financial planning, business planning and financial monitoring. His previous banking experience includes senior financial positions at commercial banks in the Southern and Midwest regions of the United States. Williams, a certified public accountant, received his bachelor's degree in business administration from the University of Southern Mississippi.

Ralph Alexander

Mr. Ralph C. Alexander is Independent Director of Amyris, Inc., since May 2007. He has been a Managing Director at Riverstone Holdings, LLC, an energy and power-focused private equity firm, since September 2007. Previously, he served in various senior management positions with affiliates and subsidiaries of BP Plc (formerly British Petroleum), most recently as Chief Executive Officer of Innovene, BP’s olefins and derivatives subsidiary, from 2004 to December 2005, as Chief Executive Officer of BP’s Gas, Power and Renewables and Solar segment from 2001 to 2004, and as a Group Vice President in BP’s Exploration and Production segment and BP’s Refinery and Marketing segment. He has served on the board of directors of Stein Mart, Inc. since August 2007. He previously served on the boards of directors Anglo-American Plc from April 2005 to October 2007 and of Foster Wheeler from May 2006 to February 2007. He is chairman of the board of Polytechnic University. Mr. Alexander holds a Bachelor of Science degree and a Master of Science degree in Nuclear Engineering from Brooklyn Polytech (now Polytechnic Institute of New York University), and a Master of Science degree in Management Science from Stanford University.

Abdullah Bin Khalifa Al Thani

H. H. Sheikh Abdullah Bin Khalifa Al Thani is Independent Director of Amyris, Inc., since March 15, 2012. His Highness has served as Special Advisor to the Emir since his appointment in April 2007, and was Prime Minister of Qatar from October 1996 to April 2007. His Highness has served as Chairman of the board of directors of Qatar Investment and Projects Development Holding Company, a Qatari investment group, since March 2011 and as Chairman of the board of directors of Specialized International Services (SIS) Qatar, a business investment company, since October 2011. His Highness graduated from the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst.

Philippe Boisseau

Mr. Philippe Boisseau is Independent Director of Amyris, Inc., since November 2010. He has served as President, Supply-Marketing and a member of the Executive Committee of Total S.A., since January 2012. Previously, he served as President of the Gas & Power division of Total from February 2007 to December 2011. He also previously served as a member of Total’s Management Committee since January 2005. He served as President, Middle East of Total’s Exploration & Production division between 2002 and February 2007 and, before that, as General Manager of Total Austral in Argentina from 1999 to 2002. From 1995 to 1999, he worked in several management positions within the Refining and Marketing division in the U.S. and France. At the beginning of his career, he served in various positions within French government ministries He graduated from the French engineering school Ecole Polytechnique and also has a DEA (master’s degree) in particle physics from the Ecole Normale Supérieure.

John Doerr

Mr. John Doerr is Independent Director of Amyris, Inc., since May 2006. Mr. Doerr has been a Partner at Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers, since 1980. He serves on the board of directors of Google Inc., as well as on the boards of directors of several private companies. Previously, Mr. Doerr served on the boards of directors of Amazon.com, Inc., drugstore.com, Inc., Move, Inc. (formerly Homestore.com, Inc.), palmOne, Inc. and Sun Microsystems, Inc. Ms. Carole Piwnica is Independent Director of Amyris, Inc., since September 2009. She has been Director of NAXOS UK, since January 2008. Previously, she served as a director, from 1996 to July 2006, and Vice-Chairman of Governmental Affairs, from 2000 to 2006, of Tate & Lyle Plc. She was a chairman of Amylum Group, from 1996 to 2000. From 1992 to 1996, she held general management positions and board memberships in various other European food companies, including Cacao Barry and Vital Sogéviandes. She was a member of the board of directors of Aviva plc, from May 2003 to December 2011, a member of the board of directors of Dairy Crest from 2007 until 2010, and a member of the board of directors of Toepfer Gmbh from 1996 until 2010. In 2010, she was appointed as a member of the boards of Louis Delhaize (retail, Belgium), Eutelsat (satellites, France) and Sanofi (pharmaceuticals, France). Ms. Piwnica holds a Law degree from the Université Libre de Bruxelles and a Master of Laws degree from New York University. She has also been a member of the bar associations of the state of New York, USA and of Paris, France, since 1985 and 1988, respectively.

Fernando Reinach

Dr. Fernando de Castro Reinach, Ph.D., is Independent Director of Amyris, Inc., since September 2008. He has been a managing partner of Pitanga Fund, since May 2011 and has served as a consultant to Votorantim Novos Negócios Ltda., the private equity arm of Votorantim Group, since June 2010. From 2001 to May 2010, he was a General Partner at Votorantim Novos Negócios Ltda. Before joining Votorantim, he was involved in the creation of two companies, Genomic Engenharia Molecular Ltda., a molecular diagnostic laboratory, and .ComDominio S/A, a datacenter company. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in biology from the University of São Paulo and a Doctor of Philosophy degree in Cell and Molecular Biology from Cornell University Medical College.
