Biographies

Name Description

Evanson Mwaniki

Mr. Evanson Mwaniki has served as Non-Executive Chairman of the Board of Directors of British American Tobacco Kenya Ltd since November 1995 and as Non-Executive Member of the Board of Directors of the Company since April 1995. He also serves as Chairman of the Nominations Committee and Member of the Remuneration Committee of the Company. He currently sits on the Boards of East African Breweries Limited, East African Packaging Industries Limited, Lion of Kenya Insurance Company Limited and Kenya Airways Limited.

Philip Lopokoiyit

Mr. Philip Lopokoiyit has been Finance Director and Director for British American Tobacco Kenya Ltd since November 2010. He was previously the BAT West Africa Area Finance Director, based in Lagos. He has experience in financial management and has served in senior management over the last 10 years as Head of Finance in several BAT business units. He is a member of the Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Kenya (ICPAK), a fellow member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of England and Wales and holds Masters of Business Administration degree from Warwick Business School.

Chris Burrell

Mr. Chris Burrell has served as Managing Director of British American Tobacco Kenya Ltd since June 1, 2013. Prior to joining the Company, he was based in Cairo, Egypt, where was Area Director in charge of North Africa. He has also been General Manager for the Suisse unit. He has more than three decades’ experience in the tobacco industry. He has previously worked in Nairobi where he was the Area Director in charge of East Africa from July 2001 and later took charge of Equatorial Africa in a similar position between 2004 and 2006.

Mr. Wael Atari serves as Head of Marketing at British American Tobacco Kenya Ltd since April 2011. He joined the Company in January 2001 as Trade Marketing Area Manager. He has held various senior marketing management roles in North Africa including most recently Head of Marketing in Algeria.

Mr. Arturo Rodriguez has served as Demand Chain General Manager at British American Tobacco Kenya Ltd since March 2011. He joined the Group in November in 1995 as a Production Engineer. He has held various management roles in Operations in Mexico, Germany and most recently as Manufacturing Manager in Heidelberg, South Africa.

Mr. Dennis Wasike is Head of Audit for British American Tobacco Kenya Ltd. He was also appointed Secretary to the Board’s Audit Committee.

R. Ngobi

Ms. R. T. Ngobi has served as Company Secretary of British American Tobacco Kenya Ltd since August 2002. She also serves as Secretary to the Board’s Nominations Committee. She was educated in both Kenya and the United Kingdom and qualified as a lawyer in 1985. She previously worked with Unilever Kenya Limited for 15 years as Company Secretary with responsibilities for legal support and services to Unilever’s operations in Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania and Ethiopia. She was Area Legal Counsel for BAT East and Central Africa Area until June 2010 when she retired from full time employment with the Company but retained her role as Company Secretary. She also serves as Member of the Nominations Committee for BAT.

Jonathan Ciano

Dr. Jonathan Ciano has served as Member of the Board of Directors at British American Tobacco Kenya Ltd since July 5, 2012. He is currently the Group Chief Executive Officer of Uchumi Supermarkets. He brings over 25 years of experience in Regional and International management. Dr. Ciano holds a Bachelors of Commerce degree in Finance, a MBA in Strategy and Finance and a honorary doctorate in humanities. He is a Fellow of Certified Public Accountant and a Fellow of KIM. He is the Chair of ICPAK Disciplinary and is a Board member of the Nairobi Securities Exchange Limited and Investeq Capital Limited.

Gary Fagan

Mr. Gary Fagan has served as Member of the Board of Directors of British American Tobacco Kenya Ltd since September 1, 2008. He served as Managing Director of the Company until June 1, 2013. Prior to his appointment, he was the General Manager of BAT Southern African Markets. He began his career with BAT 20 years ago in Marketing and has filled various senior management roles within BAT Africa and Middle East region over the years. He is also currently the Area Director for BAT East and Central Africa Area based in Nairobi.

M. Janmohamed

Mr. M. Janmohamed has been Member of the Board of Directors at British American Tobacco Kenya Ltd since November 1, 2012. Additionally, Mr. Mohamed serves as Managing Director of Serena Hotels Africa and as Head of the Tourism Department for Aga Khan Fund for Economic Development (AKFED) and is responsible for 35 Hotels, Lodges and Safari resorts located in 9 countries in Africa and Asia. Mr. Janmohamed’s work experience includes Senior Management positions in Europe and Africa. He is the Founder Chairman of the Kenya Tourism Federation and a Trustee of the East African Wildlife Society. He is a Director on the Kenya Tourism Board and Kenya Land Conservation Trust. He is also a member on the Eastern Africa Association Advisory Council.

George Maina

Mr. George A. Maina has been Non-Executive Director for British American Tobacco Kenya Ltd since November 2010. He is an engineer by profession. He worked with the Shell Group of Companies for 26 years during which time he served in senior management in Kenya, Jamaica and Ghana. In 1998, he was appointed Managing Director of Kenya Shell and BP Kenya Ltd before leaving corporate employment to pursue private business in 2004. He holds directorships in NIC Bank, Insurance Company of East Africa, Afrika Investment Bank, Faulu Kenya Limited and Nairobi Stock Exchange. He is also a Trustee of Starehe Boys Centre, Africa Conservation Centre and Gertrude Gardens Children’s Hospital.

Teddy Mapunda

Ms. Teddy Hollo Mapunda has served as Non-Executive Director of British American Tobacco Kenya Ltd since October 1, 2014. She is the founder of Montage Limited, a consultancy and creative agency based in Tanzania. She has over 20 years of leadership experience in public relations, customer service, administration and sales.

Mr. Gayling R. May has served as Non-Executive Director for British American Tobacco Kenya Ltd since September 2005. He has accounting background and is Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales.
