| Young, William | Mr. William D. Young has been appointed as Chairman of Biogen Idec Inc. effective January 1, 2010. Mr. Young is Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Monogram Biosciences, Inc., a provider of molecular diagnostic products. Mr. Young has served as Chief Executive Officer of Monogram Biosciences, Inc. since November 1999 and Chairman of the Board since May 1998. From 1997 to October 1999, he served as Chief Operating Officer of Genentech, Inc. Mr. Young joined Genentech in 1980 as Director of Manufacturing and Process Sciences and became Vice President in 1983. He was promoted to various positions and in 1997 became Chief Operating Officer taking on the responsibilities for all development, operations, and sales and marketing activities. Prior to joining Genentech, Mr. Young was with Eli Lilly & Co. for 14 years. Mr. Young has served as one of the company's directors since 1997. He is also a director of Monogram Biosciences, Inc. and Theravance, Inc. Mr. Young was elected to the National Academy of Engineering in 1993 for his contributions to biotechnology and received an Honorary Doctorate in Engineering from Purdue University in 2000. |

| Lytton, Michael | Mr. Michael E. Lytton is Executive Vice President - Business and Corporate Development of Biogen Idec Inc. From 2001 to 2009, Mr. Lytton served as a General Partner at Oxford Bioscience Partners, a venture capital firm that provides equity financing and general management assistance to emerging life sciences companies. During his tenure, Mr. Lytton led or co-led a dozen investments in a range of therapeutic areas, including central nervous system disorders, inflammatory diseases and oncology. He worked successfully with management and boards of portfolio companies to drive growth through restructurings, M&A and exits through sales to larger companies. From 1993 to 2000, he was Partner, Chairman of the Technology Group, and a member of the Executive Committee of Palmer & Dodge LLP, a Boston-based law firm (now Edwards Angell Palmer & Dodge). While there, he negotiated multiple M&A transactions, corporate partnerships and licensing deals. Mr. Lytton is a graduate of Princeton University and recipient of a Fulbright Scholarship for study at the University of London.
