Name Description
Waugh, Richard Richard E. Waugh serves as President, Chief Executive Officer, Director of The Bank of Nova Scotia. He is Director since March 25, 2003. He began his career with Scotiabank in Winnipeg in 1970 as a branch employee and, over the years, has served in the Bank’s investment, corporate, international and retail banking areas. Mr. Waugh has a Bachelor of Commerce (Honours) degree from the University of Manitoba, a M.B.A. from York University and Honorary Doctorates from Assumption University and York University. He is also a Fellow of the Institute of Canadian Bankers. Mr. Waugh serves on the boards of several of the Bank’s international subsidiaries. Mr. Waugh also participates and is active on a number of philanthropic boards and organizations. Mr. Waugh served as a director of Inco Limited during the period from July 2005 to October 2006, and did not serve as a director of any other publicly-traded companies during the period from 2003 to 2007. Marwah, Sarabjit Mr. Sarabjit S. Marwah has been appointed as Vice Chairman, Chief Operating Officer of The Bank of Nova Scotia. He was Chief Administrative Officer of the Company. He is responsible for financial control and reporting, investor relations, taxation, audit, general counsel, market risk, real estate, and strategic sourcing across the Scotiabank Group. Sabi joined Scotiabank in Toronto as a financial analyst in the Bank's Finance Department in 1979. Over the years, he held successively more senior positions within the Finance Department, including Deputy Comptroller, General Manager, Senior Vice-President and Comptroller, and Executive Vice-President. He was appointed CFO in 1998. Mr. Marwah is a member of the Board of Directors of several Scotiabank subsidiaries, Torstar Corporation and the Humber River Regional Hospital.
Vanneste, Luc Luc Vanneste is Executive Vice-President and Chief Financial Officer of Bank of Nova Scotia. Mr. Vanneste joined Scotiabank in 1999 as Senior Vice-President and Chief Auditor, where he was instrumental in developing and introducing new strategies to execute the Audit Group's mandate in a constantly changing environment. He was appointed Executive Vice-President in October 2003. Prior to joining the Bank, Luc spent 24 years with KPMG, where he served most recently as a partner, focusing on banking and finance. Luc has been active with the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Ontario since 1986, including serving as Chairman of the Board from 1994 to 1996. He is currently a member of the Foundation's Audit Committee and the Centre for Stroke Recovery Advisory Board. Alexander, Deborah Deborah M. Alexander serves as Executive Vice-President, General Counsel and Secretary of The Bank of Nova Scotia. She has responsibility for managing the Bank's legal affairs worldwide, overseeing compliance for the Bank, and acting as Corporate Secretary. Deborah joined Scotiabank in June 2002. Prior to this, she was a senior partner in the Business Law Department at Osler, Hoskin & Harcourt LLP. Her practice focused on securities financing transactions, mergers and acquisitions in the Canadian, U.S. and international capital markets, and transactions relating to Canadian financial institutions. Deborah has been a member of the Securities Advisory Committee to the Ontario Securities Commission, and has lectured in various areas of securities law, including lectures in the United States and Canada. In 2003 and again in 2004, Deborah was named to the Top 100 List of Canada's Most Powerful Women by the Women's Executive Network and the University of Western Ontario's Richard Ivey School of Business. She is a member of the Board of Governors for Crescent School, on the fundraising committee for Bloorview MacMillan Centre and a past Director of the National Ballet of Canada. Deborah graduated from Queen's University in 1972 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics. She received her Bachelor of Laws degree from the University of Toronto in 1975, and was called to the Ontario Bar in 1977. She is a member of the American Bar Association, the Canadian Bar Association and the Law Society of Upper Canada.
Heath, Jeffrey Jeffrey Heath has been appointed as Executive Vice President, Group Treasurer of Bank of Nova Scotia. Mr. Heath, a chartered accountant, is currently the senior vice-president and head, risk policy and capital markets. In his new role, he will be responsible for managing the Scotiabank Group's treasury and investment operations on a global basis, including the bank's public and private investment portfolios, medium-term and capital financing, and overall asset and liability management. Mr. Heath joined ScotiaMcLeod as treasurer in 1985 and has held progressively more senior positions within risk management.
Hannam, Wendy Ms. Wendy Hannam has been appointed as Executive Vice-President, Sales and Service, Products and Marketing, International Banking of Teh Bank of Nova Scotia effective September 1, 2009. He had been Executive Vice President - Personal Banking and Distribution, Canada of The Bank of Nova Scotia. Ms. Hannam will oversee strategy development, channel optimization, sales and service design and execution, marketing, and product support, for international banking. Ms. Hannam joined Scotiabank in 1983 as a Commercial Account Manager. She has held progressively senior positions in Commercial Banking, Risk Management, Product Management, Regional Sales Management and Domestic Sales and Service. She was most recently Executive Vice-President, Domestic Branch Banking. Ms. Hannam holds a Bachelor of Commerce (Honours) degree from Memorial University and a Masters of Business Administration from the University of Toronto (1983). In 2003, she completed the Advanced Management Programme at INSEAD. Ms. Hannam is a member of the Board of Scotia Securities Inc. Hayward, Timothy Timothy P. Hayward is Executive Vice-President and Chief Administrative Officer, International Banking of The Bank of Nova. He brings an extensive breadth of experience to Scotiabank's executive team. Mr. Hayward joined Scotiabank in 1979, following a five-year career with Touche Ross. During his career at the Bank, Tim has held posts of increasing responsibility. In 1996, he became Senior Vice-President, Operations and Finance, Mexico Regional Office. Concurrently, he served as Deputy Managing Director at Inverlat, Scotiabank's Mexican affiliate. Following his return to Canada in 1999, Mr. Hayward undertook the role of Senior Vice-President and Chief Administrative Officer, International Banking. Jentsch, Dieter Mr. Dieter W. Jentsch has been appointed as Executive Vice-President, Latin America of The Bank of Nova Scotia effective September 1, 2009. Mr. Jentsch is responsible for Scotiabank's Latin American operations, including Central America, and for the Spanish-speaking countries in the Caribbean. He had been Executive Vice President - Commercial Banking, Canada of The Bank of Nova Scotia. He also served as Regional Senior Vice-President, Domestic Branch Banking, Toronto Region, and Senior Vice-President, Canadian Commercial Banking. Dieter holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Agriculture, a Master of Business Administration degree, and a diploma from the Advanced Management Programme at INSEAD (European Institute of Business). He is a professional agrologist and a Fellow of the Institute of Canadian Bankers. Mr. Jentsch is also a board member of the Ontario Chamber of Commerce.
Cefis, Alberta Alberta G. Cefis serves as Executive Vice- President and Group Head, Global Transaction Banking of The Bank of Nova Scotia. She is Executive Vice-President, Retail Lending Services, and President & CEO of Scotia Mortgage Corporation. She is responsible for consumer and small business lending including: mortgages; credit cards; retail loans; automotive finance (for both retail and commercial segments) and indirect lending; risk management; and, integrated business solutions. Alberta joined Scotiabank in 1999. She has extensive experience in the Canadian financial services industry, in the areas of retail banking, wealth management, business banking, operations and service delivery, marketing, strategic planning and organizational development. In 2003 and 2004, Alberta was named to the Top 100 List of Canada's Most Powerful Women by the Women's Executive Network and the University of Western Ontario's Richard Ivey School of Business. Alberta has co-authored a book, with Scotiabank colleague Roberta Hague, entitled The Truth About Mortgages How To Make The Most Of Your Borrowing Power (now in its second edition). Ms. Cefis is multilingual, and graduated from McGill University with both a Bachelor of Arts, Joint Honours degree in Political Science & Literature, and a Master in Business Administration. McKenzie, Kimberlee Kimberlee B. McKenzie is Executive Vice-President, Information Technology and Solutions of The Bank of Nova Scotia. Based in Toronto, she is responsible for providing information technology services across the Scotiabank Group. Ms. McKenzie joined Scotiabank in 1986 and has held progressively senior positions in Finance, Integrated Support Services and International Banking. Prior to her appointment to Executive Vice-President in December 2005, Ms. McKenzie was Senior Vice-President, International Banking, responsible for information technology services throughout the Caribbean, Central America and Asia. In 2006, Ms. McKenzie was named to the Top 100 List of Canada's Most Powerful Women by the Women's Executive Network and the Richard Ivey School of Business. Ms. McKenzie has a Bachelor of Science degree (Honours) in Computer Science and a Master of Business Administration in Finance from Queen's University, Kingston, Ont.
Mason, Barbara Ms. Barbara F. Mason Executive Vice-President, Wealth Management, Canada of The Bank of Nova Scotia. Ms. Mason is responsible for continuing to grow Scotiabank's wealth management franchise, which incorporates the key personal investment and advisory activities within the Bank's domestic operations, including brokerage, retail investments and private client services. Prior to her current appointment in May 2006, Ms.Mason was Executive Vice-President, Marketing, Sales & Service. She joined the Bank in 1982 and has held progressively senior roles in retail banking, card products, marketing, sales and service, and has also been instrumental in the development of the Scotiabank corporate brand. Ms. Mason graduated from the University of Waterloo with a Bachelor of Environmental Studies (honours), and is also a graduate of the Queen's University. Von Hahn, Anatol Mr. Anatol Von Hahn has been appointed as Executive Vice President - Personal and Commercial Banking, Canada of The Bank of Nova Scotia effective September 1, 2009. He had been Executive Vice-President, Latin America of The Bank of Nova Scotia. Mr. von Hahn will be responsible for retail, small business and commercial banking in Canada. Anatol joined Scotiabank in Toronto in 1984 and, over the years, has worked in various positions in both Domestic and International Banking. In 1987, he became Managing Director and Country Head for Singapore. He moved to Chile in 1990 as Special Advisor to the General Manager and Alternate Director of Banco Sud Americano (now Scotiabank Sud Americano), and went to Argentina in 1995 to oversee the Bank’s operations there. He arrived at Scotiabank Inverlat in Mexico in 2000, rising to his most recent role as President and CEO, Grupo Scotiabank, Mexico, in 2003. Mr. Von Hahn has a Bachelor of Commerce degree from Concordia University, and participated in the Advanced Management Program at Harvard University. While in Mexico, he sat on numerous boards, including Ronald McDonald - Mexico, Young President Organization (YPO) Mexico, and the Finance Committee of the ABC Hospital. He also was the Vice-Chairman of the Mexican Bankers Association from 2005 to 2007.
Hart, Stephen Mr. Stephen Hart is Executive Vice President, Chief Credit Officer of The Bank of Nova Scotia. He first joined Scotiabank over 30 years ago and has since held a number of progressively senior management positions. He has a tremendous depth of experience in credit risk, portfolio management and U.S. corporate banking.

Chrominska, Sylvia Sylvia Chrominska serves as Group Head - Global Human Resources and Communications of The Bank of Nova Scotia. She has global responsibility for human resources, corporate communications, government relations, public policy and corporate social responsibility of the Scotiabank Group. Sylvia joined Scotiabank in 1979 as a Credit Analyst in Corporate Credit. She held progressively more senior positions over the next decade until being appointed Senior Vice-President, Corporate Credit, with responsibility for Eastern Canada, Eastern United States, Europe and Japan. In 1994, she transferred to the Human Resources department, where she was appointed Executive Vice-President in 1995. In 2004, her mandate was expanded to include Public, Corporate and Government Affairs. Sylvia is a member of the Board of Dofasco Inc., and Chair of the Human Resources Committee of the Canadian Bankers Association. Her community activities include serving on the Board of Sheena's Place and as Vice-President of the Canadian Club of Toronto. She previously served on the Board of Goodwill Industries of Toronto and the Rehabilitation Institute of Toronto Foundation, and is also a former chairperson of the Board of Governors of The Institute of Canadian Bankers. Hodgson, Christopher Christopher J. Hodgson serves as Group Head, Canadian Banking of The Bank of Nova Scotia. Prior to that time, Chris spent 16 years with ScotiaMcLeod, where his last position was Managing Director, Private Client Financial Services. Mr. Hodgson received his Bachelor of Arts from Darmouth College in 1977. He has been a Fellow of the Canadian Securities Institute since 1982, and is registered as a trading officer with the Investment Dealers Association and appropriate provincial securities commissions. Mr. Hodgson is past Chair of the Providence Healthcare Board of Directors.
Pitfield, Robert Robert H. Pitfield serves as Group Head, International Banking of The Bank of Nova Scotia. He is responsible for all of the Bank's retail and commercial operations outside of Canada. Mr. Pitfield joined the Commercial Banking operations of Scotiabank in 1983. Over the years, he has worked in various positions in Commercial and Retail Banking. In 1990, he was promoted to Senior Vice-President, Card Products and Marketing, and the following year, he also took on responsibility for Retail Marketing. In 1996, Mr. Pitfield was appointed Senior Vice-President, International Banking, responsible for the Caribbean and Central America. In 1998, he returned to Retail Products and Marketing as Executive Vice-President. He was appointed Executive Vice-President and Group Head, Wealth Management, responsible for Scotiabank's domestic wealth management operations, in 1999. He returned to International Banking and his current position in 2003. Mr. Pitfield holds directorships with several of Scotiabank's subsidiaries and affiliates. He was Chairman of the Finance Division of the United Way in 2001, and is currently a Director of the Toronto Rehabilitation Institute Foundation. At the University of Ottawa, Mr. Pitfield serves as a member of the National Campaign Cabinet and the Common Law Campaign Cabinet. He is also a member of the Board of Directors for the EDGE Network on the Emerging, Dynamic Global Economies. He was inducted into the Common Law Honour Society in 2006. Mr. Pitfield has a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) from the University of Toronto. He earned his law degree from the University of Ottawa, and he is a member of the Law Society of Upper Canada.
Porter, Brian Mr. Brian J. Porter has been appointed as Group Head - Risk and Treasury of The Bank of Nova Scotia. He was Executive Vice-President and Chief Risk Officer of the Company. Mr. Porter will continue to oversee the global management of credit, market and operational risk for the bank, and will also assume responsibility for treasury. Over 25 years, Mr. Porter has held a variety of management positions, including deputy chairman, Scotia Capital Inc. Mr. Porter is also past chairman of the Investment Dealers Association of Canada (IDA). In addition, he is a Director of Invest in Kids, a Director of the Atlantic Salmon Federation and a member of the Faculty of Management Board of Advisors, Dalhousie University. Mr. Porter received a Bachelor of Commerce degree from Dalhousie University.
O'Donovan, Anne Ms. Anne Marie O'Donovan has been appointed Executive Vice-President and Chief Administration Officer, Scotia Capital of The Bank of Nova Scotia effective September 1, 2009. Ms. O'Donovan will oversee finance and operations, including global wholesale services, for Scotia Capital.
Brenneman, Ronald Ronald A. Brenneman serves as Director of The Bank of Nova Scotia since March 28, 2000. Mr. Brenneman is President and Chief Executive Officer of Petro-Canada, an oil and gas company. His career in the oil and gas industry began in 1969, during which time he has held positions with Imperial Oil Limited, Exxon Corporation and Petro-Canada. He holds a B.Sc. (in chemical engineering) from the University of Toronto and a M.Sc. (in control systems) from the University of Manchester. Kirby, Michael The Honourable Michael J.L. Kirby serves as a Director of The Bank of Nova Scotia since March 28, 2000. Samarasekera, Indira Dr. Indira V. Samarasekera has been appointed to the Board of Bank of Nova Scotia. Dr. Samarasekera is the University of Alberta's 12th president and the province's first female university head. Born in Colombo, Sri Lanka, she is an officer of the Order of Canada, a fellow of the Royal Society of Canada, a fellow of the Canadian Academy of Engineering and a fellow of the Canadian Institute of Mining, Metallurgical and Petroleum Engineers (CIMM).
