Name Description
Bischoff, Manfred Dr. Manfred Bischoff is Chairman of the Supervisory Board at Daimler AG. He has held this position since April 4, 2007 and first joined the Company’s Supervisory Board on April 12, 2006. After gaining a degree in Economics, he worked from 1968 to 1976 as an assistant at the Alfred Weber Institute, University of Heidelberg (Ruprecht-Karls-Universitaet Heidelberg) where he was also awarded a doctorate in 1973. In 1976, Dr. Bischoff joined Daimler-Benz AG as project coordinator for the alliance with Steyr-Daimler-Puch, with special responsibility for the cross-country vehicle Mercedes-Benz G-Class. In 1981, he was given responsibility for equity investments, mergers & acquisitions in the finance department where he became departmental head in 1985. In 1988, Dr. Bischoff joined the Board of Management of Mercedes-Benz do Brasil as Chief Financial Officer. In 1989, he was appointed to the Board of Management of Deutsche Aerospace (subsequently DaimlerChrysler Aerospace AG) as Chief Financial Officer and in 1995 became Chairman of the Board of Management of Daimler-Benz Aerospace (subsequently DaimlerChrysler Aerospace AG) and a member of the Board of Management of Daimler-Benz AG. Following the establishment of the European Aeronautic Defense and Space Company (EADS) in 2000, Dr. Bischoff became its chairman. On December 15, 2003, Dr. Bischoff stepped down from the Board of Management of DaimlerChrysler AG. On April 5, 2007, Dr. Bischoff stepped down from his offices at EADS. Zetsche, Dieter Dr. Dieter Zetsche is Chairman of the Management Board and Head of Mercedes Car Group at Daimler AG. Dr. Dieter Zetsche has been a member of the Board of Management of Daimler AG since December 16, 1998, and Chairman of the Board of Management of Daimler AG since January 1, 2006. He is Head of Mercedes-Benz Cars Division which includes passenger cars of the brands Mercedes-Benz, Maybach and smart as well as Mercedes-Benz AMG and Mercedes-Benz McLaren. Klemm, Erich Mr. Erich Klemm is Vice Chairman of the Supervisory Board and Employee Representative at Daimler AG. He has been a Member of the Company’s Supervisory Board since 1998. He trained from 1970 to 1973 as an apprentice machine fitter at Daimler-Benz AG's Sindelfingen plant. He subsequently worked from 1973 to 1978 as a machine fitter in the process design section at the Sindelfingen plant. He then attended external further education courses to gain a qualification in human resources, and completed a REFA training course. Schwaab, Stefan Mr. Stefan Schwaab is a Member of the Supervisory Board and Employee Representative at Daimler AG. He has held this position since 2000. He attended elementary school and high school in Gaggenau, then completed a vocational apprenticeship as a machine fitter in 1971. He attended evening classes between 1974 and 1976 and gained a degree in Mechanical Engineering. He was subsequently employed in a range of managerial positions. He rejoined Daimler-Benz AG in Gaggenau in 1981 and has been a Works Council member since 1987. He was elected deputy chairman of the Works Council in 1994, and deputy chairman of the General Works Council in 2001, followed by deputy chairman of the European Works Council in 2002. Flegel, Heinrich Prof. Dr. Heinrich A. Flegel is a Member of the Supervisory Board and Employee Representative at Daimler AG. He has held this position since 2003. From 1969, he studied Mechanical Engineering at RWTH Aachen University (Rheinisch-Westfaelische Technische Hochschule Aachen). In 1974, he received a diploma in Mechanical Engineering in the field of Manufacturing Technologies at RWTH Aachen University. From 1975 he was a scientific assistant at the Institute for Computer Applications in Planning and Construction at Karlsruhe University (Universitaet Karlsruhe). In 1979 he received his Ph.D. in Applied Computer Science from Karlsruhe University. He started his business career in 1978 at Daimler-Benz AG as a specialist in factory equipment construction at the Sindelfingen plant. In 1982 he took up a position as Senior Manager in the Process Engineering department responsible for CAD/CAM development in the Sindelfingen assembly plant, and by 1984 he was responsible for CAD/CAM development for all assembly plants. From 1988 to 1992 he held the position of Director of Mechanical Engineering at the Sindelfingen assembly plant. In 1993 he became Director of Process Engineering. Since 1998 he has been Director of Research Manufacturing and Materials Technology in Stuttgart. In 1990 he received a lectureship of the Faculty for Construction and Manufacturing Technologies at Stuttgart University for the sector Development of tools for sheet-metal forming based on the CAD system CATIA. Since 2002 he has been Chairman of the Management Representative Committee.
Klebe, Thomas Dr. Thomas Klebe is a Member of the Supervisory Board and Employee Representative at Daimler AG. He has held this position since 2003. He attended schools in Brunswick and Cologne, graduated from high school and studied law and political sciences from 1967 to 1972 at the Albertus Magnus University in Cologne (Universitaet zu Koeln). Following community service (in lieu of military service) and a period as a junior lawyer, he passed the German second state law examination and joined the legal protection department of the German trade union confederation (DGB) in Cologne. In 1980, he gained a doctorate at the University of Bremen and in 1982 left the DGB to join the Executive Council of the German Metalworkers' Union (IG Metall) in Frankfurt. Since then he has worked for the Executive Council of IG Metall in various areas, including the legal department and the international department where he focused on Asia. Dr. Klebe is currently General Counsel of German Metalworkers’ Union (IG Metall). Over the past 20 years he has been on the Supervisory Boards of numerous German companies, including Adam Opel AG and Compaq GmbH, in both cases as deputy chairman of the Supervisory Board. He currently holds directorships at Daimler Luft- und Raumfahrt Holding AG (DLRH) and ThyssenKrupp Services AG. He has published a number of works on labor law and is a lay judge in the 1st senate of the German Federal Labor Court.
Langer, Juergen Mr. Juergen Langer is a Member of the Supervisory Board and Employee Representative at Daimler AG. He has held this position since 2003. He graduated from high school in 1969 and started his apprenticeship as a car mechanic at DaimlerChrysler's Frankfurt sales and service outlet. He worked there as a car mechanic from 1972 to 1984. In February 1982 he qualified as a master craftsman (Meister). He has been on the Works Council of the Frankfurt sales and service outlet since 1981, and a full-time member of the Works Council since 1984. In 1987, he became the chairman of the Works Council of the Frankfurt sales and service outlet. In 1996 he became a member of the General Works Council and since November 2001 he has been chairman of the branch committee of the General Works Council and chairman of the European Sales Working Group of the Euro Works Council. Lense, Helmut Mr. Helmut Lense is a Member of the Supervisory Board and Employee Representative at Daimler AG. He has held this position since 1998. After obtaining his Abitur (university entrance qualification), his first experiences with Daimler-Benz were as an intern in 1971. Following vocational training as a toolmaker in the Untertuerkheim plant he went on to work in the engine production department. In 1973 he joined the IG Metall union and was elected as a youth representative and later as a shop steward. In 1984 he was elected to the Works Council. Since 1994 Mr. Lense has been Chairman of the Works Council at the Untertuerkheim plant. In addition, he is a Member of the General Works Council and the Corporate Group Works Council and also represents employee interests on the European Works Council and the World Employee Committee. Mr. Lense belongs to both the Master Bargaining Committee for Baden-Wuerttemberg and the executive board of the IG Metall union.
Schneider, Manfred Dr. Manfred Schneider is a Member of the Supervisory Board at Daimler AG. He has held this position since 1998. He studied Business Management at the universities of Freiburg, Hamburg and Cologne (Albert-Ludwigs-Universitaet Freiburg, Universitaet Hamburg and Universitaet zu Koeln). After earning his degree in Business Studies, he became Assistant to the Professor of Business Management at Aachen Technical University. During this time he also obtained his doctorate. He joined Bayer AG in 1966. After working in the Organization, Auditing and Cost Accounting departments, he transferred in 1971 to Duisburger Kupferhuette, at that time a subsidiary of Bayer AG. There he first headed the Finance and Accounting department and later became Chairman of the Board. At the end of 1981 he returned to Leverkusen and, following the reorganization of Bayer AG in 1984, he became Head of Regional Coordination, Corporate Auditing and Controlling within the Corporate Staff Division. Dr. Schneider joined the Board of Management on January 1, 1987 where he assumed various assignments until his appointment as Chairman in 1992. Dr. Schneider has been Chairman of the Supervisory Board of Bayer AG since April 2002. He also holds Supervisory Board memberships at Linde AG (Chairman), RWE AG and TUI AG.
Wilson, Lynton Mr. Lynton R. Wilson is a Member of the Supervisory Board at Daimler AG. He has held this position since 1998. He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from McMaster University and an MA from Cornell University. Following appointment as a Foreign Service officer with Canada’s Department of Trade and Commerce in 1962, Mr. Wilson was Assistant Commercial Secretary at the Canadian Embassy in Vienna and Second Secretary in Tokyo. Mr. Wilson served as Corporate Economist and Director of Economic Research, John Labatt Limited, coordinator, Industrial R&D Policy for the Ministry of State, Science & Technology, Strategic Planning and Development Officer, MacMillan Bloedel Ltd. and Vice President & Director, MacMillan Bloedel Enterprises Inc. Mr. Wilson was appointed Executive Director, Policy & Priorities, Ministry of Industry & Tourism, Government of Ontario and Deputy Minister of Industry & Tourism. From 1981-1988, he was President and Chief Executive Officer, Redpath Industries Limited. Mr. Wilson served as Vice-Chairman, The Bank of Nova Scotia, Toronto, (1989-1990). Furthermore, he served as President and Chief Operating Officer (1990-1992), President and Chief Executive Officer (1992-1993), Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer (1993-1996) as well as Chairman and Chief Executive Officer (1996-1998) and finally as Chairman of the Board (1998-200) at BCE Inc. Mr. Wilson was Chairman of the Board of Nortel Networks Corporation from 2001 until 2005. Mr. Wilson is Chairman of the Board of CAE Inc., Chancellor of McMaster University, a Founding Co-Chairman of the Historica Foundation of Canada, Chairman of the Daimler Canadian Advisory Council and Chairman Emeritus of Nortel Networks Corporation. He is a member of the Prime Minister’s Advisory Committee on the Public Service. Mr. Wilson is an Officer of the Order of Canada (1997), and is the recipient of honorary degrees from the Universite de Montreal, McMaster, Bishop’s, Mount Allison and Brock Universities, and the University College of Cape Breton.
Walter, Bernhard Mr. Bernhard Walter is a Member of the Supervisory Board at Daimler AG. He has held this position since 1998. He has held various senior positions in different divisions of Dresdner Bank, both throughout its branch network and at its head office in Frankfurt, since completing his bank traineeship and studying at the Wuerttemberg Academy of Business and Administration. Mr. Walter has been on the Dresdner Bank Board of Management since 1987. In addition to growing the bank's corporate client business and expanding its Business Line Global Finance area within the investment banking division, he has been heavily involved in opening up new markets in central and eastern Europe and expanding the bank's branch network in the new federal states. Lagardere, Arnaud Mr. Arnaud Lagardere is a Member of the Supervisory Board at Daimler AG. He has held this position since 2005. He has been the General Partner and the Chief Executive Officer of Lagardere S.C.A. since 2003. Mr. Lagardere graduated from the University of Paris-Dauphine (Universite Paris Dauphine) and was successively Deputy-Chairman of the Supervisory Board of the bank ARJIL, then in charge of the emerging activities and electronic Medias of Matra, then Managing Director of Lagardere (SAS). In 1994, he became the Chief Executive Officer of Grolier Inc. in the United States. He has also been Chief Executive Officer of Lagardere Media (the media division of Lagardere S.C.A.) since 1999 and President of Lagardere Active (audiovisual branch of Lagardere Media), President and Chief Executive Officer of Lagardere Active Broadcast since 2001, President of Lagardere Active Broadband and President of Lagardere Capital & Management since 2003. He is also Chairman of the Jean-Luc Lagardere Foundation and President of the Friends of Paris Jean-Bouin C.A.S.G. Association. Boersig, Clemens Dr. Clemens A.H. Boersig is a Member of the Supervisory Board at Daimler AG. He has held this position since April 4, 2007. After completing his studies of business administration and mathematics at Mannheim University (Universitaet Mannheim) in 1973, he was Assistant Professor at the Universities of Mannheim and Munich from 1973 to 1977. He received his doctorate (Dr. rer. pol) from Mannheim University in 1975 and has held an honorary professorship from Munich University since 1995. Dr. Boersig has been Chairman of the Supervisory Board of Deutsche Bank AG since May 2006. He joined Deutsche Bank in 1999 as Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer, subsequently becoming Member of the Management Board and assuming the additional responsibility of Chief Risk Officer. Prior to his career at Deutsche Bank, he spent almost three years at RWE AG, Essen, a German power company, where he was Member of the Management Board and Chief Financial Officer. He had previously worked for 12 years at Robert Bosch GmbH, Stuttgart, in various senior executive roles culminating as Member of the Management. Between 1977 and 1985, he was with Mannesmann Group, Dusseldorf, first in the Group Planning Department and subsequently, from 1983, as Chief Financial and Administrative Officer at Mannesmann-Tally. Baldauf, Sari Dr. Sari Maritta Baldauf is a Member of the Supervisory Board at Daimler AG. She has held this position since February 11, 2008. She received a Bachelor of Science in 1977 and a Master of Science in Business Administration from the Helsinki School of Economics and Business Administration (Helsingin kauppakorkeakoulu) in 1979. She further holds honorary doctorates of the Helsinki University of Technology and Turku School of Economics and Business Administration. She joined Nokia in 1983 where she held various positions in the Strategic Planning and Business Development in Finland and the United States. From 1988 to 1996 she became President of Nokia Cellular Systems where she and her team established the global basis for Nokia’s Mobile Networks business. In 1997 she became Executive Vice President of Nokia, Asia-Pacific and President of the Networks Division in 1998. She served as Executive Vice President and General Manager of the Networks business group of Nokia Corporation, from July 1998 until February 2005. From 1994 until January 2005 she was also a Member of the Executive Board of Nokia Corporation. She is a Member of the Supervisory Board or Board of Directors of Hewlett-Packard Company, Sanoma OY, F-Secure Corporation and CapMan OYj. She also serves as the Non-Executive Chairman of Savonlinna Opera Festival and is the vice-chair of the Board of the International Youth Foundation.
Hambrecht, Juergen Dr. Juergen Hambrecht is a Member of the Supervisory Board at Daimler AG. He has held this position since February 8, 2008. He studied chemistry in Tuebingen and was awarded his doctorate in organic chemistry in 1975. Dr. Hambrecht is Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors of BASF SE. In 1976 Dr. Hambrecht joined the BASF Polymers Laboratory, responsible for polystyrene, styrenic copolymers and polyphenylene ethers. In 1985 he became Head of Research and Purchasing at Lacke und Farben AG, Muenster, Germany (now BASF Coatings AG). In 1990 he was appointed President of Engineering Plastics division. In 1995 he became President of the East Asia division, based in Hong Kong. In 1997 he was appointed as member of the Board of Executive Directors. Since 2003 he has been Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors of BASF SE. Dr. Hambrecht is a member of the Supervisory Board of Deutsche Lufthansa AG and officiates in industry associations, i.a. being Vice-Chairman of various committees of the German Chemical Industry Association (VCI) and as Chairman of the BDI (Federation of German Industries) related Asia-Pacific-Committee of German Business.
Sanches, Valter Mr. Valter Sanches is a Member of the Supervisory Board and Employee Representative at Daimler. He has held this position since November 21, 2007. He has been a metalworker since 1981 when he started working as a mechanic at a machine building firm in Sao Paulo, Brazil. He holds a degree in Geography from the University of Sao Paulo (USP) (Universidade de Sao Paulo). He was then hired by Rolls-Royce in 1985, in Sao Bernardo do Campo (ABC region). Since 1988, Mr. Sanches has worked as a planner of production processes at Mercedes-Benz in Sao Bernardo do Campo, where he was elected to the CIPA (Health & Safety Committee) for the 1989-1990 term. He has been a member of the Mercedes Works Council since 1992. From 1997 to 2005, he was a member of the Council's coordination. He has also been a member of the Union's Shop Committee (CSE) since 1999. Mr. Sanches was the Works Council’s and CSE’s coordinator from 2000 until 2002, and also the Brazilian representative on the DaimlerChrysler World Employee Committee between 2000 and 2007, representing workers from the Campinas and Juiz de Fora plants as well. He was a member of the executive council of the ABC Metalworkers’ Union between 2002 and 2005. In 2004, he was elected Organizing Secretary of CNM/CUT (National Confederation of Metalworkers). In the first semester of 2007, Mr. Sanches was named General Secretary of CNM/CUT. He was re-elected General Secretary at the 7th CNM/CUT Congress, held in June 2007.
Werner, Uwe Mr. Uwe Werner is a Member of the Supervisory Board and Employee Representative at Daimler AG. He has held this position since October 1, 2007. After completing his elementary and secondary education, he began a vocational apprenticeship to become a skilled tool maker, which he completed in 1971. After obtaining further instruction for his entrance qualification for a technical college, he commenced a vocational training program as mechanical engineering technician and tooling foreman, which he completed in 1977. In 1980 he entered Daimler-Benz AG as equipment engineer at the Bremen Plant. In 1984 he was elected to the Works Council. He has been active as Deputy Chairman of the Works Council since 1995 and was elected Chairman of the Works Council at the Bremen plant on October 1, 2007. Mr. Werner has been member of the General Works Council since 1995. He has been active as honorary judge at the Regional Labor Court in Bremen for many years, and performs various union functions.
Hofmann, Joerg Mr. Joerg Hofmann is a Member of the Supervisory Board and Employee Representative of Daimler AG. He has held this position since April 9, 2008. After obtaining his high school diploma (Abitur), in 1976 he began his studies in economics, communication science and sociology in Stuttgart, Paris and Bremen. He obtained a degree in economics at Stuttgart-Hohenheim University (Universitaet Hohenheim, Stuttgart) in 1982. From 1982 he was a research employee at the Institute for Industrial Economics at Stuttgart-Hohenheim University and worked as an independent advisor for labor organization and new technologies. He joined IG Metall in 1987 as secretary of the trade union of the Stuttgart administration, where he was in charge of organizational development. Other focal issues of his professional activities were the work organization and the performance and compensation policy, primarily in the automobile industry. In 2000, he became secretary for wage issues of the regional district management Baden-Wuerttemberg of IG Metall. He was appointed district manager of the IG Metall Baden-Wuerttemberg in 2003. Over the last few years he was member of supervisory bodies of the supplier and machine-building industry. He presently holds Supervisory Board memberships at Robert Bosch GmbH and Heidelberger Druckmaschinen AG.
Osseforth, Ansgar Mr. Ansgar Osseforth is a Member of the Supervisory Board and Employee Representative of Daimler AG. He has held this position since April 9, 2008. After obtaining his Abitur (university entrance qualification) he commenced a vocational training program as a milling cutter and mechanical engineer. Subsequently, he was employed as research engineer in various passenger car projects in the pre-development area. He qualified as TQM-Process Manager and developed the new product creation process in the framework of the Mercedes-Benz development system. In this connection he was active in the area of global process management between Germany, United States of America and Japan. Mr. Osseforth entered Daimler AG in 1970 as development engineer of passenger cars. He has been active as (E4) manager in passenger car research since 1993. In his capacity as member of the works council he has been active in the HR committee at the Sindelfingen plant since 2006, as well as in the research and development area. He is Team Leader of Mercedes-Benz Research and Development.
Kleisterlee, Gerard Mr. Gerard J. Kleisterlee has been nominated as a Member of the Supervisory Board of Daimler AG as of April 8, 2009. He has been President and Chief Executive Officer of Royal Philips Electronics since 2001. He has led the repositioning of Philips over the past decade, which included a focus on strengthening the brand positioning and increasing brand value. He is chairman of the competitiveness working group of the European Round Table of Industrialists and a member of the Asia Business Council. Mr. Kleisterlee currently holds a board position at De Nederlandsche Bank N.V.
Trotter, Lloyd Mr. Lloyd G. Trotter has been nominated as Member of the Supervisory Board of Daimler AG as of April 8, 2009. Mr. Trotter was Vice Chairman General Electric, President and Chief Executive Officer of the General Electric Group’s GE Industrial division from 2006 to 2008. He has knowledge about the series production of technically advanced products, the coordination of worldwide production networks and global procurement, and technology management. He also has market knowledge of the NAFTA region, Europe and Asia. He is a founding member of the GE African American Forum. Mr. Trotter currently holds other board positions at PepsiCo Inc. and Textron Inc.
