Name Description
Costa, Santo Mr. Santo Costa serves as Chairman of the Board of Labopharm Inc. He has held the role of President and Chief Operating Officer of Quintiles Transnational Corporation (Nasdaq:QTRN), an international provider of a full range of pharmaceutical product development and commercialization activities, from early compound development, laboratory services and regulatory submission through sales and marketing. Mr. Costa joined Quintiles at the time of its initial public offering and, during his tenure, oversaw the successful integration of more than 40 acquisitions. During that same period, Quintiles' annual revenue grew from $90 million to $1.6 billion and its employee base grew from 1,000 to 20,000. Prior to joining Quintiles, Mr. Costa held the positions of General Counsel and Senior Vice-President Administration with Glaxo Inc. (NYSE:GSK), US Area Counsel with Merrell Dow Pharmaceuticals and Counsel, Food & Drug with Norwich Eaton Pharmaceuticals. Mr. Costa is currently Of Counsel with Maupin Taylor P.A. of Raleigh, North Carolina specializing in corporate law for healthcare companies. Mr. Costa currently serves as director of a number of health sciences companies, including NPS Pharmaceuticals, Inc. (Nasdaq:NPSP), CV Therapeutics, Inc. (Nasdaq:CVTX), Digiscripts and Constella Group and is chairman of NeuroMedix Inc. (TSXV:NMX). He also sits on the Board of Advisors of the North Carolina Outward Bound School, the Duke Brain Tumor Advisory Committee, the Duke University Medical Center Board of Visitors and the Duke Cancer Patient Support Program Board. Mr. Costa is an Adjunct Professor in the clinical research program at the Campbell University School of Pharmacy. Mr. Costa holds a B.S. in Pharmacy and a J.D., both from St. John's University. He is a member of the North Carolina Bar Association, the New York Bar and the Ohio Bar.
Howard-Tripp, James Mr. James R. Howard-Tripp is President and Chief Executive Officer at Labopharm Inc. Mr. Howard-Tripp is a Member of Labopharm's Board of Directors and he also sits on the board of ChondroGene Limited. Prior to joining Labopharm Inc., Mr. Howard-Tripp was Senior Vice-President, Operations with Allelix Biopharmaceuticals (now NPS Allelix) and President and CEO of its subsidiary, Allelix Neuroscience Inc. Previous to Allelix, he was Vice-President, Business Development for Wyeth-Ayerst Canada Inc., with responsibility for licensing and acquisitions, new product development and health economics.Mr. Howard-Tripp's career in pharmaceuticals extends over twenty-five years and three continents with Miles, Roussel and Searle, and includes R&D, QA/QC/Manufacturing, sales and sales management, marketing management at both the domestic and international level, as well as strategic planning and portfolio management. His business development activities have included acquisitions, mergers, divestitures, licensing, as well as co-development and co-selling agreements. He is a founding member and originating Chairman of the Canadian Healthcare Licensing Association and has been Chairman of several pharmaceutical industry committees. D'Souza, Mark Mr. Mark D'Souza serves as Chief Financial Officer, Senior Vice President of Labopharm Inc. He has held a number of progressively senior financial management positions, most recently as Vice President, Finance with Quebecor Media Inc. In addition to several international positions with the Quebecor group of companies, he has served as Finance Director of the Societe Generale de Financement du Quebec and held corporate finance positions at the Royal Bank of Canada and the Union Bank of Switzerland (Canada). Mr. D'Souza is a member of the Quebec bar and began his career with Hemens Harris and Associatesas a Lawyer. He holds an MBA from the Ecole des Hautes Etudes Commerciales and an LLL from the University of Montreal.
Heino, Mary Ms. Mary Anne Heino is President of Labopharm’s wholly owned subsidiary, Labopharm USA. She is responsible for overseeing the Company’s global sales and marketing function as well as developing Labopharm’s presence in the United States. Ms. Heino brings to Labopharm more than 15 years of experience in sales and marketing management and sales in the pharmaceutical industry. Prior to her appointment, Ms. Heino held executive positions with Centocor, Inc., a subsidiary of Johnson & Johnson, including Vice President of Strategic Planning / Competitive Intelligence and Vice President of Sales, with product revenues exceeding more than $2 billion annually. Prior to her tenure at Centocor, Ms. Heino held a series of increasingly senior sales and marketing leadership roles at Janssen Pharmaceuticals, also a subsidiary of Johnson & Johnson. Ms. Heino holds an MBA from the Stern School of Business at New York University.
Smith, Damon Dr. Damon Smith serves as Senior Vice President - Research & Development of Labopharm Inc. He brings to Labopharm more than 12 years experience directing research and development programs for growth-oriented pharmaceutical companies. Damon has taken three products from development through to commercialization. Most recently, he was Director of Research at Montreal-based ConjuChem Inc., where he was responsible for all research and early development operations, including the management of both internal and external collaborative research programs. Prior to joining ConjuChem, Dr. Smith was Executive Director of Development at Protherics Ltd. and Director of Development at Therapeutics Antibodies Inc., both of which are based in the United Kingdom. Dr. Smith holds a B.Sc. and a PhD. in biological chemistry from the University of Essex, United Kingdom.
Despars, Frederic Mr. Frederic Despars serves as Vice-President, General Counsel and Corporate Secretary of Labopharm Inc. He was from 2006 to 2008 Vice-President, Legal Affairs of Videotron Ltd., a subsidiary of Quebecor Media Inc., and Senior Director, Legal Affairs of Quebecor Inc. from 2001 to 2006.
Erbrich, Uwe Dr. Uwe Erbrich is Vice-President of Global Quality Assurance of Labopharm Inc. and is responsible for ensuring products and processes meet global quality standards. Dr. Erbrich has more than 25 years of experience in quality assurance in the pharmaceutical industry, having held increasingly senior roles at several international pharmaceutical companies. Prior to his appointment, Dr. Erbrich was Vice President Quality Assurance and Regulatory Affairs at DSM Biologics, a division of Netherlands-based DSM. Prior to joining DSM, he was Director Corporate Quality Assurance with Serono S.A., a Switzerland-based global biotechnology leader, and Director Quality Assurance/Quality Control at Roche Carolina, USA, a division of Hoffman-LaRoche (now Roche). Dr. Erbrich received his PhD. in physical chemistry from the University Freiburg, Germany.
Orleski, Gregory Mr. Gregory M.C. Orleski is Vice President - Business Development of Labopharm Inc. Mr. Orleski, held the following executive positions with Abbott Laboratories Limited, Senior Counsel Canada, International Legal Operations from April 2001 to June 2004, Division Counsel, Latin America/Canada, International Legal Operations, Pharmaceutical Products Group from June 2004 to May 2006 and, Division Counsel International, Pharmaceutical Products Group from June 2006 to Sept. 2007.
Playle, Anthony Mr. Anthony Playle serves as Managing Director of Labopharm Europe Limited, subsidiary of Labopharm Inc. He has held several senior management positions at multinational corporations. Most notably he was Vice-President of European Co-ordination for Commercial Operations at Aventis (1999-2001) and previous to that he held the position of Vice-President Business Development and Strategic Planning, Europe (1998-99) and UK Deputy Managing Director at Hoechst Marion Roussel (1995-98). He has also served as Director of Strategic Development at Hoechst Roussel (1992-95). Mr. Playle has more than thirty-five years of experience in the pharmaceutical industry. His responsibilities have included country and regional executive management, alliance management, merger integration, price/reimbursement optimization, strategic brand management, government negotiations, strategic planning, business development, manufacturing and product development. Geographically, Mr. Playle's management activities have extended to all of Europe, North America and Japan.
Porte, Frederic Mr. Frederic Porte serves as Director of Labopharm Inc. Mr. Porte holds a Diplome d’etudes approfondies (D.E.A.) in social and economic information from L’Universite Paris-Sorbonne in France, as well as a degree in Business Administration and Finance from L’Ecole Superieure de Commerce in Lyon, France. Mr. Porte is the founder and President of Medipress Management Inc., a company offering strategic and financial planning in the health care sector. Mr. Porte also chairs the board of directors of Ambrilia Biopharma Inc. and he is a venture partner of Genesys Capital Partner. In 1981, he founded L’Actualite Medicale Inc., a publishing company the assets of which were sold in 1985. In 1987, he founded and was President of Clinidata Inc., a medical and pharmaceutical software company, which was purchased by Hoechst Marion Roussel (now sanofi-aventis S.A.) in 1994. Mr. Porte was elected Director of Avance Pharma Inc. in October 2004 and resigned from such position in January 2005.
Roy, Jacques Mr. Jacques L. Roy serves as Director of Labopharm Inc. Mr. Roy holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree (B.Comm.) from McGill University. He has over 25 years of experience working in the fields of finance, venture capital and mergers and acquisitions. Throughout the course of his career, Mr. Roy has served on the board of directors of more than 15 companies (including various life sciences companies) as well as on the audit committee of a number of such companies.
MacKay, Richard Mr. Richard MacKay serves as Director of Labopharm Inc. He has been President and Chief Executive Officer of Stiefel Canada Inc. since 1976. A graduate of Sir George Williams University (now Concordia) and recipient of advanced business diplomas from both Harvard University and the École des Hautes Études Commerciales, Mr. Richard J. MacKay has a vast experience in management and sales in the pharmaceutical industry, particularly in Asia and North America.As well as serving on the Board of Labopharm, he has been a Director for another Canadian company, a former Chairman of the Board of the Pharmaceutical Manufacturers Association of Canada (PMAC), and a Director of the Nonprescription Drug Manufacturers Association of Canada and the Canadian Dermatology Foundation.
Brown, Julia Ms. Julia Brown serves as Director of Labopharm Inc. She has been a member of the Board of Directors of Tanox, Inc., Mediquest Therapeutics, Inc., and Rx3 Pharmaceuticals, Inc. Posner, Lawrence Dr. Lawrence E. Posner, M.D. has been appointed to the Board of Directors of Labopharm Inc. Dr. Posner brings to Labopharm 25 years of diverse experience in the pharmaceutical industry. During his career, Dr. Posner has held progressively senior roles at a number of leading international pharmaceutical companies. Until July 31, 2007, Dr. Posner was Senior Vice President and Special Medical Liaison to Bayer Pharmaceuticals Corporation. Prior to that, he held the positions of Senior Vice President and Head, U.S. Research and Development with Yamanouchi Pharmaceuticals U.S.A, Inc. (now Astellas Pharma, Inc.), Senior Vice President and Worldwide Head, Regulatory Affairs, Ethical Pharmaceuticals for Bayer A.G., Leverkuesen, Germany, Senior Vice President and Head, U.S. Research and Development for Bayer Corporation, West Haven, CT, and Senior Vice President, Medical Affairs, Pharmaceutical Division, for Miles, Inc. He also held several management positions with the Lederle Laboratories Division of the American Cynanamid Corporation in Pearl River, N.Y. (now Wyeth Inc.). Prior to embarking on his career in the pharmaceutical industry, Dr. Posner spent three years in private practice, specializing in medical oncology and internal medicine. Dr. Posner currently serves as a partner in Vedanta Capital of New York, NY and as a consultant to Point Biomedical, San Carlos, California and to Polyphenon Pharma of New York, NY.
Selisker, Rachel Ms. Rachel R. Selisker has been appointed to the Board of Directors of Labopharm Inc. Ms. Selisker is a senior financial executive with diverse advisory experience in the healthcare industry. Ms. Selisker is President of Seamark Advisors LLC, a consulting firm providing financial consulting services to the healthcare industry, and has gained extensive experience as Chief Financial Officer and Senior Vice President of Global Shared Services, of Quintiles Transnational Corp., a high growth, publicly held international pharmaceutical services company where she served from July 1987 to January 2001. Ms. Selisker also serves as a member of the board of directors of several other corporations and organizations, including NPS Pharmaceuticals Inc. and Wake Technical Community College Foundation in respect of which she respectively also serves as Chairman of the audit committee and as Vice Chairman of the board.
