Biographies

Name Description

John Roland

Mr. John Roland has been appointed as Chairman of the Board of Enablence Technologies Inc., effective February 11, 2013. Mr. Roland is a retired senior litigation partner of Osler, Hoskin & Harcourt LLP, a Canadian law firm. At Osler, he served Chairman of the Litigation Department for 15 years and Chairman of the Billing Committee for 13 years. He was also a member of the Executive Committee for six years. He had a broad commercial litigation practice specializing particularly in corporate governance matters. Since retirement, he has served on number of boards of volunteer organizations and is a graduate of the Rotman’s Institute of Corporate Directors course. He has also had considerable experience in alternative dispute resolution. Mr. Roland attended McGill University where he earned his Bachelor of Engineering degree and the University of Toronto where he earned his Bachelor of Laws degree.

Louis De Jong

Mr. Louis De Jong is Chief Executive Officer, Director of Enablence Technologies Inc. He has been appointed as Chief Executive Officer of the Company effective February 11, 2013. Mr. De Jong is the founder and managing partner of De Jong & Co., a boutique merchant bank which provides investment and financial advisory services. Previously, Mr. De Jong was the co-founder and managing director of Jemekk Capital Management Inc., a hedge fund manager. From 1998 to 2004, Mr. De Jong was employed by Credit Suisse First Boston where he most recently served as Director and Head of Canadian Equities. Mr. De Jong is a graduate of the University of Western Ontario (Economics) and a member of the Canadian Institute of Chartered Accountants.

Jacob Sun

Dr. Jacob Sun is Chief Operating Officer, Director of Enablence Technologies Inc. He has been appointed to the position of Non-Independent Director of the Company with effect from 13 March 2012. Dr. Sun has over 20 years of experience in fiber optics and optical components. Dr. Sun is the chief operating officer of Enablence, and was the President and CEO of ANDevices from 2003 to 2008 and joined Enablence when ANDevices was acquired by Enablence in 2008. Dr. Sun holds a Ph.D. from the University of Rochester and an MBA from Ohio State University.

Matthew Pearson

Dr. Matthew Pearson is Vice President - Technology of Enablence Technologies Inc. Prior to July 2006, he was employed as Director of Product Development. He has experience in Design, Characterization, Manufacturing, and Marketing of integrated photonic circuits. He worked with development teams at Nortel Networks and the National Research Council of Canada, and was Senior Optoelectronics Engineer in the Photonic Technology Operations at Intel Corporation. He led the Product Management group of a start-up company in Optical Components. Mr. Pearson holds a Bachelor of Science degree with Honors in Physics and Mathematics from the Royal Military College of Canada, as well as a Doctorate of Philosophy in Engineering Physics from McMaster University.

Ashok Balakrishnan

Dr. Ashok Balakrishnan is Director - Product Development at Enablence Technologies Inc. Prior to July 2006, he was employed as the Director of Research and Development at Enablence Inc. He has product experience spanning several markets, including Spectroscopy, Telecommunications and Biophotonics. He has a background from the United States National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), SDL, Inc. (now JDS Uniphase Corporation), and LNL Optenia Inc. He has experience in Commercialization of Instrumentation, as well as Optical Components. He has numerous publications and inventions in the areas of Spectroscopy, Telecommunications and Biophotonics. Dr. Balakrishnan holds a Bachelor of Engineering degree from McMaster University in Hamilton, and a Master of Science degree in Physics, as well as a Doctorate of Philosophy degree in Physics from the University of Toronto.

Serge Bidnyk

Dr. Serge Bidnyk is Director - Research and Design of Enablence Technologies Inc. Prior to July 2006, he was employed as Director of Optical Design at Enablence Inc. He also has experience with many optical components, including several types of planar reflective gratings. He was also involved in building active optical components, such as laser diodes, light emitting diodes, and photodetectors for optical storage, chemical detection, and numerous military applications. He has over 60 scientific publications and over 50 conference presentations worldwide. He holds a Diploma in Engineering Physics from Lviv National University, Ukraine, along with a Master of Science degree in Photonics and a Doctorate of Philosophy degree in Physics from Oklahoma State University.

Peter Dey

Mr. Peter J. Dey is Independent Director of Enablence Technologies Inc. He is no longer Independent Chairman of the Board of the Company effective February 11, 2013. Mr. Dey is Chairman of Paradigm Capital Inc., an employee-owned research-driven institutional securities firm. From September 2001 until his move to Paradigm in November 2005, he was a Partner of Osler, Hoskin & Harcourt, a Canadian law firm. Peter specialized in corporate board issues. In 2006 Mr. Dey was appointed a member of the International Advisory Committee of the China Securities Regulatory Commission. Mr. Dey is a director of Goldcorp Inc. which is listed on both the Toronto and New York Stock Exchanges and of MI Developments Inc. Mr. Dey is also a director of Coventree Inc. Mr. Dey attended Queen’s University where he earned his Bachelor of Science degree and Dalhousie University where he earned his Bachelor of Laws degree. He received his Master of Laws degree from Harvard University.

Daniel Hilton

Mr. Daniel Hilton serves as Independent Director of Enablence Technologies Inc., since August 2, 2012. Dan is a Chartered Accountant with an MBA from both Queen's University and Cornell University. Dan brings entrepreneurial, financial and governance experience to the board having been a director on a number of public, private and not for profit companies. Dan worked previously with Enablence in several roles, including Senior Vice President of Corporate Development, and was instrumental in the Company's early growth through 2008. His return to Enablence and familiarity will add operational and industry insight. Mr. Hilton has a B.Comm (Honours) from the University of Ottawa.

David Toews

Mr. David A. Toews is IR Contact Officer of Enablence Technologies Inc. Mr. Toews has more than 20 years experience in all aspects of accounting and financial management and was most recently VP and Controller for the Broadcast Division of Harris Corporation. Mr. Toews worked as CFO during the turnaround of Leitch Technology prior to its sale to Harris Corporation. Mr. Toews is a Chartered Accountant, and holds a Bachelor of Commerce (Honours) from McMaster University.
