Name Description

Winston Chitando

Mr. Winston Chitando has served as Non-Executive Chairman of Hwange Colliery Company Limited since May 19, 2016. Winston Chitando is a seasoned executive whose experience in the mining sector spans close to three decades. He completed a Bachelor of Accountancy degree from the University of Zimbabwe in November 1984 and in December the same year joined Anglo American Corporation as a graduate trainee based at Hwange Colliery Company, where he rose to the position of Chief Accountant. For a total of 11 years, Winston worked for the Anglo American Corporation group. During this period he rose through the ranks to hold various positions and directorships in a number of industrial and mining companies which were part of the Anglo American group. At the time he left the group to join Zimasco in 1997, he held the position of Divisional Commercial Manager in the Mining and Industrial Division. From 1998 until September 2007, Winston was an Executive Director with responsibility for Finance for both Zimasco (Pvt) Ltd and Mimosa Mining Company. He at various periods also held Executive responsibility in Zimasco for Sales and North Dyke Mining during this time. He was subsequently appointed Managing Director of Mimosa Mining Company effective 1st October 2007. In May 2013, Mimosa restructured and Winston was appointed to the position of Executive Chairman of Mimosa Holdings and Mimosa Mining Company. As Executive Chairman, Winston’s mandate includes driving long term strategies and effective stakeholder management. Winston served as Vice President of the Chamber of Mines of Zimbabwe from 2008 until 2011 and as President from 2011 to 2013. He continues to serve on the Chamber of Mines Executive Committee and is currently Chairman of the Platinum Producers Association. Winston sits on various other boards including Zimbabwe School of Mines where he chairs the Audit Committee.

Allen Masiya

Mr. Allen Masiya has served as Acting Head Legal & Company Secretary of Hwange Colliery Company Limited since July 26, 2016. He is a Legal Practitioner. Allen holds a Bachelor of Laws (LLBS) from the University of Zimbabwe and is a registered legal practitioner. He is a member of the Law Society of Zimbabwe and has experience spanning over nine (9) years, in labor and commercial law practice. He has experience in Board processes and has been in charge of the company’s legal and regulatory environment since 2013. Prior to joining the Company, Allen worked for the Government of Zimbabwe as a Law Officer in the National Prosecution Authority of the Ministry of Justice, Legal and Parliamentary Affairs. He has an in-depth understanding of both private and public practice.

Stenjwa Makore

Mr. Stenjwa Thomas (Tom) Makore has served as Managing Director, Executive Director of Hwange Colliery Company Limited since June 1, 2014. He is an executive with a track record in the corporate sector in Southern Africa. Starting his career as a graduate trainee with Triangle Limited, Tom went on to join telecom Siemens Limited as Projects Engineer in the Johannesburg Office in 1992. He was seconded to Siemens Germany in 1993 before rising through various positions to the post of Divisional Managing Director in 2001. After 12 years with Siemens, Tom went on to join information and communication technology at Diebold South Africa (Pty) Limited as Managing Director in 2004. In 2005, he moved to Spescom Holdings Limited as Chief Executive Officer for Spescom Telecommunications, a position he held for a period of five years. In 2011, he joined Cummins (Pty) Limited as Commercial Director overseeing Southern African operations before settling for full time consultancy in Energy & Telecoms in 2013. He holds a Master of Business Leadership Degree from the University of South Africa - UNISA as well as a Bachelor of Science Engineering degree from the University of Zimbabwe. He is a member of the Institute of Engineering Technology (UK), South African Institute of Electrical Engineering, Institute of Electrical Electronic Engineers (US) and is a Chartered Engineer. He is Member of the Audit Committee, Member of the Human Resources Committee, Member of the Marketing Committee, and Member of the Technical Committee of the Company.

Mzanywa Bahlangene

Eng. Mzanywa Bahlangene serves as Acting Engineering Services Manager of Hwange Colliery Company Limited. He joined the Colliery in 2003 as a Sectional Engineer (Mechanical) under the Engineering Services Department. He briefly left the Company in 2004 and worked for Portland Holdings. He rejoined the company in 2006 where he assumed the role of Sectional Engineer (Opencast Mine) before being appointed Acting Processing and Quality Assurance Manager in 2008. In 2010 he moved back to Engineering Services Department where he worked as a Divisional Engineer (Projects and Services) before being appointed Acting Engineering Services Manager at the beginning of 2011. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering Degree (UZ) and a Certificate of Business Administration (Zimbabwe Institute of Management). He is currently studying for a General Management Diploma (UZ). He is a member of the International Academy of Projects Management.

Mr. Perekai Simbarashe Mapanga serves as Acting Estates Manager of Hwange Colliery Company Limited. He did his secondary education at Gokomere High School. He then joined the Police force where he served from November 1980 to April 1988. He left to join the Office of the Controller and Auditor General as an External Auditor where he worked up to August 1990 when he joined Agricultural Rural Development Authority (ARDA) as an Internal Auditor. In March 1994 Mr. Mapanga left to assume the role of Chain Credit Controller with Edgars Stores Limited. There he rose through the ranks and was promoted to Regional Manager, Regional Administrator and later became the Group Security and Audit Manager. In May 2005, he moved to Hwange Colliery Company as the Risk and Audit Manager, a post he relinquished when he was appointed Acting Estates Manager in February 2009. He is a holder of a Higher National Diploma in Accounting, an Associate with the Institute of Chartered Secretaries and Administrators, a Masters Degree in Business Administration from Solusi University and is a registered Public Accountant in Zimbabwe.

Oliver Maponga

Mr. Oliver Josiah Maponga serves as Acting Head Projects & New Concessions of Hwange Colliery Company Limited. He was previously Business Development Manager. He joined the Colliery from Anglo American Corporation in 1986. He holds a Bachelor of Science (Combined Honors) Geology and Biology, Masters of Science Geology and Biology. He has more than 20 years experience in geology and exploration. Mr. Maponga who is studying for Doctorate in Geology with University of Zimbabwe, worked for two years at Anglo American Corporation as exploration geologist, senior mine geologist at Bindura Nickel Mine for five years and for a record 13 years as chief geologist at the Colliery company.

Akimhu Mutiti

Mr. Akimhu Isaac Mutiti serves as Acting Mining & Planning Manager of Hwange Colliery Company Limited. He completed his advanced level in 1985 at Prince Edward High School. He was awarded an Anglo American Merit Scholarship to study Mining Engineering at the University of Zimbabwe in 1986. In 1989 he graduated with a Bachelor of Science Honors Degree in Mining Engineering. In 1990, he joined Hwange Colliery Company Limited as a Graduate Learner in Mining Engineering. While in Hwange Colliery, he worked at the Technical Services, Opencast and Underground Mining Departments rising through the ranks of Shift Boss, Mine Captain, Technical Superintendent and Underground Mine Manager. In 2007 he left for Botswana to join Morupule Colliery. He was in charge of overall Mine Planning and eventually became Underground Manager. He rejoined Hwange Colliery Company in 2011 as Underground Operations Manager. Mr. Mutiti holds a Masters in Business Administration degree from Zimbabwe Open University and he is also a member of the American Institute of Mining Engineers.

Bongani Ndlovu

Mr. Bongani Conrad Ndlovu serves as Acting Metallurgical Operations and Logistics Manager of Hwange Colliery Company Limited. He joined the company in February 1997 as a graduate trainee and assumed the position of Graduate Learner-Chemist. He rose through the ranks to occupy the positions of Sales Officer, Planning and Logistics Manager, Plant Manager (Coal Preparation), Plant Manager (Cokeworks and Gas Plant) and Sales and Distribution Manager before his latest appointment as Acting Process and Quality Assurance Manager in July 2009. He holds a Bachelor of Science Honors Degree (Applied Chemistry) from the National University of Science and Technology. Has got a Diploma in General Management from Business Training and Development (in association with the University of Zimbabwe) and obtained a Marketing Management Certificate with the Institute of Marketing Management (South Africa).

Charles Zinyemba

Dr. Charles Zinyemba serves as Acting Medical Services Manager of Hwange Colliery Company Limited. He attended Empandeni Mission and Mpopoma High School for high school education from 1976 to 1981. From 1982 to 1986 he studied for his Medical Degree (MB ChB) at the University of Zimbabwe. For his Housemanship, he was attached to Mpilo and United Bulawayo Hospitals (UBH). His training at University and Housemanship was as an Army Cadet. He was posted to the Army Referral Hospital at Imbizo Barracks in 1989 as a Medical Officer with the rank of second Lieutenant. He was promoted the same year 1989 to Captain. In 1990 he was posted to 6 brigade, a fighting army formation to head its Medical Services and was appointed Senior Medical Officer. He was responsible for all military Medical institutions in the Midlands province and all military medical institutions along the Limpopo Corridor during the deployment of 6 Brigade. He gained surgical and administrative experience during this period. When 6 brigade was at home (Guinea Fowl – Gweru) he would work at Gweru Provincial Hospital where he sharpened his surgical skills. In 1994 he left the Army and joined Wankie Colliery Company as a Medical Officer where he continued to sharpen his surgical and medical skills. In 1998 the Company attached him to Mpilo Hospital where he worked as a Surgical Registrar and received further training in orthopedics. Dr. Zinyemba sat and passed the MCPCPZ examinations in November 2002. He is the immediate past Secretary General of the Midlands Chapter of ZIMA. He left Wankie Colliery in June 1999 to join a Group Private Medical Practice (the biggest in Kwekwe) as an assistant. In 2000 he was promoted to Partner. He became Acting Senior Partner in 2003 before becoming Senior Partner in 2004 – a position held until he rejoined Hwange Colliery Company on March 1, 2011.

Wenceslaus Kutekwatekwa

Mr. Wenceslaus Tarugarira (Wence) Kutekwatekwa has served as Non-Executive Director of Hwange Colliery Company Limited since May 19, 2016. Wence is a mining engineer with skills covering mining production, planning and technical, project management, contract management, marketing, organizational development, executive management and corporate governance roles, which have been acquired in 26 years in the local mining industry. He started his mining career with the Anglo American group where he worked for twelve years up to mine manager level. He then later worked as Business Value Planning Manager for Zimasco, Technical Executive for AA Mines, Consulting Mining Engineer for Bindura Nickel Corporation, General Manager for Zimasco North Dyke Division, Country Manager for Atlas Copco Zimbabwe, Chief Operating Officer for RioZim and Managing Director for RioGold. He is currently the Consulting Director and CEO of Virimai Projects, an emerging entrepreneurial mining consulting and project management organization. Wence is a former member of the Board for the Zimbabwe School of Mines, past president of the Association of Mine Managers of Zimbabwe, past chairman of the Southern African Institute of Mining and Metallurgy, past chairman of the Committee of the Chamber of Mines, past chairman of Mine Rescue Association of Zimbabwe and past board chairman for the Project Management Institute of Zimbabwe. He is member of the Institute of Directors and a Fellow of the Southern African Institute of Mining and Metallurgy.

Ntombizodwa Masuku

Mrs. Ntombizodwa Masuku has served as Non-Executive Director of Hwange Colliery Company Limited since May 19, 2016. Ntombizodwa holds a Master of Science Degree in Exploration Geophysics and a Bachelor of Science Degree in Geology and Physics, both from the University of Zimbabwe. She worked for the Zimbabwe Geological Survey (ZGS) for seventeen years (1990 – 2007), during which period she rose through the ranks to the position of Chief Geophysicist; a position she held until her resignation from Public Service in September 2007. While at ZGS, Ntombizodwa received extensive local, regional and international on-the-job training and best practice. She worked closely with small-scale miners country-wide, local and international large-scale mineral exploration companies where she was instrumental in the promotion of Geophysics as an exploration tool, the University of Zimbabwe where she did extensive research in deep groundwater aquifers in the north-western parts of Zimbabwe and was also attached to DPhil research fellows and the Zimbabwe School of Mines where she taught part of the Geology Diploma for over five years. Since her resignation from Public Service, Ntombizodwa has been involved in mineral and groundwater exploration as a consultant geophysicist and has done successful contract projects both locally and in the region. Ntombizodwa was appointed to the Zimbabwe Mining Development Corporation Board for the period December 2012 to December 2013.

Valentine Vera

Mr. Valentine Vera has served as Non-Executive Director of Hwange Colliery Company Limited since August 3, 2011. Valentine holds a Bachelor of Science Honors Degree from the University of Rhodesia (now University of Zimbabwe), and a Bachelor of Science Degree in Chemical Engineering from Wayne State University in the United States of America (U.S.A) He is currently the Director of Metallurgy in the Ministry of Mines and Mining Development, prior to which he held positions of Deputy Director, Regional Metallurgist and Projects Metallurgist within the same ministry. He has extensive technical and management experience both local and international. He is a member of the Zimbabwe School of Mines Board and the Mining Affairs Board. He is Member of the Audit Committee, and Member of the Technical Committee of the Company.

Juliana Muskwe

Mrs. Juliana Muskwe has served as Independent Non-Executive Director of Hwange Colliery Company Limited since April 1, 2013. Juliana is currently studying for a Bachelor of Arts Honors in Human and Social Sciences specializing in Development Studies with the University of South Africa (UNISA). She has a Diploma in Personnel Management from the Institute of People Management of Zimbabwe (IPMZ), a Certificate in Community Development from LASOF Institute and a Certificate in HIV and Aids from UNISA. She previously was the Programs Manager for Ntengwe Community Development, an organization that she championed its establishment for the benefit of the community. She is a skilled worker with sound knowledge and experience of more than twenty (20) years in community development programs with emphasis on HIV Aids, gender, children and vulnerable societies. She has had extensive training in monitoring and evaluation, project planning and proposals, behavioral change, women’s rights, results based management and financial management. She is Member of the Audit Committee, Member of the Human Resources Committee, Member of the Marketing Committee, and Member of the Technical Committee of the Company.
