Biographies

Name Description

Farai Mutamangira

Mr. Farai Mutamangira serves as Independent Non-Executive Chairman of the Board of Hwange Colliery Company Ltd since August 3, 2011. He has experience, spanning over 12 years, in litigation and commercial law practice. He is legal advisor to the Government of Zimbabwe on various matters both locally and internationally. He is a legal advisor to a number of corporations both listed and unlisted. He has also experience in corporate rescue having been involved in the reconstruction of a number of financial institutions. He has lectured Contract Law and Commercial Law at the University of Zimbabwe as a GTA. He is the Chairman of Allied Bank Limited. He sits on various boards including the Zimbabwe Broadcasting Holdings (ZBH) and the National Indigenization and Economic Empowerment Board (NIEEB). He is the Chairman of the Disciplinary Committee of the Institute of Certified Public Accountants (CPAZ). He is the former Vice President of the Affirmative Action Group. He is also the former United Nations (UN) Goodwill Ambassador for youth and the Millenium Development Goals and a former Chairman of the Zimbabwe Youth Council appointed in terms of the Zimbabwe Youth Council Act.

Victor Rakabopa

Eng. Victor Rakabopa has served as General Manager (Operations) at Hwange Colliery Company Ltd since 2013. He previously acted as Acting Opencast Mine Manager of the Company from 2010 to December 31, 2012. He joined the Company as Plant Engineer (Processing) in March 2004 and was promoted to Engineering Services Manager in February 2009. He has over 19 years of technical and managerial experience, having previously worked for Zimbabwe Phosphate Industries (Chemplex Corporation) and Zimasco. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering (with Honors Degree) from the University of Zimbabwe and a General Management Diploma from the University of Zimbabwe as well.

Oliver Maponga

Mr. Oliver Josiah Maponga serves as Technical Services Manager of Hwange Colliery Company Ltd since 2013. He was previously Business Development Manager. He joined the Colliery from Anglo American Corporation in 1986. He holds a Bachelor of Science (Combined Honors) Geology and Biology, Masters of Science Geology and Biology. He has more than 20 years experience in geology and exploration. Mr. Maponga who is studying for Doctorate in Geology with University of Zimbabwe, worked for two years at Anglo American Corporation as exploration geologist, senior mine geologist at Bindura Nickel Mine for five years and for a record 13 years as chief geologist at the Colliery company. He was later promoted Exploration and Technical Services Manager and now he is the Business Development Manager.

Bernard Tongogara

Mr. Bernard Magama Tongogara serves as Information Communication Technology Manager at Hwange Colliery Company Ltd. He did his secondary education at Thornhill high in Gweru, before enrolling for apprenticeship training with the Ministry of Health from 1985 to 1989, as an Instrumentation and Control Technician. He concurrently read Electrical Engineering and wrote City and Guilds of London. Immediately after qualifying he left for Ziscostell, where he worked as a Senior Electronics and Computer Technician for three years. It is at Zisco that he initiated with Technology. He left Zisco for ZESA at Munyati Power Station as an Senior Instrumentation and Control Technician during the refurbishment of the Power Station. A year later he was promoted to Training Officer Electronics and Information Technology at ZESA National Training Centre for seven years. He was instrumental in bringing technology to the Training centre; that is setting up of the network and relevant systems for training, during the last three years he doubled as the Systems Administrator. Mr Tongogara left Zesa through voluntary retrenchment in 2001. He revived his career in 2002 at Harare Institute of Technology where he rose to become Head of Department Development Studies, before joining Public Service Commission as the Information Technology Manager 2005. He left PSC immediately after implementing the SAP Project to join Hwange Colliery Company as the Information Technology Manager in 2006. In 2008 he was promoted to Information Communication Technology Manager’s post, a position he holds to date. He holds the following qualifications: Master of Business Administration, Zimbabwe Open University, City and Guilds London T5 Electrical Engineering, HND in Computer studies, Diploma Instrumentation and Control and Diploma Business Management and Administration. He is a member of the Computer Society of Zimbabwe.

Stenjwa Makore

Mr. Stenjwa Thomas (Tom) Makore has served as Managing Director of Hwange Colliery Company Limited since June 1, 2014. He is an executive with a track record in the corporate sector in Southern Africa. Starting his career as a graduate trainee with Triangle Limited, Tom went on to join telecom Siemens Limited as Projects Engineer in the Johannesburg Office in 1992. He was seconded to Siemens Germany in 1993 before rising through various positions to the post of Divisional Managing Director in 2001. After 12 years with Siemens, Tom went on to join information and communication technology at Diebold South Africa (Pty) Limited as Managing Director in 2004. In 2005, he moved to Spescom Holdings Limited as Chief Executive Officer for Spescom Telecommunications, a position he held for a period of five years. In 2011, he joined Cummins (Pty) Limited as Commercial Director overseeing Southern African operations before settling for full time consultancy in Energy & Telecoms in 2013. He holds a Master of Business Leadership Degree from the University of South Africa - UNISA as well as a Bachelor of Science Engineering degree from the University of Zimbabwe. He is a member of the Institute of Engineering Technology (UK), South African Institute of Electrical Engineering, Institute of Electrical Electronic Engineers (US) and is a Chartered Engineer.

Themba Sibanda

Fati Mpofu

Mr. Fati Mpofu serves as Human Resources Manager at Hwange Colliery Co Ltd. He joined the Colliery from African Associated Mines in August 1982 as a departmental personnel officer. He served in that capacity for two years before being promoted to the position of Chief Industrial Relations Officer in 1984. Four years later he was elevated to Industrial Relations and Manpower Manager and worked up to September 2003 and he briefly left the Colliery for the Bulawayo based Ingwebu Breweries as human resources manager. He rejoined the Colliery in 2004 as the Human Resources Manager. Mr. Mpofu’s career started in the classroom when as a teacher in Hwange from 1976 to 1977 after having completed a teacher training course at United College of Education (Bulawayo) in 1975. A trained social from the University of Zimbabwe, Mr. Mpofu holds Bachelor of Administration Degree and Post Graduate Diploma in Marketing Management from University of South Africa (UNISA). He had a short stint with Jairos Jiri Association as a Welfare Officer from 1981 to 1982 before he left to assume a similar post with AA Mines in the then Shabani.

Mzanywa Bahlangene

Eng. Mzanywa Bahlangene serves as Engineering Services Manager at Hwange Colliery Company Ltd. He joined the Colliery in 2003 as a Sectional Engineer (Mechanical) under the Engineering Services Department. He briefly left the company in 2004 and worked for Portland Holdings. He rejoined the company in 2006 where he assumed the role of Sectional Engineer (Opencast Mine) before being appointed Acting Processing and Quality Assurance Manager in 2008. In 2010 he moved back to Engineering Services Department where he worked as a Divisional Engineer (Projects and Services) before being appointed Acting Engineering Services Manager at the beginning of 2011. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering Degree (UZ) and a Certificate of Business Administration (Zimbabwe Institute of Management). He is currently studying for a General Management Diploma (UZ). He is a member of the International Academy of Projects Management.

Herbert Makwala

Perekai Mapanga

Mr. Perekai Simbarashe Mapanga serves as Estates Manager at Hwange Colliery Company Ltd. He did his secondary education at Gokomere High School. He then joined the Police force where he served from November 1980 to April 1988. He left to join the Office of the Controller and Auditor General as an External Auditor where he worked up to August 1990 when he joined Agricultural Rural Development Authority (ARDA) as an Internal Auditor. In March 1994 Mr. Mapanga left to assume the role of Chain Credit Controller with Edgars Stores Limited. There he rose through the ranks and was promoted to Regional Manager, Regional Administrator and later became the Group Security and Audit Manager. In May 2005, he moved to Hwange Colliery Company as the Risk and Audit Manager, a post he relinquished when he was appointed Acting Estates Manager in February 2009. He is a holder of a Higher National Diploma in Accounting, an Associate with the Institute of Chartered Secretaries and Administrators, a Masters Degree in Business Administration from Solusi University and is a registered Public Accountant in Zimbabwe.

Akimhu Mutiti

Mr. Akimhu Isaac Mutiti serves as Opencast Mine Manager of Hwange Colliery Company Ltd since 2013. He served as Underground Operations Manager since 2011. He completed his advanced level in 1985 at Prince Edward High School. He was awarded an Anglo American Merit Scholarship to study Mining Engineering at the University Of Zimbabwe in 1986. In 1989 he graduated with a Bachelor of Science Honors Degree in Mining Engineering. In 1990, he joined Hwange Colliery Company Limited as a Graduate Learner in Mining Engineering. While in Hwange Colliery, he worked at the Technical Services, Opencast and Underground Mining Departments rising through the ranks of Shift Boss, Mine Captain, Technical Superintendent and Underground Mine Manager. In 2007 he left for Botswana to join Morupule Colliery. He was in charge of overall Mine Planning and eventually became Underground Manager. He rejoined Hwange Colliery Company in 2011 as Underground Operations Manager. Mr. Mutiti holds a Masters in Business Administration degree from Zimbabwe Open University and he is also a member of the American Institute of Mining Engineers.

Admore Ndlovu

Mr. Admore Ndlovu serves as Internal Audit Manager at Hwange Colliery Company Ltd. He joined the Company in 2001 as a Senior Internal Auditor. He brought to the Company experience having worked for Ziscosteel from 1996 to 2000 in various capacities as an Associate Auditor, Accountant and Internal Auditor. After working as a Senior Internal Auditor in the Colliery from 2001 to 2003, he was elevated to Acting Risk and Audit Manager for two years and then moved to Accounts section where he headed Systems and Operations Accountant for a year before being appointed to Head Procurement and Supplies in acting capacity for another year. He was promoted to his present position at the beginning of 2009. He holds a Bachelor of Technology Degree in Accounting (Honors) from the University of Zimbabwe and an Executive Masters Degree in Business Administration from the National University of Science and Technology (NUST). He is presently studying for an Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) qualification.

Bongani Ndlovu

Mr. Bongani Conrad Ndlovu serves as Metallurgical Operations Manager at Hwange Colliery Company Ltd. He joined the company in February 1997 as a graduate trainee and assumed the position of Graduate Learner-Chemist. He rose through the ranks to occupy the positions of Sales Officer, Planning and Logistics Manager, Plant Manager (Coal Preparation), Plant Manager (Cokeworks and Gas Plant) and Sales and Distribution Manager before his latest appointment as Acting Process and Quality Assurance Manager in July 2009. He holds a Bachelor of Science Honors Degree (Applied Chemistry) from the National University of Science and Technology. Has got a Diploma in General Management from Business Training and Development (in association with the University of Zimbabwe) and obtained a Marketing Management Certificate with the Institute of Marketing Management (South Africa).

Charles Zinyemba

Dr. Charles Zinyemba serves as Medical Services Manager at Hwange Colliery Company Ltd. He attended Empandeni Mission and Mpopoma High School for high school education from 1976 to 1981. From 1982 to 1986 he studied for his Medical Degree (MB ChB) at the University of Zimbabwe. For his Housemanship, he was attached to Mpilo and United Bulawayo Hospitals (UBH). His training at University and Housemanship was as an Army Cadet. He was posted to the Army Referral Hospital at Imbizo Barracks in 1989 as a Medical Officer with the rank of second Lieutenant. He was promoted the same year 1989 to Captain. In 1990 he was posted to 6 brigade, a fighting army formation to head its Medical Services and was appointed Senior Medical Officer. He was responsible for all military Medical institutions in the Midlands province and all military medical institutions along the Limpopo Corridor during the deployment of 6 Brigade. He gained surgical and administrative experience during this period. When 6 brigade was at home (Guinea Fowl – Gweru) he would work at Gweru Provincial Hospital where he sharpened his surgical skills. In 1994 he left the Army and joined Wankie Colliery Company as a Medical Officer where he continued to sharpen his surgical and medical skills. In 1998 the Company attached him to Mpilo Hospital where he worked as a Surgical Registrar and received further training in orthopedics. Dr. Zinyemba sat and passed the MCPCPZ examinations in November 2002. He is the immediate past Secretary General of the Midlands Chapter of ZIMA. He left Wankie Colliery in June 1999 to join a Group Private Medical Practice (the biggest in Kwekwe) as an assistant. In 2000 he was promoted to Partner. He became Acting Senior Partner in 2003 before becoming Senior Partner in 2004 – a position held until he rejoined Hwange Colliery Company on March 1, 2011.

Thembelani Ncube

Mr. Thembelani Kole Ncube serves as Company Secretary at Hwange Colliery Company Ltd. He started his career 1991 with a financial institution as a graduate trainee and the business analyst before joining Zisco in 1994 as a Financial Accountant. He was then appointed as the Chief accountant in October during the same year. In March 2000, he joined Hwange Colliery as Systems accountant up to November 2000. He was appointed to the position of Operations accountant in January 2003 a position he held until he was appointed as the Company Secretary in June2003 to date. He holds a Bachelor of Business Studies Honors from the University Of Zimbabwe, a Masters in Business Administration from the National University of Science and Technology, a certificate in Chartered Institute of Secretaries and Administrators of Zimbabwe(CIS) currently on part D. He is currently studying A Bachelor of Laws Honors with the University of South Africa.

Jemister Chininga

Mr. Jemister Chininga has served as Director of Hwange Colliery Company Limited since 2013. He served as Acting Managing Director of the Company between 2013 and June 1, 2014. From August 3, 2011 to 2013, he served as Non-Executive Independent Director of the Company. He is Chairman of the Audit and Member of the Technical Committees of the Company. He joined the Civil Service in Zimbabwe in 1980 and rose through the ranks until his retirement in 2001. He occupied various positions such as Chairman of the Zimbabwe Government Tender Board and Deputy Secretary for Finance in the then Ministry of Industry and International Trade. He also sat on various boards in companies which include Olivine Holdings, Centre of Innovation and Enterprise Development (CIED), then ZISCOM, Standards Association of Zimbabwe and the Minerals Marketing Corporation of Zimbabwe. He is currently Director of Sandawana Mines (Private) Limited, a subsidiary of Zimbabwe Mining Development Corporation (ZMDC). He is former Managing Director of Ramotswa Steel and Iron Company based in Botswana. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from the International University, San Diego, California.

Norman Chibanguza

Mr. Norman Shingirayi Chibanguza serves as Non-Executive Director at Hwange Colliery Company Ltd since August 3, 2011. He is the Company's Member of the Marketing and Human Resources committees. He is currently the Managing Director for Farhigh Trading Transportation and Property Management company and a Director for Cladmont Investments, Property Plus Realtors and Haddon and Sly Properties. He has previously been Managing Director of Chibanguza Group of Hotels and Guy Chibanguza Enterprises (Private) Limited’s retail supermarkets. He is also a Non Executive Director of Rainbow Tourism Group (RTG) and Zimchem Refi neries (Private) Limited.

Sipiwe Mapfuwa

Ms. Sipiwe Mapfuwa serves as Non-Executive Director at Hwange Colliery Company Ltd since August 3, 2011. She is the Company's Member of the Marketing and Technical committees. She is a qualified Community Development Specialist and she has knowledge and experience in local government management. She holds a Certificate in Gender Mainstreaming, Trainer of Trainers (ToT) Certificate and a UNICEF Reproductive Health Certificate. She worked as a Primary School Teacher from 1982 to 1987, served as a legal secretary (from 1987 to 1990) at Chizikani and Associates Law Firm and was a secretary to the Chief Executive Officer for Zimbabwe Chamber of Commerce from 1990 to 1992. She on various committees provided secretariat services, like on the G7 and as chairperson of the Hwange Rural District Council, Provincial Chairperson of Women Councilors Association, and represented women in local government in various women movements at National Level. She served in the Zimbabwe Local Government Authority (Zilga) interim committee and eventually became the third Vice President of Zilga. She served as Thematic Committee Senior Rappotuer for COPAC. She is a member of the Zimchem Refi neries (Private) Limited Board and once served as Africa Centre for Holistic Management Board member as well. She is a business woman and farmer in Hwange district.

Valentine Vera

Mr. Valentine Vera serves as Non-Executive Director at Hwange Colliery Company Ltd since August 3, 2011. He is the Company's Member of the Audit and Chairman of the Technical Committees. He holds a Bachelor of Science Honours Degree from the University of Rhodesia (now University of Zimbabwe), and a Bachelor of Science Degree in Chemical Engineering from Wayne State University in the United States of America. He is currently the Director of Metallurgy in the Ministry of Mines and Mining Development. Prior to which he held positions of Deputy Director, Regional Metallurgist and Projects Metallurgist within the same ministry. He has technical and management experience both local and international. He is a member of the Zimbabwe School of Mines Board and the Mining Affairs Board.

Ian Haruperi

Mr. Ian Chamunorwa Haruperi serves as Non-Executive Independent Director at Hwange Colliery Company Ltd since August 3, 2011. He is the Company's Chairman of the Marketing Committee, and Member of the Technical Committee. He is currently the Managing Director of Chardore Holdings and has more than seven years experience at the helm of an organisation dealing in mining, properties, finance and investment. He is a former Director of Mining Procurement for Memotek Ltd (2001 to 2003). He has a range of international links as he has been involved in developing Greenfields (Desktop Studies, Mine layouts, initial drill plans, drilling and exploration) to investments in mining (which also include international listings). He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Economics from Middlesex University, (United Kingdom) and is a qualified stock broker and investment advisor.

Nkosilathi Jiyane

Mr. Nkosilathi Jiyane serves as Non-Executive Independent Director at Hwange Colliery Company Ltd since August 3, 2011. He is the Company's Member of the Marketing and Human Resources committees. He holds a Diploma in Project Management from the Zimbabwe Institute of Public Administration and Management (ZIPAM), a Certificate in Public Administration and a Certificate in Good Governance. He is the current Mayor for Victoria Falls town, having been a Councillor for the Municipality from 2001. He previously worked for Zimbank from 1994 to 1999, and also worked for Savanna as an Administration Manager from 2000 to 2002, and then moved to Wood Furnishers, Victoria Falls from 2003 to 2005. Juliana Muskwe

Ms. Juliana Muskwe serves as Non-Executive Independent Director of Hwange Colliery Company Ltd since April 1, 2013. She is currently studying for a Bachelor of Arts Honours in Human and Social Sciences specialising in Development Studies with the University of South Africa (UNISA). She also has a Diploma in Personal Management from the Institute of People Management of Zimbabwe (IPMZ), a Certificate in Community Development from LASOF Institute and a Certificate in HIV and Aids from UNISA. She is currently the Programs Manager for Ntengwe Community Development, an organisation that she championed its establishment for the benefit of the community. She is a skilled development worker with sound knowledge and experience of more than 15 years in community development programmes with emphasis on HIV Aids, gender, children and vulnerable societies. She has had training in monitoring and evaluation, project planning and proposals, behavioural change, women’s rights, results based management and fi nancial management.

Lucas Nkomo

Mr. Lucas Nkomo serves as Non-Executive Independent Director at Hwange Colliery Company Ltd since August 3, 2011. He holds a Bachelor of Laws Honours (LLBs) from the University of Zimbabwe (UZ). He also has a Postgraduate Diploma in Law Studies with specialization in Equity, Trusts and Property Law from Australia. He is currently an Advocate of the High Court of Zimbabwe. He has worked in Australia as a Paralegal for Maddocks Lawyers from 2005 to 2006 and Legal Eagles from 2006 to December 2008. He is a Board member of Sharp Investments (Pvt) Ltd and Seddon Finance (Pvt) Ltd. He was a Legal Advisor to the Management Board of King George VI Rehabilitation Centre from 2001 to 2004.
