Biographies

Name Description

Rupert Pearce

Mr. Rupert Pearce is Chief Executive Officer, Executive Director of Inmarsat PLC. He joined Inmarsat in January 2005 as Group General Counsel and from January 2009, additionally held the position of Senior Vice President, Inmarsat Enterprises. He became an Executive Director in July 2011 and CEO in January 2012. Previously, Rupert worked for Atlas Venture, where he was a partner working with the firm’s European and U.S. investment teams. He has also been a partner at the international law firm Linklaters, where he spent 13 years specialising in corporate finance, mergers & acquisitions and private equity transactions. Rupert received an MA (First Class) in Modern History from Oxford University and won the 1995 Fulbright Fellowship in U.S. securities law, studying at the Georgetown Law Center. He has been a visiting fellow of the Imperial College Business School, London lecturing on the school’s Entrepreneurship programme, and is the co-author of ‘Raising Venture Capital’ (Wiley).

John Rennocks

Mr. John L. Rennocks is Senior Independent Non-Executive Deputy Chairman of the Board of Inmarsat plc. He has broad experience in emerging energy sources, support services and manufacturing. He served as an Executive Director - Finance of a number of public companies including British Steel plc/Corus Group plc, Powergen plc and Smith & Nephew plc.

Tony Bates

Mr. Tony Bates has been appointed as Chief Financial Officer, Executive Director of the Company. Mr. Bates is an experienced senior finance and business professional. He has been the Group CFO of hibu (previously Yell Group Plc) since November 2010. He played a leading role in the multi billion pound refinancing of the Group's capital structure and in the delivery of a much lower cost operating model. Prior to hibu, he was Chief Operating Officer of Colt Group S.A., the pan-European business telecoms operator, where he was responsible for the Finance function from 2003 to 2009. His previous senior management experience was mainly with EMI Group plc, latterly as Group Finance Director. Mr. Bates took a First Class BSc in Management Sciences at the University of Manchester Institute of Science and Technology. He is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales.

Frank Coles

Frank Coles is President - Maritime. He became President, Inmarsat Maritime in 2012. Prior to his appointment as head of the maritime business, Frank was Senior Director of Maritime Market Development for Inmarsat Global Xpress, based in Washington, D.C. He started his career in 1977 as a Merchant Marine Deck Officer, working for a wide range of ship management companies and serving on a variety of merchant vessels. After leaving the Merchant Navy in 1989, he spent five years as a lawyer at Richards Butler (London) and Stephenson Harwood & Lo (Hong Kong) before becoming general manager for Pacific Basins Bulk Shipping Agencies in 1995. He joined Sperry Marine Systems in 1998, where he became Vice President of Business Development and Information Technology. In 1999 he became President and CEO for Globe Wireless, a maritime satcoms retailer and service provider. Frank has a Master Mariner qualification from the South Glamorgan Institute in Cardiff, Wales, and a Masters in Maritime Law from University of Wales, Cardiff.

David Helfgott

Ronald Spithout

Ronald Spithout is President - Enterprise. He was appointed President, Inmarsat Enterprise, in January 2012. He came to Inmarsat from Stratos Global, which was acquired by Inmarsat in April 2009. From July 2006 until December 2011, Mr Spithout was Senior Vice President, MSS Marketing and Sales, Worldwide, for Stratos Global, with global responsibility for the MSS marketing and sales organisation. Prior to that, he was responsible for Stratos MSS Sales for all countries except North America. He came to Stratos from Xantic B.V., a satellite communications company headquartered in The Netherlands, which was acquired by Stratos in early 2006. At Xantic, Mr Spithout served as Executive Vice President Marketing and Sales. Mr Spithout held various sales positions in the late 1980s for KPN (the Royal Dutch Telecom Operator) in the Netherlands. Mr Spithout holds a degree in Electrical Engineering from HTS-Rotterdam, the Rotterdam Institute for Technology. He also served as a reserve Lieutenant in the Dutch Cavalry.

Andy Start

Andy Start is President,Global Government. He joined Inmarsat in 2012 and is President, Inmarsat Global Government. Prior to joining Inmarsat he was President of Harris Corporation’s international tactical radio business, Managing Director of BAE Systems Platform Solutions Business, and Director of EADS Astrium’s Military Space Business. During his time at EADS Astrium he was responsible for the Skynet 4 programme and was instrumental in the creation of the Skynet 5 service provision that enables UK MOD to exploit military and commercial satellite communications across the complete array of military tasks and operations. Andy has completed two Government secondments: one in the UK MOD, the other in the Department of Trade and Industry, where he was responsible to the Secretary of State for leading the development of the UK’s National Aerospace Strategy.

Alison Horrocks

Ms. Alison Horrocks is Senior Vice President - Corporate Governance, Company Secretary of Inmarsat plc. Alison joined Inmarsat in 1999 and provides corporate governance advice and acts as Company Secretary to the Board and its Committees. She is Chairman of the Trustee Company responsible for Inmarsat’s UK pension plans. Alison is a Chartered Secretary. She was Group Company Secretary of International Public Relations plc, a worldwide public relations company, for 11 years prior to joining Inmarsat.

Rich Harris

Rich Harris is Senior Vice President - Legal and Regulatory Affairs. He was appointed as Inmarsat’s Senior Vice President, Legal and Regulatory Affairs, in January 2012. Previously, he served as Senior Vice President and Chief Legal Officer at Segovia, Inmarsat’s wholly-owned subsidiary in Herndon, Virginia (USA). From 2004 through 2010, he served as Senior Vice President, Chief Legal Officer and Corporate Secretary at Stratos Global Corporation, prior to, and following the acquisition by, Inmarsat. Before Stratos, he served as General Counsel of Worldwide Retail Exchange, now Agentrics, an internet platform for the consumer retail market. He received a BA in Economics from the University of Pennsylvania and a Juris Doctor from the Yale Law School.

Debbie Jones

Debbie Jones is Senior Vice President - Corporate Development. She joined us in 2000. She is our Senior Vice President, Corporate Development. Ms Jones is a non-executive director of Capital Law LLP. Between 1995 and 2000, she was the senior human resources adviser for Eversheds Solicitors. Between 1988 and 1995, she was the head of personnel at Companies House in Cardiff. Prior to this, Ms Jones held various operational, information technology supervisory and management positions at the Department of Trade and Industry and the Office for National Statistics. She is a member of the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development.

Ruy Pinto

Ruy Pinto is Chief Technology Officer of Inmarsat. He joined Inmarsat in 1990 and became Chief Operations Officer in November 2013. Between January 2012 and November 2013 he was Chief Technical Officer. From 2009 to 2011, Mr Pinto was Vice President of Satellite and Network Operations responsible for network and satellite operations, spectrum management and yield optimisation functions for the product portfolio, as well as navigation services. His previous roles in Inmarsat focused on satellite operations. Mr Pinto is a former Chair of UK Space, the UK space industry trade association. He has a background in electronics and data communications. Mr Pinto graduated with a degree in Electronics Engineering from the Rio de Janeiro Catholic University in Brazil, followed by a post-graduate degree in Digital Telecommunications Systems.

Leo Mondale

Leo Mondale is Managing Director-Global Xpress. He joined Inmarsat in 2004 and has been Managing Director, Growth Management Services since 2013. Previously he served as Managing Director for our Global Xpress programme and Vice President of Business Development and Strategy. Before joining Inmarsat, Mr Mondale held a variety of senior positions in the satellite and aerospace industries, including as partner in Thaler Associates, a defense industry advisory firm, and as President of Arianespace Inc., responsible for the European launch services firm’s sales, marketing and governmental affairs in the United States. Mr Mondale also held a range of posts, including Senior VP and Chief Financial Officer at Iridium. Mr Mondale holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Minnesota and was awarded a Juris Doctor degree from the George Washington University, Washington, D.C. nagement Services.

Andrew Sukawaty

Mr. Andrew (Andy) J. Sukawaty has been appointed as Non-Executive Chairman of the Board of Inmarsat PLC effective January 1, 2015. He joined Inmarsat in December 2003 and held the joint role of Chairman and Chief Executive Officer until 2011. He became Executive Chairman in 2012. Andy served as President and Chief Executive Officer of Sprint PCS, a NYSE listed global national wireless carrier for four years, and previously as Chief Executive Officer of NTL Limited. His previous career has included various management positions with US West and AT&T and as a Non-Executive Director on various listed companies. Mr Sukawaty holds a BBA and MBA respectively from the University of Wisconsin and Minnesota.

Simon Bax

Mr. Simon T. Bax has been appointed as Additional Non-Executive Director of Inmarsat PLC., effective June 18, 2013. He was, from 2008 to 2013, CEO of Encompass Digital Media Inc, which provides technical services to broadcasters, cable networks and government agencies. He previously served as CFO and Executive Vice President of Pixar Animation and CFO and President of Studio Operations of Fox Filmed Entertainment. Mr Bax holds an honours degree in History from Cambridge University and is a chartered accountant.

C. Robert Kehler

General C. Robert Kehler, United States Air Force (Retired), has been appointed as Additional Non-Executive Director of the Company effective May 6, 2014. He retired from the Air Force in January 2014 with over 38 years of service. Prior to his retirement, General Kehler served as Commander, U.S. Strategic Command from January 2011 to November 2013. In that position he was directly responsible to the President and Secretary of Defense for the plans and operations of all U.S. forces conducting strategic deterrence, and Department of Defense space and cyberspace operations. Prior to that assignment, he served as Commander, Air Force Space Command from October 2007 to January 2011. As commander of Air Force Space Command, General Kehler was responsible for the development, acquisition and operation of the Air Force's space and missile systems. He oversaw a global network of satellite command and control, communications, missile warning and launch facilities, and ensured the combat readiness of America's intercontinental ballistic missile force. Over his career, General Kehler served in a variety of important operational and staff assignments, and successfully led large organizations with global responsibilities.

Abraham Peled

Dr. Abraham Peled has been appointed as Additional Non-Executive Director of Inmarsat PLC., effective June 18, 2013. He spent from 1995 to 2012 with NDS Group plc, a digital pay-TV company, and served as Chairman and CEO from 2004 to 2012. He was Senior Vice President of Cisco from August 2012 to January 2014 and has previous senior management experience with IBM and Elron. Dr Peled has a BSc and MSc in Electrical Engineering and a PhD in Digital Signal Processing. In March 2013, Dr Peled was awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award by Digital TV Europe.

Bryan Carsberg

Sir Bryan Carsberg is Independent Non-Executive Director of Inmarsat plc, since June 22, 2005. He is a Chartered Accountant. He spent eight years as Director General of the Telecommunications (head of Oftel), and then served as Director General of Fair Trading and Secretary General of the International Accounting Standards Board. He was previously Chairman of the Council of Loughborough University, a Non-Executive Director of Cable and Wireless Communications plc, RM plc and a non-executive Chairman of MLL Telecom Limited. He was knighted in January 1989.

Stephen Davidson

Mr. Stephen James Davidson is Independent Non-Executive Director of Inmarsat plc, since June 22, 2005. He was Global Head of Media and Telecoms Investment Banking and subsequently Vice Chairman of Investment Banking at West LB Panmure. His previous career has included various senior positions in investment banking. He was Finance Director, then Chief Executive Officer of Telewest Communications plc and has been Chairman of the Cable Communications Association.

Kathleen Flaherty

Ms. Kathleen R. Flaherty is Independent Non-Executive Director of Inmarsat plc, since May 9, 2006. She served on the Board of a number of public companies including Marconi Corporation plc, Telent plc and CMS Energy Corporation. She was President and Chief Operating Officer of Winstar International. Her previous career has included senior roles as Chief Marketing Officer with AT&T and other senior roles with BT and MCI Communications Inc. Kathleen was a non-executive director of GenTek Inc until October 2009 and Hibu plc until March 2014. Kathleen holds a PhD in Industrial Engineering and Management Sciences from Northwestern University, Illinois.

Janice Obuchowski

Amb. Janice I. Obuchowski is Independent Non-Executive Director of Inmarsat plc, since May 5, 2009. She held several senior positions both in the U.S. government and in the private sector. She was formerly Head of Delegation and U.S. Ambassador to the World Radiocommunications Conference, Assistant Secretary for Communications and information at the Department of Commerce and Senior Advisor to the Chairman at the Federal Communications Commission in the U.S.
