W. Allen Reed |
Mr. W. Allen Reed has been appointed as Non-Executive Chairman of the Board of Legg Mason, Inc., effective October 1, 2012. He has been a director of Legg Mason since 2006. He previously served as Chairman, President and CEO of General Motors Asset Management Corporation and Chairman and CEO of General Motors Trust Bank, N.A. Mr. Reed has more than 35 years of experience in the asset management industry, having served as the financial officer responsible for employee benefit fund investments at General Motors, Delta Air Lines and Hughes Electronics. |
Joseph Sullivan |
Mr. Joseph A. Sullivan is the President, Chief Executive Officer, Director Legg Mason, Inc. Before being appointed as President and Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Sullivan served as Interim Chief Executive Officer of the Company from October 1, 2012 to present. Prior to that, Mr. Sullivan oversaw the global distribution operations of the Company. He was elected Senior Executive Vice President of the Company in September 2008 and until January 2011 was responsible for overseeing administrative functions as Chief Administrative Officer. From December 2005 to September 2008, he was responsible for overseeing the fixed income capital markets operations of Stifel Nicolaus, a broker-dealer. From 1993 to December 2005, he oversaw the fixed income capital markets operations of Legg Mason Wood Walker, the Company's broker-dealer subsidiary that was sold in December 2005. Mr. Peter H. Nachtwey is Chief Financial Officer, Senior Executive Vice President of Legg Mason Inc., since January 2011. From July 2007 through December 2010, Mr. Nachtwey served as Chief Financial Officer of The Carlyle Group, an alternative investment management firm, where he had responsibility for all of the financial and a number of the operational functions at the firm. Mr. Jeffrey A. Nattans is an Executive Vice President of Legg Mason Inc. He was elected Senior Vice President of Legg Mason in March 2009 and Executive Vice President in July 2009, previously was responsible for overseeing Specialized Asset Managers and oversees acquisition and business development activities. Mr. Nattans has been in corporate strategy, strategic initiatives, including acquisitions and financings, and the development of Legg Mason's international equity asset management businesses since joining the Company in 2006. Jennifer Murphy |
Ms. Jennifer Murphy has been appointed as Chief Administrative Officer of Legg Mason Inc., effective April 2, 2013. She joined the firm in 1986, when she was hired as a Securities Analyst. Jennifer has worked for Legg Mason for over two decades and has had diverse business and investment roles for Legg Mason Capital Management, most recently as President and CEO, and previously, serving as CFO, manager of LMCM’s research team, risk management and new product initiatives. Since 1999, Jennifer has been a Director of the Legg Mason Opportunity Trust. In addition, from 1995-1998, Jennifer worked directly for Raymond (Chip) Mason at Legg Mason, Inc. on strategic analysis and acquisitions. Jennifer left Legg Mason in 1990 to return to school in order to obtain her MBA and re- joined Legg Mason after working as a strategy consultant at Corporate Decisions, Inc. in Boston, Massachusetts. Jennifer earned a B.A. in Economics from Brown University and an M.B.A. with distinction from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania, where she was a Palmer Scholar. Jennifer received the CFA designation in 1989 and is a member of the Baltimore Security Analysts Society. |
Thomas Merchant |
Mr. Thomas Merchant has been appointed as General Counsel, Corporate Secretary of Legg Mason Inc., effective April 2, 2013. Tom joined Legg Mason in 1998 as Associate General Counsel. He progressed in his roles to include Vice President, General Counsel, and Corporate Secretary. Prior to joining Legg Mason, Tom was a Corporate Associate at Shearman & Sterling from 1993-1998. Mr. Dennis R. Beresford is an Independent Director of Legg Mason Inc., since September 2002. He is a professor at the University of Georgia, a position he has held since 1997. Mr. Dennis M. Kass has been appointed as the Independent Director of Legg Mason, Inc., effective April 1, 2013. Mr. Kass retired in 2012 as CEO of Jennison Associates, an asset management company wholly-owned by Prudential Financial, Inc., having served in this position since 2003. Previously, he had spent more than a decade with JP Morgan's Investment Management unit, culminating in the position of Vice Chairman of JP Morgan Fleming Asset Management. Mr. Kass served in the Reagan Administration from 1985 to 1987 as the Assistant Secretary of Labor for Pension and Welfare Benefits and was a Special Assistant to the President for Policy Development from 1981 to 1982. His early private sector roles included spending three years with Goldman Sachs as a Vice President in investment banking and pension advisory services.
