Name Description

Raymond Debbane

Mr. Raymond Debbane is an Independent Chairman of the Board of Lexicon Pharmaceuticals Inc. Mr. Debbane has been a director since August 2007 and became chairman of board of directors in February 2012. Mr. Debbane is president and chief executive officer of The Invus Group, LLC, which he founded in New York in 1985 as the exclusive investment advisor of Benelux-based Artal Group S.A. In 1999, Artal became the controlling shareholder of Weight Watchers International, Inc., for which Mr. Debbane serves as chairman of the board of directors. He also serves as chairman or director of a number of private companies in which Invus and Artal Group S.A. have invested. Before founding The Invus Group, Mr. Debbane was a manager in the Paris office of The Boston Consulting Group, Inc., where he did consulting work for a number of European and international companies. Mr. Debbane holds an M.B.A. from Stanford University, an M.S. in food science and technology from the University of California at Davis, and a B.S in agricultural sciences and agricultural engineering from American University of Beirut.

Arthur Sands

Dr. Arthur T. Sands is President, Chief Executive Officer, Director of Lexicon Pharmaceuticals Inc., since September 1995. At Lexicon, Dr. Sands pioneered the development of gene knockout technology for use in drug discovery. Before founding Lexicon, Dr. Sands served as an American Cancer Society postdoctoral fellow in the Department of Human and Molecular Genetics at Baylor College of Medicine. He received his B.A. in economics and political science from Yale University and his M.D. and Ph.D. from Baylor College of Medicine.

Jeffrey Wade

Mr. Jeffrey L. Wade is an Chief Financial Officer, Executive Vice President - Corporate Development of Lexicon Pharmaceuticals Inc., since May 2010. Mr. Wade served as executive vice president and general counsel from February 2000 until May 2010 and was senior vice president and chief financial officer from January 1999 to February 2000. From 1988 through December 1998, Mr. Wade was a corporate securities and finance attorney with the law firm of Andrews & Kurth L.L.P., for the last two years as a partner, where he represented companies in the biotechnology, information technology and energy industries. Mr. Wade is a member of the board of directors of the Texas Healthcare and Bioscience Institute. He received his B.A. and J.D. from the University of Texas.

Brian Zambrowicz

Dr. Brian P. Zambrowicz is an Executive Vice President, Chief Scientific Officer of Lexicon Pharmaceuticals Inc., since February 2007. Dr. Zambrowicz served as executive vice president of research from August 2002 until February 2007, senior vice president of genomics from February 2000 to August 2002, vice president of research from January 1998 to February 2000 and senior scientist from April 1996 to January 1998. From 1993 to April 1996, Dr. Zambrowicz served as a National Institutes of Health postdoctoral fellow at the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center in Seattle, Washington, where he studied gene trapping and gene targeting technology. Dr. Zambrowicz received his B.S. in biochemistry from the University of Wisconsin. He received his Ph.D. from the University of Washington, where he studied tissue-specific gene regulation using transgenic mice.

Pablo Lapuerta

Dr. Pablo Lapuerta is an Executive Vice President - Clinical Development, Chief Medical Officer of Lexicon Pharmaceuticals Inc., since February 2013. Previously served as senior vice president, clinical development and chief medical officer from March 2011 until February 2013. From 2009 through 2010, Dr. Lapuerta served as vice president at Bristol-Myers Squibb Company with responsibility for global development of an Alzheimer's disease drug candidate. From 2007 through 2009, Dr. Lapuerta was senior vice president, clinical strategy and chief medical officer of Cogentus Pharmaceuticals, Inc. and prior to that served in a variety of clinical development leadership roles at Bristol-Myers Squibb, where he worked for 11 years before joining Cogentus. He holds a B.A. in biology from Harvard College and an M.D. from Harvard Medical School.

Alan Main

Dr. Alan J. Main is an Executive Vice President - Pharmaceutical Research of Lexicon Pharmaceuticals Inc., since February 2007. He served as senior vice president, Lexicon Pharmaceuticals from July 2001 until February 2007. Dr. Main was president and chief executive officer of Coelacanth Corporation, in using proprietary chemistry technologies to rapidly discover new chemical entities for drug development, from January 2000 until acquisition of Coelacanth in July 2001. Dr. Main was formerly senior vice president, U.S. Research at Novartis Pharmaceuticals Corporation, where he worked for 20 years before joining Coelacanth. Dr. Main holds a B.S. from the University of Aberdeen, Scotland and a Ph.D. in organic chemistry from the University of Liverpool, England and completed postdoctoral studies at the Woodward Research Institute.

James Tessmer

Mr. James F. Tessmer is Vice President - Finance & Accounting of Lexicon Pharmaceuticals Inc. He has been vice president, finance and accounting since November 2007 and previously served as senior director of finance from February 2004 to November 2007 and director of finance from April 2001 to February 2004. From January 1997 to April 2001, Mr. Tessmer was assistant controller for Mariner Health Network, Inc. and prior to that served in a variety of financial and accounting management positions for HWC Distribution Corp. and American General Corporation. Mr. Tessmer is a certified public accountant and received his B.B.A. from the University of Wisconsin – Milwaukee and his M.B.A. from the University of Houston.

Philippe Amouyal

Mr. Philippe J. Amouyal is an Independent Director of Lexicon Pharmaceuticals Inc., since August 2007. He is a managing director of The Invus Group, LLC, a position he has held since 1999. Previously, Mr. Amouyal was a vice president and director of The Boston Consulting Group, Inc. in Boston, Massachusetts, where he coordinated the global technology and electronics practice through most of the 1990s. Mr. Amouyal is a director of Weight Watchers International, Inc., as well as a number of private companies in which Invus has invested. He holds an M.S. in engineering and a DEA in management from Ecole Centrale de Paris and was a research fellow at the Center for Policy Alternatives of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

Samuel Barker

Dr. Samuel L. Barker is an Independent Director of Lexicon Pharmaceuticals Inc. He has been a director since March 2000 and served as chairman of board of directors from March 2005 to February 2012. In March 2001, Dr. Barker co-founded Clearview Projects, Inc., a provider of partnering and transaction services to biopharmaceutical companies, and served as its president and chief executive officer from July 2003 until November 2004. Dr. Barker served in a series of leadership positions at Bristol-Myers Squibb Company until his retirement in 1999. His positions at Bristol-Myers Squibb included service as executive vice president, Worldwide Franchise Management and Strategy during 1998; president, United States Pharmaceuticals from 1992 to 1997; and president, Bristol-Myers Squibb Intercontinental Commercial Operations from 1990 to 1992. Prior to 1990, Dr. Barker held executive positions in research and development, manufacturing, finance, business development and sales and marketing at Squibb Pharmaceuticals. Dr. Barker currently serves as a director of Cadence Pharmaceuticals, Inc. and served as a director of AtheroGenics, Inc. from 2006 to 2009. Dr. Barker received his B.S. from Henderson State College, his M.S. from the University of Arkansas and his Ph.D. from Purdue University.

Robert Lefkowitz

Dr. Robert J. Lefkowitz is an Independent Director of Lexicon Pharmaceuticals Inc., since February 2001. He has been a consultant to company since March 2003. Dr. Lefkowitz is the James B. Duke Professor of Medicine, professor of biochemistry and a Howard Hughes Medical Institute investigator at Duke University Medical Center, where he has served on the faculty since 1973. Dr. Lefkowitz is a member of the National Academy of Sciences and has received more than 50 awards for his research, including the Shaw Prize, the Albany Medical Center Prize and the 2007 National Medal of Science presented to him by President George W. Bush. Dr. Lefkowitz received his B.A. from Columbia University and his M.D. from Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons.

Alan Nies

Dr. Alan S. Nies is an Independent Director of Lexicon Pharmaceuticals Inc., since November 2003. He has been chairman of medical advisory board since March 2003. From 1992 through September 2002, Dr. Nies served in a series of senior management positions at Merck & Co. Inc., most recently as senior vice president, clinical sciences from 1999 to 2002. Prior to joining Merck, Dr. Nies spent fifteen years as professor of medicine and pharmacology and head of the Division of Clinical Pharmacology at the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center. Dr. Nies holds a B.S. from Stanford University and an M.D. from Harvard Medical School.

Frank Palantoni

Mr. Frank P. Palantoni is an Independent Director of Lexicon Pharmaceuticals Inc., since November 2004. Mr. Palantoni is president of the pet and animal health division of Central Garden & Pet Company. Previously, he was a partner at P3 Capital Management LLC, an early stage consumer products equity fund. Mr. Palantoni served as chief executive officer of Prestige Brands Holding, Inc., from April to June 2006 and as a director from January to June 2006. From 1998 to 2004, Mr. Palantoni held a variety of senior management positions with Novartis AG, most recently as president and chief executive officer, worldwide of its Gerber Products Company, Novartis Infant and Baby Division. Mr. Palantoni also served as president and chief executive officer for North American operations of Novartis Consumer Health Division from 2000 to 2001. Prior to joining Novartis, he held a series of senior management positions with The Danone Group. He holds a B.S. from Tufts University and an M.B.A. from Columbia University.

Christopher Sobecki

Mr. Christopher J. Sobecki is an Independent Director of Lexicon Pharmaceuticals Inc., since August 2007. He is a managing director of The Invus Group, LLC, which he joined in 1989. Mr. Sobecki is a director of Weight Watchers International, Inc., as well as a number of private companies in which Invus has invested. Judith Swain

Dr. Judith L. Swain is an Independent Director of Lexicon Pharmaceuticals Inc., September 2007. Dr. Swain is the executive director of the Singapore Institute for Clinical Sciences within A*STAR, and the Lien Chow Professor of Medicine at the National University of Singapore. From 2005 to 2006, she was the dean for translational medicine at the University of California, San Diego. Dr. Swain served as chair of the Department of Medicine at Stanford University from 1997 to 2005, and previously served on the medical faculties of the University of Pennsylvania and Duke University. Dr. Swain is currently a director of the Burroughs Wellcome Fund and a member of the Council of the Institute of Medicine, National Academies of Science.
